WELCOME MR. GREG FEARDAY
ALUMNI UPDATES
St. Anthony is excited to welcome Mr. Greg Fearday as high school principal. Mr. Fearday
replaces Mr. Ron Niebrugge who resigned after 2 years as principal of St. Anthony High
School to start a private business.
Mr. Fearday comes to us from Omaha, NE, where he taught business at Millard South High
School. He brings 9 years of experience in education to his administrative role with St. Anthony High School. In 2000, he received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Quincy
University and returned to Quincy to obtain his master’s degree in educational administration in May 2002. From there, he received a master’s degree from University of Nebraska at Omaha in secondary education in June 2011. “Mr. Fearday brings the right combination of talent, experience, and vision to
lead our school and our community to a bright future,” states Fr. David Hoefler. “We are blessed to have had
a very good group of candidates for this position and are excited to have offered the position to Mr. Fearday.”
Mr. Fearday is originally from Sigel, IL, while his wife, Molly, is from Omaha, NE. They have three children – Lucy
(7), Will (5), and Michael (2). The Fearday family relocated to Effingham over the summer. “St. Anthony High
School has been nothing short of great over the years. We look forward to continuing this rich tradition. Moving to a new area can many times be a difficult process. However, the St. Anthony community has been extremely inviting and gracious over the past month for my family and in my new position. The past month has
reconfirmed my belief that St. Anthony is truly special and a great place for both my family and career,”
states Mr. Fearday.

St. Anthony's 1955 baseball team had an incredible combined fall and spring record of 19-1. Several members went on to play at the college and professional levels. You can still find a few of the ‘55 team players at
many of the St. Anthony baseball games and other sporting events as they continue to follow the Bulldogs
faithfully. Some of them had family members that played on this year’s SAHS Boys State Championship team.
Congratulations to the 1955 SAHS Baseball team. You paved the way for a strong tradition of baseball at St.
Anthony!

With the start of the school year, St. Anthony High School is blessed
with the addition of Fr. Brian Alford as chaplain. Fr. Alford is currently one of our parochial vicars and part of the pastoral team led
by Fr. David Hoefler. The pastoral team oversees the parishes of St.
Mary’s of Shumway, Sacred Heart, and St. Anthony.
Fr. Alford joined the pastoral team in July of 2011 immediately following his ordination to the priesthood. Now only a year later
Bishop Thomas John Paprocki has appointed Fr. Alford to the responsibility of high school chaplain in addition to his duties as parochial vicar.
As chaplain, Fr. Alford will oversee the curriculum of the theology classes which currently includes the implementation of recommended coursework from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). Fr.
Alford will also be the religion instructor for the junior class as well as have a presence in the senior class.
Beyond the classroom, Fr. Alford’s goals are to build upon the Catholic identity of the school. In addition to
the current weekly Mass at church, Fr. Alford plans to provide weekly Mass in the high school chapel, continue
the First Friday Faith Club, and look for other opportunities for students to live out their faith – such as offering
reconciliation in school on a regular basis.
“I want our Catholic identity to not be a label but to be something we live,” states Fr. Alford. “I am very excited for the opportunity to help the students grow in their faith. Creating this position in the high school not
only shows the commitment of Fr. Hoefler and Bishop Paprocki to our school but to the faith of our high school
community.” Welcome aboard Fr. Alford!
ST. ANTHONY GRADE SCHOOL WELCOMES NEW PRINCIPAL
St. Anthony also welcomes Mrs. Brandi Borries as the new grade school principal beginning this fall. Mrs. Borries replaces Mrs. Mary Lynn Byers (1967) who retired after 25 years
as principal of St. Anthony Grade School.
Mrs. Borries previously held the position of Special Education and Response to Intervention Program Coordinator with North Clay School District. She brings 10 years of experience in education with her most recent two years in an administrative role.
We are thrilled to have Mrs. Borries at the grade school and look forward to an exciting school year!
