Busky Wood - SOLD, North Yorkshire - Almost 6
Busky Wood - SOLD, North Yorkshire - Almost 6 acres, £45,000 Busky Wood is located in the north eastern corner of a large forested area known as Brafferton Spring Wood. Accessed from West Moor Road, to the south, a good quality track runs from the main gateway to the western boundary. The wood has its own ride-stop and is marked with a sign. Two contrasting character areas of roughly equal proportions make this a fascinating wood. To the north pine, birch and spruce can be found, typically around 40 years old but there are some older trees around the field boundaries. The southern section was felled approximately five years ago: this area is open and sunny with good cover for wildlife provided by young, planted oak trees and excellent natural regeneration. Mammal, bird and insect life thrives in the wood with deer, buzzards and game birds frequently sighted. Lots more can be observed if one sits quietly for a while. From the ride-stop entrance, a path leads east to a clearing; this path may be accessed by vehicles in good weather. This is one of several spaces within the wood which could be a useful base for woodland operations or a campsite, and the ground is level throughout. You will find two paths adjoining the clearing - these are the beginning and end of a circular route. If you take the right-hand one of the two, a rustic bench is reached before passing out of the more mature woodland into the light southern section. The nearby village of Brafferton takes its name from a ford across the Swale, being originally Broad-Ford-Town. The village has now become almost one with its neighbour Helperby and between them they host four public houses, a shadow of the former 14 hostelries once located here. This extraordinary number was likely to have been due to the location of the villages at what was the end of the navigable section of the Swale and a number of pack horse routes. There's more history of Brafferton here. The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of adjoining woodlands and meadows.
