First let me say what an honor it is to assume the duties and responsibilities of Commander for Post 2111! There are many people who have taught me so much over the years, and to them I offer my utmost gratitude and respect. I specifically want to thank and recognize past VFW Post 2111 All-State Commander, Dan Bauer for his commitment and dedication to our Post over the last two years! Well done Dan, and thank you for your continued service to our Post and Veterans! I have big shoes to fill! Getting down to “Brass Tacks”, I’m serving as Post Commander to better serve our Veterans and their families. My allegiance is to Post 2111, our 1100+ members and even those members who have yet to walk through our doors. My promise to the membership is that I will strive to lead by example and act with strength, wisdom and decisive courage to the best of my ability. To that end, I intend to hold myself, all officers, appointed officials and employees, to a higher standard of professionalism and personal accountability. Most of all I will listen and be responsive to you, our membership, because this is YOUR Post and everyone should have a voice and an opportunity to get involved. I believe that we can and should honor the legacy of our Post, its past personalities, leadership and traditions. We also have an opportunity and an obligation to not only our existing members, but to our new and future members to understand that while built upon the past, our future and upward growth must remain unencumbered by that same past. I welcome fresh ideas, new faces and energy. If you’re willing to work and get involved, we’ll find a place for you! Let’s all work as one team to make our Post welcoming and fun, a place where we can all enjoy our shared veteran heritage and more importantly, continue to be a relevant organization for qualified Veterans and their families. We have a lot of work to do over the next 12 months, and I’m excited to see what we can and will accomplish when we work together. Remember, this is YOUR Post! If you’re a member who’s been away for a while, C’mon back! We need and want you! I invite all members to try and attend our monthly Post Meetings held the 3rd Thursday of every month. Let’s all get involved, get energized, and have some fun while doing good work. We can accomplish anything if we’re not concerned with “who gets July 2016 Auxiliary President’s Message Dear Sisters, Brothers, Comrades and Friends, I am back. After having a wonderful experience as District 1 President, I am home and it feels so good. Thank you for giving me the honor of being your Auxiliary President once more. Lupe Duggins Auxiliary President 619-977-8211 [email protected] Page 5 Bugle Newsletter Men’s Auxiliary President’s Message Hello Comrades, Sisters, and Men’s Auxiliary Members: Men’s Auxiliary President’s Message Cont. volunteer, we could use your assistance. In June, the Men’s Auxiliary unanimously voted to continue the discussion about joining the VFW Auxiliary Members, and the lack of attendance, and not having enough members for a quorum. The word on the street is that, at the upcoming VFW National Convention in July, there will be a ballot measure to disband the MAUX. I will provide more information as I get it, but it is highly likely this will move forward and become effective on January 1, 2017. As you may recall, last year the Ladies Auxiliary voted to allow eligible males to join their organization and they renamed their group the VFW Auxiliary. I encourage all members to begin enrolling in our Auxiliary, as the MAUX will no longer be accepting annual dues. Because it is a separate organization from the MAUX, everyone will be required to fill out a new application and provide proof of eligibility. The current annual fee is $34. Listed below are the Life Membership Fees which are expected to go up significantly in 2017, so buying a Life Membership now will save you a bunch of money. Life Membership Fees for AUXILIARY Thru age 20 $220 Age 56-60 Age 21-25 $210 Age 61-65 Age 26-30 $200 Age 66-70 Age 31-35 $190 Age 71-75 Age 36-40 $185 Age 76-80 Age 41-45 $175 Age 81-85 Age 46-50 $170 Age 86-89 Age 51-55 $160 Age 90 + July 2016 $150 $140 $130 $115 $95 $75 $60 $50 (Expected to go up significantly in 2017) It’s that time of year again, our 4th of July celebration. The Men’s Auxiliary is happy to announce donating $300 to the Post and to help raffle off a BBQ grill. The drawing will be held at the 4th of July celebration. You do not have to be present to win. Men’s Auxiliary also had the honor of donating chicken wings for the Passing of the Gavel. A friendly reminder, that the MAUX breakfast is held on the 1st Sunday of the month. Please come in and give it a try. The MAUX volunteers work hard to bring you the best food and service possible. If anyone would like to Thanks again to all the volunteers who help make Post 2111 a great place. It couldn’t be great without your support. Sincerely yours in honor and support, George Castro Jr. (President) [email protected] / Text contact: (619) 734-4342 Carlos Fernandez (Sr. Vice President) House Committee Report Dear Comrades, Sisters, Brothers and Friends, Well, here we are at the end of another VFW year. The House Committee wishes to say that it was a pleasure working with Commander Dan and his crew this past year. We look forward to another great year with Commander Brett and wish him and his corps of officers a wonderful year. Larry and Amie are doing well with the kitchen and business is picking up. Please stop down for a delicious Breakfast or Lunch! Please note the kitchen will be closed on Mondays for cleaning and restocking, but they are open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 2pm. Also don’t forget our Burgers and Beans on Saturdays. Thank you to all who have volunteered over the last year, and we hope you continue to volunteer. The Fourth of July Picnic is finalized and we look forward to seeing lots of you joining us for a fun day or Food, Friendship and Games. Tickets are $10 for Adults and $5 for Minors. We have some great raffle prizes this year. We have a nice Barbeque that was donated by the Men’s Auxiliary as well as a beautiful Patio Table and Chairs donated by our supporters at Dixieline. Thanks go out to Ted and his crew for this generous donation. One last thing, our sincere thanks to all who donated food and volunteered in the kitchen for Passing of the Gavel.
