Brian Cannone’s
Championships
Letter from the Producer
Dear Athletes, Sponsors, and Fans,
First off, I would like to thank the athletes who
entered the 13th Annual Fitness Atlantic
Championships. This event is entirely about the
athletes and the commitment to their hard work
and effort. The process of getting into competition
condition with your physique takes months of
dedication, determination and focus. I do my best in
trying to provide the best experience in which you
can showcase your efforts and have an experience
that you are happy to be involved regardless of
placement.
My approach and feelings about this event is
that it is not only a sporting event but more of a way
to motivate yourself and others to achieve results
of loosing body-fat along with improving overall
health.
By competing in natural fitness events you push
yourself to be in your best possible shape of your
life. In fact, I truly believe that it is more about the
results you gain then the trophy you may take
home with you.
This is an event that the contestants can’t loose

for it is their physique that is the trophy and the
process of getting into great shape that is the
reward.
Secondly, I would like to give all of the
participating sponsors my heartfelt thanks
for being part of the exposition and your gift
donations. Our event was a huge success, in part
due to your help. The goodie swag bags were
a hot item with your gifts. Thank you for your
generosity and your quality products!
I would like to thank the families, friends and
fans that show up each and every year to fill the
seats. We do our best to produce an event that
keeps you entertained from the opening of the
curtain to the award presentation ceremony. The
focus of the event is to run on schedule and be
fun for everyone.
And I cannot forget my wonderful event staff
which are incredible friends and the judges,
photographers, and everyone that is involved in
making this show such a success each and every
year.
I look forward to seeing everyone again next
season.
Sincerely,
Brian Cannone

Palace Theatre went out of business in 2004
and we moved the show to East Haven
High School Performing Arts Center
which is a beautiful modern school
for 7 years (1998-2010) with a much
larger lobby for exhibitors, plenty of free
parking. Now in 2011 Fitness Atlantic
took a giant step forward by moving to
Connecticut’s largest theatre by moving
to the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford,
Connecticut.
The Oakdale is a HUGE venue with
nearly 5,000 seats and a very large dome
area for the Expo. The event was a large
undertaking and took a year of planning and
stepping it up even had Tony Horton the

to see competitors giving each other

This year’s event
had Tony Horton the
creator of one of the
best selling workout
programs P90X.
Brian Cannone
flew Tony Horton into Connecticut for a sold-out
workout session of 300 people in the Oakdale
Dome.
Tony performed a workout session, gave his
9 Laws of Fitness seminar and took photos and
signed autographs for all in attendance.
The event was filled with energy and
excitement!
Tony Horton was one of the fitness trainers to
make an extreme workout fun. Tony has gained
the respect of men and women from beginners to
advanced with his workout programs.
“Tony Horton is someone in the fitness industry
I look up to for his energy, personality, drive, and

recap A day at the fitness atlantic championships
Hello,
My name is Fleur De Kine.
I competed in figure at the 2011
Fitness Atlantic for the WBFF.
I placed 2nd in Figure Tall and this
is my recap of the weekend:
Wow. What a wonderful weekend! It was
an incredible experience that I am incredibly
thankful for. If there is one word that can
sum up competing in the WBFF in the Fitness
Atlantic, it is “Opportunity.” It was everywherefrom the moment we walked in the venue to the
moment they lowered the curtain.
Friday
When we got to check in it was quick and
efficient. Everyone was professional and the
best part is no one felt harried. This was great
because it helps to calm me down when you
can tell that everyone involved is excited to be
there and enjoying themselves. At check-in
we were presented with our competitor goodie
bags. Wow. Hands down awesome! Inside
were T-Shirts, supplements, magazines, shaker
bottles, water bottles, and cosmetics. It also
turned out that the bag is the perfect size to
carry my meals too!
After registration we were able to mingle while
we waited for our rehearsal for the opening
number. This was a fun way for the audience
to first get a taste of a WBFF show and see all
of us athletes on the stage for the first time in a
high energy number. After the rehersal I got to
meet a few competitors and catch glimpses of
WBFF athletes Diana Rose Chaloux and Micah
Lacerte who were both very nice and incredibly
down to earth and I introduced myself to Alison
Dillet who was hands on during rehersal and
really quite nice! It was refreshing to have the
head of an organization so accessible and
positive.

