JDRF MINNDAKOTAS
AWARD OF EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP
Wade and Sue Kotula
We are humbled to be honored with the JDRF MinnDakotas Award of Excellence in Leadership for this year’s
16th annual Toast to Tomorrow gala. For over 5 years, we’ve been passionately engaged in this organiza on
because we believe that JDRF will find a cure for type one diabetes (T1D), a lifelong disease that 30,000 people
in the U.S. are diagnosed with each year. Since age 12, I (Wade) has been living with the challenges of T1D. We
believe that by suppor ng JDRF, there will be a day when our family no longer has to think about diabetes and
can abandon the worry of our 4-year old son and daughter being diagnosed with the same disease.
Though we’ve made a commitment to never let diabetes slow our family down, the daily balance can be
challenging. Life feels full with running a business and raising a family, but we’ve made our work with JDRF a
priority because we know their mission will benefit millions of others affected by this disease.
We’ve been proud of our family’s business, Northern Tool + Equipment, as they’ve risen to become one of
JDRF’s largest corporate partners. Our Burnsville-based company has grown from humble beginnings in a
garage in Eagan to a business that employs nearly 2,500 people and operates 85 stores in the United States,
a catalog and internet business, and more recently includes acquisi on of The Sportsman’s Guide and Golf
Warehouse. The company’s commitment to JDRF’s mission to cure diabetes allows us to do all that we can to
accelerate the progress of diabetes research.
We hope you’ll consider joining us in this important mission. Your support of this work will not only mean
a great deal to us, but it will change the lives of all of the children and adults living with T1D throughout the
world. We are so grateful for your considera on.
