HISP A CE NIC NT ER LEHIGH VALLEY HCLV ANNUAL REPORT 2014-2015 www.hclv.org Dear Friends, I am pleased to share the Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley’s (HCLV) Annual Report with you. 2015 was a year of great progress for our non-profit organization. HCLV is embarking on many initiatives that will continue to address the strengths and needs of those we serve. The Board of Directors is committed and excited to continue to communicate the importance of individual and business donations of time, money and talent to our organization. The HCLV Board of Directors is passionate and optimistic. Through an unpredictable economy the board remains resilient, creative and dedicated to the mission of HCLV. The achievements of 2015 were made possible by the commended leadership of Executive Director, Lorna Velazquez as well as the entire HCLV staff. They are dedicated to the world of nonprofit and their efforts are truly appreciated. Thank you to the numerous people who volunteered their time to work on key projects this year. Highly-skilled professionals donated service to assist in advancing HCLV and they contributed meaningful insight to our committees. We are extremely grateful to the growing list of partners. Many individuals, including organizations, foundations and businesses have supported us with grants and other monetary gifts. HCLV looks forward to building on our accomplishments as well as increasing our capacity to serve. Together we can make a difference. Heartfelt Thanks! Muchas Gracias! Mary S. Colon, HCLV Board President THE WINDOW LEADING HCLV TO THE FUTURE Marlene “Linny” Fowler has blessed the center with a building she donated to help us support this community. HCLV hopes to keep the spirit of Linny alive by transforming this building into a Center for Integrated Health. The Center for Integrated Health will provide a holistic approach to quality physical and mental health, and social services. This holistic approach will encourage individuals and our community to regain and maintain self-sufficiency. Moving forward, HCLV will reinvent itself through a detailed strategic plan that will become our roadmap for this journey. Linny’s donated building will become the vehicle that will allow the center to create social mobility for our community. This dream can become a reality through our excellent partnerships, supporting volunteers, donors, and alike. This model is an innovative approach to helping a community overcome systemic obstacles and create cohesion for resources and individual members. THANK YOU TO OUR 2014-’15 DONORS! HISP A ER he ated CE NIC NT 2014‘15 ANNUAL REPORT A FEW WORDS FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, LORNA VELAZQUEZ: d er we The Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley starts with individual needs in order to build the strongest community possible, and 2014-15 has been met with both great opportunities and important challenges. In order for HCLV to continue to enrich the lives of those who need support and our community at large, my Board members made the decision to use our challenges as a way to reinvent ourselves. She found a solution one day when she was walking and came across the Hispanic Center, where she now loves serving food, gardening, arts and crafts, and going on field trips. She feels useful when she’s at HCLV, and has said when she walks in, she can’t help but to smile. When Margarita finally found a small apartment, the rent was $700 monthly. Margarita explained that HCLV has been a constant support; with only receiving $749 monthly, the Center provided her with all the resources she needed to secure housing, pay her utilities and more. The food pantry at HCLV is yet another open door for Margarita to achieve independence and security. Most of all, the senior center has helped her emotionally and provided her with a second home.