Saturday
The next
morning my
division (figure)
had to be at the
venue at 9am.
When I got
to the venue
it was already packed. People were lined up
for the events at the expo. Tony Horton was
giving a P90x seminar and there were Zumba
demonstrations happening. The whole place
had an amazing energy. Luckily, another
competitor saw me and helped me through
the crowd and to backstage. Backstage was
absolutely awesome. They had everything.
One thing I can say is that the staff was happy
and really enjoying themselves and us athletes
were constantly being checked on and taken
care of. Oh, and can I mention the best part?
The dressing room was warm and there were
mirrors everywhere. There were even versions
of craft services table on each floor with healthy

snacks and water. All very thoughtful additions
to the backstage experience.
Opportunities were all around us as well.
G. Gregory Geiger was taking candid pics,
Imirage Lhgfx and Allan Barry were shooting
outside the dressing rooms, America’s Next
Great Trainer and FTNS Radio were holding
interviews, Elite Bronzing was making sure
that everyone would look their best under the
lights... it was great. The opportunity to network
was incredible and I definitely took advantage of
it. I hope to be working with many of the people
I met in the future.
Sunday Morning
I had the wonderful opportunity to shoot with the
talented GW Burns. The shoot was informative
and it was yet another opportunity presented by
the Fitness Atlantic that i am incredibly thankful
for. My pictures came out great and they are
yet another tool I can use in marketing myself.
Which was the biggest benefit I had from being
a part of the show. Opportunities were available
at every instance. It was up to us to seize them.
It’s rare that events like this come along that
make it so easy to network. A person has to
take advantage and I am thankful for it.
The show overall
was amazing. I
felt very respected
as an athlete and
treated incredibly
well. They put out
a lot of effort to
make us feel as
comfortable as
possible. The crew
wasn’t running
Night Show
Backstage for the night show was more relaxed around hectic,
everything ran
so we did some goofing off. Lots of joking

As soon as we got there they let us walk the
stage and we had our competitors meeting.
Then prejudging started. There were a little over
40 figure girls competing. It was quick yet they
really took their time judging. It felt like we were
out there forever, which is great! I felt totally
confident I had a complete package so I was
super happy when I got off stage.

The Proposal
Sean LARSON
& Tiffany TILLINGER
2010 Overall Bikini Fitness Atlantic Champion
As
I stood on the stage of
the Oakdale Theater in
Wallingford, Connecticut
and gazed outward
towards the empty seats I thought of the
Fitness Atlantic’s meager beginnings. The show
that used to house hundreds in attendance
now has the ability to exceed thousands
of spectators. I reminded the president of
the Fitness Atlantic, Brian Cannone of the
run down Palace Theater in New Haven,
Connecticut. The Fitness Atlantic’s first
venue. I reminisced about my beginnings as a
competitive body builder in April of 2000 trying
to warm up under a tarp in 40-degree weather
while standing in a puddle of water from the
G.W. Burns

torrential rain. Walking from stage right to left
at the Oakdale Theater as a man who has
been with the Fitness Atlantic from 1999 as a
spectator and who would ultimately become
an Overall Champion in 2005. I considered my
past and realized my future. The past is what
brings me back to the Fitness Atlantic Show.
The production seems to outdo itself year after
year. Through those years of competing, now
I’m contributing in a more subjective role as
judge and jury for these competitors. It brings
you back. It brings you home. I’ll always be
remembered for gracing Brian Cannone’s
Stage and taking it all home becoming a
Professional in 2005. For that I will always
have a future here with the production, but my

