Nontraditional Courses (I.E., courses taught via the internet, etc.)
– The instructor and student have ongoing access AND interaction with one another for
purposes of teaching, evaluating and providing assistance to the student throughout the
duration of the course
– The student’s work is available for evaluation and validation
– Evaluation of the student’s work is conducted by the appropriate academic authorities
– The course includes a defined time period for completion
– The course is acceptable for any student and is placed on the high school transcript
– Be cautious as not ALL online providers are NCAA approved. If you question something it is
best to ask the NCAA Compliance Office (see NCAA article, Slide 22). Check Eligibility Center for
providers course list.
•
Special Consideration/Benefits
– Grade changes for PSA (Potential Student Athletes) that were not earned and consistent with
school policy is a big NO!
– When allowing a student to complete extra credit or assignments that he or she missed must
be a uniform practice. In other words, the PSA cannot be given extra time that usually isn’t
afforded to anyone else
•
Credit Recovery
– PSA may not take any form of credit recovery where students are allowed to test out of certain
parts of the course through a proficiency exam. PSA must retake the ENTIRE course. For
example Diploma Lab at Creekside High School will not work for remediation for a PSA.
• PSA is permitted to use all core courses
completed from his/her 9th grade year until
the time of high school graduation
• Earn a 2.0 GPA or better in your core courses
• Earn a combined SAT score of 820 (CR, M) or
an ACT sum score of 68 (CR, M, S, E)
