First Sunday of Advent
Preparing for His coming
Are you ready to rumble?
First, Luke wrote, "Be vigilant at all times..." In a sense,
Luke is telling us to anticipate His coming by being watchful
and alert. All of us have gone through some experiences
of anticipation—anticipating a special event, of meeting
someone special, or expecting a great outcome from an
event or function. Anticipation often involves something
really positive, happy, joyful, loving and pleasurable. Advent calls us into the spirit of anticipation of Jesus' coming.
It is like a child anticipating to see his mom, a spouse longs
to see the other after days of being apart, or a young couple falling in love, yearning or desiring to see the beloved
constantly. How do we keep this spirit of anticipation burning in our hearts and lives for Christ's coming? It depends
on how much you LOVE & your PASSION. How much
passion and love do you have for Jesus? Really?
Second, while we are anticipating, we have a period in between which we need to prepare ourselves. So, how do
we prepare ourselves for Jesus' coming? Luke wrote,
"Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy..." In a
sense, Jesus ordered us to be the gatekeeper of our
hearts. A good gatekeeper is always watching the door of
his heart or the gate so that, as soon as he hears the carriage coming or the ring of the door bell, he opens the
doors of his soul and heart immediately for his master to
come in. We know that Jesus is coming and how are we
preparing to receive Him? The gatekeeper's ears are so in
tune to certain sounds and are able to distinguish which
sound is the carriage, the ring of the door bell or the knock
at the doors, so to our ears need to be tuned to Jesus'
voice, words and sounds that He is close by. A deeper and
intimate prayer life is required. How is your prayer life?
Have you set sometime aside for this? Have you read any
good Catholic spiritual book(s)? The gatekeeper's eyes
are constantly at the doors that he knows who comes in
and out, but so keen to the face of his master that he will
run to cater to his needs and wants. So too, our eyes need
to be keen of Jesus' face through adoration in front of the
Blessed Sacrament and trying to see other as Jesus' likeness so when He comes, we will be able to recognize it
much easier. Lastly, the gatekeeper will try his best to be
on his good manners, attitude and best behavior. So too,
our lives should be pleasing and less sinful. When was the
last time you went to confession?
Third, then the master (Jesus) comes unexpectedly. Are
you ready to rumble with abundant joy, overwhelming happiness and full of enthusiasm? Or will you be worried and
concerned with anxieties? Again, Luke wrote, "Be vigilant
at all times and pray..." Jesus again reminded us to be

vigilant, which meant every second of our lives and every breath that we are about to take should make them
count for His coming. This is a very hard and challenging demand, but it is doable and achievable. How? Think of
it mentally as much and as you can. For example, do you remember when you first fell in love and how you think
of that person constantly? The method applies in the same way as it is for Jesus' coming. You can do it. Have
you tried it yet? And if you fail, you can try it again and again and again until you get it right. Smile!

ANGEL TREE The Offertory Envelopes are on the table in Flannery O’Connor
Hall, in alphabetical order. Please go in after mass, either on the
weekend or daily mass, and pick up your envelopes. If you don’t
have envelopes, we encourage you to get them and use them.
Call Cindy in the office if you want to start getting envelopes and
she will see that you get them. The dates on the envelopes are
from January to December 2013 so please throw out your old
envelopes after the end of 2012. Some of your numbers might
have changed and you will not get proper credit if you use your
old envelopes.

present its Christmas 2012 concert, directed by Christopher Rosborough, on Monday, December
10, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at First
United Methodist Church on Log Cabin Road. Works will
be performed by composers such as Ives, Rutter, Holst,