future was back at the hotel. Tiffany Amber
Tillinger was conducting business in our hotel
room at the Four Points in Meriden. Tiffany is
a licensed cosmetologist and MAC make-up
professional. Since 4:00 am the women were
in and out of our room with Tiffany helping
each competitor with their hair and make-up
preparation. A professional in her own right
Tiffany is the First-Lady of the Fitness Atlantic.
She had won the overall in the Bikini division
at the Fitness Atlantic show in 2010 becoming
the first professional in the WBFF and was
sponsored to compete at the WBFF World
Championships in Toronto, Canada. She had
ultimately placed First Runner Up at the show.
She is my future. Displaying her passion
through all the women in attendance back at
the Four Points. Tiffany will ultimately become
my future wife.
I had chosen the Fitness Atlantic weekend
as the proposal date because it is one of the
busiest weekends out of the year. If you keep
the mind occupied then the world around you
seems to fade. She is my world. This is our
weekend. The fitness industry is our industry.
The timing was perfect. When people learn
about the engagement of Tiffany and I, most
of the reactions are similar. “It’s about time!” It
was about time. Time and money. Lately I have
had more time than I have had money. Since
purchasing a home with Tiffany in 2008 I have
explored the fiscal responsibilities of home
ownership and in turn had the opportunity
to save the money needed for that precious
engagement ring. I had seized an opportunity
to travel to New York with one of my bosses
from Mohegan Sun, Joe Reale. There was
no better time to travel under the radar than
www.fitnessatlantic.com/stage-ready
the Monday before the Fitness Atlantic Show,
which was April 11. Tiffany and her assistant
Mallory Brisson are licensed cosmetologists
and MAC make-up professionals. To continue
their education being MAC professionals
they were attending a MAC make-up class to
expand their knowledge on techniques and
how to apply them using the product. I had
to seize that moment. I advised Joe of the
opportunity and he thought it was perfect.
We will go to New York, hit the Diamond
District, grab the ring, and be home before
she knows we were there. While cruising for
parking in Manhattan I called Tiffany like I do
every day when I am driving to work. Tiffany
said that they were running late to the class
and were literally running down 5th Avenue.
Unbeknownst to her, Joe and I were on 5th

Avenue also, still looking for parking. The
difference was that she was over twenty
blocks away, out of harms reach. With the
women attending the two hour seminar, Joe
took me to The Diamond District on 47th
Street to a Shop called Diamonds U.S.A. Joe
has known the owners for quite some time
and has assured me of the best quality ring
for the best price. I had met Gary and his wife
Mila the owners of Diamonds U.S.A and they
were very excited that I was getting engaged.
They make you feel comfortable and very
welcomed like it was their home. Previously
I had educated myself with the style of ring
Tiffany wanted and the cuts and clarity of
diamond I was looking for. I had printed out
a picture of the setting and showed Mila.
Ironically she had the same exact setting
out for some reason, so it was meant to be.
I took my time observing each diamond Mila
presented and found a beautiful diamond
that fits the description of my future wife...

and I was worried what would happen if I got
home after Tiffany. I was in street clothes and
not in my suit for work. I had texted Tiffany
as to where she was and low and behold she
was one exit ahead of Joe and me. I wasn’t
going to make it home before Tiffany and I had
crafted a story that my arm was hurting and I
was leaving work early. I had also stated that I
was going grocery shopping after I got out and
asked what we needed for proteins. Walking
into the house Tiffany asked me what took me
so long? I told her that I came home, changed
my clothes, THEN... I went grocery shopping.
She thought, “Oh... Okay,” then quickly
discussed her trip to the Big City. All problems
and suspicions were averted… MISSION
ACCOMPLISHED!!! Now with the ring burning
a hole in my head there is the question of
“when” and “where”. A lot of emotions cloud
your mind when faced with the task of asking
a woman to marry you. I was paranoid about
leaving the ring anywhere for the fear of
her finding it accidentally. The words of Joe
Reale constantly rang in my head “DON’T
LEAVE THE RING!” With those words I did
exactly what he said given the value of the
ring and the fear of it getting lost or stolen.
I had kept it in a hidden compartment in my
Toyota Tacoma. With the ring safely stored it
still left those two questions to be answered.
There was no one better to answer those two
questions than one G.W. Burns.
G.W. Burns is an amazing photographer.
Tiffany has learned of Greg Burns’ brilliance
while competing at the WBFF World
Championships in Toronto, Canada. His
photos caught Tiffany’s eye, because of his
artistic vision in which he produces very

