Starts and finishes in Pitlochry
Caledonia, closed road 81miles around Highland
Perthshire Etape Caledonia is one of the UK’s
premier cycling sportives. Some 5,000 cyclists
of all abilities take part each year, riding the 81
mile closed road route. Cyclists register and get
their start times on Friday 6th May: 6pm to 9pm
and on Saturday 7th May: 9am to 6pm. The first
wave leaves Pitlochry at 6.30am on Sunday 8th
May. The route passes through Tummel, Kinloch
Rannoch and around Loch Rannoch before head-
ing to Fortingal to Dull, Weem (near Aberfeldy)
and back to Pitlochry!

A relaxed stroll for young and old to a recently
discovered viewpoint in the heart of Highland
Perthshire. Adults: £3.50, Children £2. Meet at
Craigvinean Car Park, 1 mile (1.6 km) north of
Dunkeld on the A9. Turn off the A9 at the sign
for The Hermitage. Turn immediately right and
follow the forest track up the hill to the Craigvinean car park at grid reference NO 008 419.

Atholl Highlanders Talk and Parade

The first of two days that make up the Atholl
Gathering weekend. The Atholl Highlanders’ talk
in the magnificent castle ballroom with the castle’s archivist and an Atholl Highlander explains
how the regiment was granted their colours
and the history and tradition behind the annual
parade. Duration: approximately 1 hour. Admis-
sion: £5. Followed by the parade an amazing
spectacle of Europe’s only private army, parading on the castle forecourt to the sound of the
pipes and drums. His Grace the Duke of Atholl
will undertake the annual inspection of his men
in front of the crowd. Parade admission £5.90

11am. Scottish Heavy events 12.30pm. The
Atholl Highlanders officially opening the Highland Games with a “March On” at 1.15pm, led
again by the skirl of their pipes and the deep,
sonorous booming of their drums. Heavyweight
strong men from around Scotland take centre
stage to battle it out in the Highland Games,
which includes traditional events such as tossing the caber, putting the shot and throwing
the hammer. Highland Games date back many
centuries, most of the events tracing their roots
back to ancient Scottish battle weapons & fighting techniques. Admission: Adults £7, Seniors
£5, Children 5-16 year £3. Under 5s FREE.
