Jesus left the scene after the feeding of the multitude. They came
looking for Him. What were they looking for? They were not looking for Jesus. they wanted something from Him even to the point of
using Him. And then the discussion arose among them.
First, John wrote, "Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me
not because you saw sign but because you ate the loaves and were
filled." This is so human. Often times we choose things (gift) over
the giver or the immediate over the long term. There is a tendency in
all of us to choose the things God has given us over Him and His way
and will. There is a saying like this, "Give a man a fish and you feed
him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
Jesus said, "Do not work for food that perishes but for food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you." Jesus
gently but firmly reminded the people and all of us to always seek the
goal of eternal life and not to be so concentrated and focused on this
world and the things of this world. He re-emphasized that all things
in this world will perish and be gone today and/or tomorrow, but eternal life is perpetual. If we place great emphasis and importance on
imperishable things of the world, we will be like them; whereas, the
things of heaven will endure. Are you working for this world or are
you working for heaven?

Third, John wrote, "Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will
never thirst." After fraternal corrections, He instructed the people
and us how to achieve "eternal bread" for eternal life. Jesus said, "for
on him the Father, God, has set his seal." A seal signifies ownership
and the full security carried by the backing (full authority) of the
owner. Sealing in the ancient world served as a "legal signature"
which guaranteed the promise (contents) of what was sealed. Sealing
was sometimes done in antiquity by the use of religious tattoos –
again signifying "belonging to." Jesus reminded us that He is God's
seal and everything of Him is God. He invited us to come and to believe in Him. Jesus' first word to

His disciples and apostles was to come and see. Many of us like to be goers and doers and not comers. We cannot be a good
goer or doer without coming first to draw life and likeness from Jesus. Instead of bringing and giving Jesus to the world, we
give ourselves and our ways. The world needs more Jesus and not you and me. After coming, Jesus said to believe in Him, to
believe in His commandments, what He asks us to do and how to act, to live and to do them in our daily life. Are you doing

Apartment/Room Needed
David Hymel, a third year Honors student at ASU in Augusta, GA, is looking for an inexpensive, but clean and safe
place to live in Milledgeville so that he can attend school at GCSU. His tuition is paid for by HOPE and the Watson
Brown Scholarship he receives each year covers books and fees. Room and board is not covered, however, and is exorbitant in price. David hopes to be able to rent off campus and take care of his own board for a lot less money.
David attends St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Augusta, GA., where he is involved in the music ministry. He was recently asked to provide music (guitar and song leading) for a Vocacio Dei retreat held for high school young men in
Shreveport, Louisiana. He also helped lead music for a college age retreat in Macon, Georgia this past year. Father
Healy at St. Joseph's knows David well and would be a good reference.
David would like to know if there is anyone in the parish who has an inexpensive apartment, garage apartment, or room
to rent to him while he attends school. Or, do one of the parishioners know of such a place that they could recommend?

Items Needed for Donation to the Annual Helping Hands Society Fundraiser
The Helping Hands Society Annual Fundraiser will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Milledgeville Country
Club. We will have both a Silent and Live Auction and also Door Prizes. We are seeking good quality items for the
event. The following is a list of guidelines as to what we are seeking:
Anything new: that you would like to own such as jewelry, books or toys or household items.
Retreats: vacation packages such as condo at the beach or mountain retreat
Entertainment: tickets to sporting events, theater performances, amusement parks, museums, Symphony Orchestras, IPods,
Ipads, Tablets, Smart Phones, movie tickets with dinner.
Collectibles: plates, glassware, silver, gold, brass items, dolls, music boxes, sports memorabilia.
Antiques: furniture, paintings, heirlooms
Gift Certificates: restaurants, spas, fitness centers, food stores, movie theaters
Business Services: Household repairs, landscaping, painting, plumbing, electrical work, dentistry, medical services. Why not
ask businesses you patronize to donate an item such as patio furniture, gardening items, beauty salons, Auto Shops, Pool supplies.
Personal Services: Helping with lawn care, running errands, cooking/baking, shopping, driving to appointments, cleaning.
Themed Gift Baskets: Tailgate party, Low Country Boil, BBQ, Pet care, Appetizers, Movie Night-DVD, Popcorn, etc.,Tea
Drinkers, Coffees, Reading, Crafts, Cosmetics.
Handmade Items: Quilts, cakes, bread, Art Work, Carved Décor
No clothing accepted. We must receive the items by October 1, 2012 so we can prepare the printed material for the Auctions.
Remember that your donations are tax deductible. Items can be dropped off at the Church Office Monday through Friday
from 9AM-2PM or contact Sally Pratt at (478)414-7705 who will arrange for them to be picked up. Please include a
written description of the item and value, Remember we cannot guarantee what the selling price will be as it is totally dependent on the bids received. However, you are welcome to set an item’s Reserve Price and if we do not receive the minimum bid
you set, the item will be returned to you. If you would rather make cash donations in lieu of an item, it will also be appreciated.
Plan to attend the Dinner Buffet, Live/Silent Auction with Live Music Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 6:30PM at the
Milledgeville Country Club. Advance tickets will be available after Masses in September. Reservations for 4-8 at a table will be accepted so bring your friends and family for a fun way to raise funds for struggling Baldwin County

Get involved
The Apologetics Class will be offered in September, beginning the same date as Sunday School (date to be announced at a later time). The class will be held in Aquinas Hall from 10:00—11:00 a.m. The topic will be Catholicism & Fundamentalism, a book by Carl Keating. If
you are going to attend this class, the purchase of a book
will be necessary. Catholicism & Fundamentalism by
Carl Keating can be purchased from Ignatius Press for
$15.26 or you can get it from Amazon for $11.42 (the
Kindle version is also available for $9.99). These prices
are as of 7/19/12.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Hone
CCW will be offering raffle tickets to help support OLPH
on the weekends of August 25/26 and September 1./2.
Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Prizes are: Weber Gas
Grill, IPad2, and $500 cash.
If you are interested in attending the luncheon this year, it
will be held on October 20th at St. Peter Channel Church
in Roswell. Tickets for the luncheon are $40.
OLPH offers care for the terminally ill at no cost to them
or their families. Please help support this great home.
Catholics have a long history of
action – feeding the hungry, sheltering the
homeless, caring for the poor. Are you doing
all you can to help? If not, find out if there is
a parish ministry that could use your time,
talent, or treasure. Catholics like you are
meant to make a difference.
Run, don’t walk
If you think you don’t sin and don’t need the
Sacrament of Reconciliation, run – don’t
walk – to the nearest confessional. “If we
say, ‘We are without sin,’ we deceive ourselves” (1 John 1:8). Unconfessed sin, especially when it goes unnoticed, forms a barrier
between us and God. Penance, absolution,
and life
amendment helps to break it down.

prayer offered over nine consecutive
days in preparation for a feast day or a
special need – is a great way to ask
for God’s particular help.
One Man’s Junk is Another Man’s Treasure!
Do you have usable items that are “junking” up your house? Want to get rid of some of those items you haven’t used in years but just don’t know what to do with them? Well, we have the place for you. The Knights of Columbus will be glad to take those items off you hands so another man can find his “treasure”. They are collecting items now for their annual Yard Sale. You can bring your items to Aquinas Hall now. Please do not bring any chemical items (old paint or cleaning chemicals) or broken toys or unusable furniture (if you can bring them here you can take them to the dump). If you have items to be picked up, please call Dick McCoy at 318‐3328 to make arrangements for pick up.

beginning at 10am. We will car pool over to the meeting. We will meet at the block building between the Movie

and don't forget your Membership Card. Also, we need to let the hosting council know how many will receive