unique pictures with the fitness models that
he works with. Tiffany had learned that G.W.
was attending the Fitness Atlantic show and
desperately wanted to work with the famed
photographer. They had communicated
through emails and social networks and both
wanted to collaborate at some point during
the weekend. Tiffany had asked her aunt Tami
who works for Foxwoods Casino, if she could
reserve a luxurious
villa in the Grand
Pequot Hotel for
the photo shoot.

an actual proposal before. They had settled
on meeting the Thursday before the Fitness
Atlantic show, but there was a huge delay
in the production. Greg Burns’ lighting was
accidentally shipped to Bogota, Columbia.
With Greg’s lights in another country we
had agreed to reschedule for Sunday, which
in reality works a lot better for all of us
considering we were all working the show that
Saturday. Tiffany and I had met Greg Burns in
the lobby of the hotel to get better acquainted
and to discuss the photo shoot as well as the
fitness industry. While describing his artistry
in print, Greg brought to Tiffany’s attention
www.fitnessatlantic.com/stage-ready
that he would love to incorporate me in the
backdrop of the final formal look of the shoot.
With a simple discussion the seed was planted
and the proposal was three days away from
bloom.
With the Fitness Atlantic show a
success and in the record books April 16
at the Oakdale more than lived up to it’s
expectations, but our fitness weekend wasn’t
over. Sunday April 17, 2011 Tiffany and
I were in for the experience of a Lifetime
together. Tiffany and I arrived at the Grand
Pequot Hotel at Foxwoods around 2:00pm.
Arriving somewhat later was G.W. Burns. The
photographer had many photo sessions
booked throughout the weekend and
always gives his clients the time and
special attention they disserve, hence the
delay. In the mean time Tiffany and I sat in
the lobby of the Grand Pequot and had an
in-depth conversation about the success of
the entire weekend. The hair preparation
and make-up application that Tiffany
and her assistant Mallory completed
yielded a handful of Top 5 athletes and
one competitor receiving her professional
status. You could tell she was proud of
all of the women that she had worked
with. Our conversation quickly developed
into our relationship and how we truly
were meant to be together and how we
make each other successful and better as
people. What are the odds that we would
end up together and Tiffany becoming an
Overall Champion at the Fitness Atlantic
2010, the same show that I, Sean Larson
won an Overall Championship five years
prior in 2005? Hearing those words from

Tiffany in the lobby was assuring of her
commitment, but little did she know I had the
truest expression of my love in the pocket
of my warm-ups. With the conclusion of our

I was about to pour onto my best friend. I
was ready. It was finally about time. G.W.
Burns arrived an hour later from the Meridan
Four Points Hotel to the Grand Pequot Hotel.
I had helped him with his equipment and
we checked in to the Villa for the four-hour
photo session. Unbeknownst to me Greg
informed Foxwoods of the proposal and the
butlers went the extra mile and catered the
photo shoot with fruits, cheeses, crackers,
and drinks. A tremendous service to enhance
the experience. Tiffany and Greg explored
many looks during the photo session. Her
beauty and personality shined through with
every snap of G.W. Burns’ lens. For the most
part during the session, I was constructing
an on-line training program for one of my
clients of Personal Performance LLC.
Patiently I was waiting for my role to take
place all while playing Tiffany’s play lists on
I-tunes. The looks that they have achieved
working together were extremely sexy and
sophisticated. Nothing less than amazing.
With the session winding down Greg Burns
turned to me and said, “Ok young man, get
dressed.” The nerves hit me instantaneously.
The theme of the shoot was a formal look
geared towards our arrival to the casino. With
Tiffany in her gown and me in my suit, G.W.
informed us of the scenario. “Sean and Tiffany
you both have come here to Foxwoods for the
weekend. Sean has a gambling problem. He
has been gambling for five hours. You both

