Scout Own At Blair Atholl Castle
700 Satellite Campers joining around 1500 Scouts from right across the World
for the 35th World Scout Jamborette’s Scouts Own at Blair Castle. This is the
largest Scout Own ever held at the Blair Atholl Jamborettes. There is 70
years of history, since the first Jamborette took place in 1946 which makes
it the oldest continually held Jamborette in the world. Scotland Scouts and
Leaders are extremely proud to host such a huge international event, and give
our Scottish Scouts the chance to form friendships with Scouts from right
across the world and from all different backgrounds. The Scouts Own theme was
IMAGINE where one Scout from each Subcamp came with a letter and described
what it meant to them in their own language, with everyone led by a choir
singing Imagine by John Lennon.

Challenge of the White Cockade
The White Cockade was the badge worn by the followers of
Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) during
the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745-6. The Marquis of
Tullibardine, son of the 1st Duke of Atholl, carried the
Prince’s standard when he landed at Moidart and gathered the clans at
Glenfinnan. The White Cockade, which was worn by the Marquis, can
be seen in a display cabinet in Blair Castle. The Marquis’ brother, Lord
George Murray, was the General in charge of the Jacobite army.
All Scouts at Blair Atholl can win a Cockade badge by successfully
completing 12 Activities (all day activities count as two) and organising
and participating in two social activities in the evenings as approved by
your Subcamp Leader. In choosing your activities, you must select at
least one activity from each of the Activity Zones (Adventure, Basics,
Sports, Creative, and Treks and Tours).

Freckles:
Yay or nae? Our
survey says yay
24 out of 28 respondents
said they liked
freckles, and nobody had
any reaction worse than
ambivalence, and though
some may have been a
touch biased as 17 of
them were freckled
themselves. When asked
to define a freckle,
Blair’s favourite answer
was “a brown spot on yer
face”.