were supposed to have dinner three hours
ago. Tiffany, kick off your shoes and get on the
bed. You are furious at this point. Sean arrives
three hours late a beaten man. He has lost all
of your money and you have to cut your stay
short.” That was the look and emotion he was
trying to establish. Greg quickly glances at
Tiffany and says, “You know what? This shot
needs a little more bling! Tiffany do you have
any rings or jewelry you can wear?” That was
MY cue. Tiffany had told me to retrieve her ring
that was in her jewelry case. The ring that I
would return with symbolizes my true love for
this unbelievable woman. With Tiffany on the

the bedroom and played a song Tiffany and
I often listened to. The song is called, “Marry
Me” by Train. It is a song
that is played from the heart
and speaks volumes without
having to increase any of
the decibels. I let the guitar
intro play as I slowly take the
corner and walk towards my
future wife. She looks into
my eyes and notices tears
forming. She could sense
that I wasn’t just getting into
my character. There was
something more: A little
black box. Inside that box
was my expression of the
Love and Respect I had for
my best friend Tiffany Amber
Tillinger. I had opened the box
and knelt by her bedside. I told
her, “Tiffany... We were meant
to be together… You are my
best friend and I love you sooo
much... Will you marry Me?”
The tears were cascading off
of our cheeks as the emotions
filled the bedroom, all while the event
was being captured by G.W. Burns. She cried,
“yes!” as Greg had to leave the room. He too
fell prey to the emotion and love we have for
each other. It was a monumental occasion and
I am proud to say that for our lifetime together
we will always have our moment captured in
print for all of eternity. The engagement ring I
had given Tiffany symbolizes the circle of life.
Within that circle Tiffany and I merge together
my fiancé and she deserves the best of both
of our worlds. Including the best proposal.
Thank you G.W. Burns. I am forever in debt to
you. Without the magic of your lens we would
have never have brought to life the proposal in
such a monumental fashion.
Thank you G.W. Burns for capturing the
“Beginning of Forever”.

Local woman gets into competition
By Farrah Duffany
WALLINGFORD - Standing behind a black curtain amid
a line of fit women dressed in rhinestone bikinis and
five-inch heels, Jennifer Clark peered out into a sea of
people with their eyes glued on the iridescent stage.
Then the announcer suddenly said over the microphone:
“Up next, competitor number 39,
Jennifer Janet Clark.”
W
ith a hesitant first step and a wave
of reassurance from the stage
crew, she confidently strutted
toward center stage of the Oakdale Theater.
The crowd cheered. She’d achieved her goal
after a year of hard work. Jennifer Clark, of
Wallingford, was finally a competitor in her first
fitness competition at the age of 41.
While sitting in the audience at a Fitness
Atlantic competition last year, Clark, a single
www.fitnessatlantic.com/stage-ready
mother of two and a full-time math professor,
realized that she wanted to be on stage
competing one day. Clark has a passion for
fitness and has been exercising for 20 years.
She decided last year to make her goal to
compete in the April competition a priority while
letting everything else fall into place.
“If you really want something you will make it
happen, and that’s the bottom line,” Clark said.
Clark’s goal to be in a figure competition

was a difficult challenge. She needed
to learn to juggle caring for her two
children, Kenny, 7 and Jillian, 9, and
her job as a professor at Middlesex
Community College, all while training for
her first fitness competition.
“It takes a lot of determination,
consistency and perseverance to remain
on track for figure competition training,”
Clark said. “After work you’ll find me
running from work into the car and I’ve
got my gym bag in my car ready to go.
Then I stop at the nearest gym on my
way home and work out and I’m looking
at the clock saying ‘okay the school bus

“Fitness Atlantic is open to anyone interested Clark had the potential. Gartner began training
Clark about six months prior to the April 16

competition. When Clark came to Gartner she

“What we did was start to put on some size,”
The figure division is muscular female

down and started cutting down the
foods and adding more cardio. We
started doing four to five days of
cardio a week.”
Gartner explained how the diet
was a guessing game because it
was Clark’s first fitness show. It was
all about finding the right diet and
what worked for Clark. What works
for one person may not work for
another, Gartner said.
“There’s no cookie cutter diet for
everybody,” Gartner said.
In order to be organized each
week, Clark prepared her meals on
Sundays for the week ahead. It was
important for Clark to make the time
to prepare foods in her diet because
she was constantly busy. She cooked
steak, salmon and a large pot of
asparagus for her lunches. Clark
made sure she had the right foods
and avoided the foods her children
like to munch on.
“If you know you’re going to be on
stage in a bikini you will put the Oreo
down,” Clark said, with a laugh.
Clark’s workouts consisted of 30
to 45 minutes of weight training every
day. Each day, Clark would target a different
part of the body in order to give the other
muscles rest. Leg workouts were on Tuesdays
and Saturdays. Clark also trained her back,
arms, and other parts of the body two days a
week, and allowed for rest days each week.
Friday, the day before the competition,
Clark had some time to reflect on her fitness
journey and why she wanted to compete in

the first place.
“I reached a point where I wasn’t happy with
myself and I was focusing all my attention on
the kids, work and home,” Clark said. “I forgot
about myself.”
Clark’s friends helped motivate her through
the year of training. Fee Adams, a longtime
friend and personal trainer at the Wallingford
YMCA, was one of them.
“She really motivated me,” Clark said.

“When you see other fit working moms, it
inspires you that you can do it too.”
On the day of the competition, Clark was
prepped and ready to go. She had with
her a $300 custom-made lavender-colored
rhinestone bikini, five-inch heels required for
the show, and a bottle of red wine -- one of
Gartner’s tips to enhance vascularity in the
muscles for a better presentation on stage.
Clark was up against 20 women in the
masters figure division and 15 women in the
medium figure. Masters figure is for women 35
and older. Medium figure is for women 5-foot-2
to 5-foot-5.
As Clark walked toward center stage,
she knew her two children, Gartner, family
members, and friends were in the crowd to
cheer her on. Her two children carried posters
they decorated that said, “Go super mom, go,
go, go!”
The judges look for muscle tone, body lines,
grace and presentation along with wardrobe
choices. Fifty percent of the score is based
on symmetry, which is the four quarter turns
competitors have to do on stage posing for
every side of the body (front, back, right side,
left side). The other 50 percent of the score
comes from group comparisons.
Clark knew going into the competition
that she would be happy no matter what the
outcome was.
“At 41, I’m in the best shape of my life, so
I feel like I have already won,” said Clark, a
Lyman Hall High School graduate.
With the motivation, encouragement and
support from friends and family, Clark was able
to fit her goal in with her schedule, and her
children’s schedule of afterschool activities.
Although Clark didn’t place in the top five,
www.fitnessatlantic.com/stage-ready
she placed eighth of 20 in masters figure and
ninth in open figure.
“I am happy especially since I went straight
to a big show my first time out,” Clark said. “I
will train and do another next year.”
Clark’s children were happy to see their
mom on stage and, even if she didn’t gain the
top spot, she is still their supermom.
“My mom did a good job,” said Jillian Clark.

When it comes to contests and awards
there is one award which is very close to my heart and that
is the “Crowd Favorite” award.
Fitness Atlantic is know for the great attendance from a
cheering crowd and the event has sold-out for the past six
years – this is an event in which the audience is catered to
and the show is run as a real production. From when the
curtain opens until it closes the show is non-stop action and
upbeat event that spectators love to see each year!
As someone who won a crowd favorite award I can
personally say this was one of the highlights of my career.

About the Producer
IN THE
BEGINNING
I remember I had just turn 21-years-old
for my first competition. I remember when I started
training, how motivated and nervous I was and how I
felt but I knew that there are only two options regarding
my commitment. I was either in or out. There’s no such
thing as a life in-between. At 12 weeks out from the
event I mailed in my entry form. At that point people
in the gym and my friends outside of the gym started
to notice that I was carrying a gallon of water with
me and bringing my Tupperware meals everywhere
I went. What I saw then was that people were more
encouraging than I had expected and I was the only
person that may have felt any doubts. When people
asked me what I was doing and I told them they were
quick to say that they would like to come and watch the
show. Then they would ask me if I can get them a ticket
and before I knew it I had almost 200 people going to
watch. Now I knew that there was no backing out.
I knew I had a lot of hard work ahead and I couldn’t be
content to wait and see what will happen, but had to
have the determination to make the right things happen.
I was then offered and gladly accepted the help with
my diet from a local legend in the gym and former Mr.
Connecticut and Mr. New England Claudio Mancuso.
Claude is a great guy but he didn’t talk much to
anybody he would just pull up to the gym around 9am
in his convertible Mercedes Benz train for two hours
then go to the beach the rest of the day.
Everyone in the gym respected Claude but nobody
really knew what he did and how he could have the
type of lifestyle he had so people were kind of afraid
of the guy. I had come to find out he owned real estate

and a restaurant so he didn’t have to have a normal
day job and since he had asked me if I wanted his help
and he never went out of his way for anyone else there
was no way I was going to waste his time and cheat on
my diet. I recall the first things he cut of my diet were
the pasta, bread, and dairy and then he had to doing
an hour a day on the old Stairmaster but that is exactly
what I did. Maybe Claude just knew I was motivated
since there were better bodybuilders in the gym than
me but most of them just wouldn’t commit to getting
on stage. I’ve noticed and seen for myself in trying
to help others that motivation is a fire from within.
If someone else tries to light that fire under you,
chances are it will burn very briefly.
When I had called the show promoter about
tickets he had told me that when I was going to go
to his gym and pick the tickets up that he would
help me with mandatory poses. When I got there
I met Fred Yale for the first time and he quickly
took me through the poses and gave me a print
out of how to do them. I really appreciated the fact
that the guy that runs the whole show spent time
helping me out because I wasn’t a top contender
and I had no experience. This taught me that
good promoters train contestants, care about
them, and make winners out of them... and that if
you treat the athletes’ right they’ll come back.
In 1993 Fred Yale called me and told me he
had decided to more on to other things with
the Junior Olympics and asked me if I wanted
to take over the Mr. and Ms. Connecticut
event. I was surprised that he had called
me and asked why and he told me that he
felt I was the person that came to mind that
could promote the event. Over the past years
producing bodybuilding and fitness events I
still realize that it is the passion for the sports
that make for a good show.
I know that it is a small circle of people
that are involved in our sports and that as a

About the Producer
promoter you have to treat people fairly and put on the
best show that you can. I realize that whether you are
a competitor or a promoter of the show that you have
to love what you do because otherwise you will not be
successful.
In 1999 the Fitness Atlantic was the next transition
from the state show to a national event open to all
competitors throughout the country and also Canada. It
is still run with the values I learned as an athlete in this
sport myself and from my experiences. The show
should be well planned out, organized, beautiful
trophies and awards, run like a Broadway musical
with a great stage and lighting so the people in the
audience enjoy it too, but the most important is
the respect for each participant.
We all share that motivation and drive along
with the feelings of nervousness of actually
committing and sending in the entry form to
telling people what we are doing and why. You
will find that most people will support you and
your motivation will inspire others. People will
want to come and watch you on stage and when
you are 100% committed to a project it will
inspire people.
Bodybuilding and Fitness most likely will
become your lifestyle and a healthier way
of life by eating well and exercising. All of
the quick-fix programs and diets they sell of
television are a joke but you will know how to
transform your body in little time with the real
deal of hard work through proper nutrition and
exercise. The show is your deadline for a goal
and use it as your inspiration my committing
yourself 100%.
I realize that whether
you are a competitor
or a promoter of
the show that it is a
hobby and that you
have to love what you
do to be successful.
Look forward too seeing you on Stage!
