2011 Annual Catholic Appeal
February 13, 2011 ŚWIĘTA JADWIGA SANTA EDUVIGES 2226 NORTH HOYNE AVENUE • CHICAGO, IL 60647 2011 Annual Catholic Appeal St. Hedwig, pray for us. Św. Jadwigo, módl się za nami. Santa Eduviges, ruega por nosotros. ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO Administered by the Resurrection Fathers and Brothers Celebrating 122 years in the Bucktown Community. NOTES AND EVENTS 2 W EEKLY R EFLECTIONS 2011 ARCHDIOCESAN ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL BEGINS PLEASE RESPOND GENEROUSLY TO CARDINAL GEORGE’S REQUEST The theme of the 2011 Annual Catholic Appeal is “…seek first the kingdom of God…” (Matthew 6:33). Jesus taught that we are not to worry about the things of this world. Rather, we are to seek the kingdom of God and the Father will reward us. God provides all that we have and all that we are. Stewardship, in part, is the recognition of God’s gifts and the obligation to return a significant portion of our gifts to assist in his work. Our gifts to our parish, to our Archdiocese and the Church throughout the world are given in gratitude for what God has given us. A gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal helps to provide education, services, and ministry to thousands within and outside of our Archdiocese. The Appeal supports parish ministries that provide religious education to children, youth and adults in economically disadvantaged communities. It is also one of the largest philanthropic sources of financial support for Catholic schools in the Archdiocese. The Appeal also funds services that are of great help to the ministries here in our parish. After the death of the founder on July 2, 1840, his disciples under the direction of Peter Semenenko and Jerome Kajsiewicz, the co-founders of the Congregation, continued to develop his ideas and to live in community. On Easter Sunday, March 27, 1842, along with five other clerics, they professed their first religious vows in the Catacombs of St. Sebastian in Rome. The first Rule was written during the Lenten season of 1842 and became the basis for community life and personal sanctification. They were inspired to dedicate themselves to the Risen Savior and to call themselves the “Brothers of the Resurrection”. They were now dead to sin and alive with the Risen Christ in a new life dedicated to truth and charity. OUR SYMPATHY We pray for the deceased from our Parish who recently passed away: † Eugene V. Tepper Our prayers are also extended to their family members who grieve the loss of their loved ones. May the angels welcome them into paradise. May perpetual light shine upon them O Lord, and may they rest in peace. AMEN PLEASE REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS Those from our Parish who have requested your prayers. Let us all join together in helping to share His Gospel message through our financial support of the 2011 Annual Catholic Appeal of our Archdiocese. We pray to the Lord,” WHAT OUR KIDS LEARNED ABOUT THE FIRST COMMANDMENT “I am the Lord, your God. You shall have no other Gods beside me.” To me it means to always put God before me, my friends, and my family. Jesus Leon (Confirmation) I think it means we should respect God and only God. We shall not have other Gods. Also we should have a good relationship with God. We should also pray to God. Angelica Solis (Confirmation) This commandment means that I should pray to God. This also means that their should not be two Gods only one God that is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Marcos (Confirmation) I think it means respect people. Always put God first, not anything else more than him. Melanie (Pre-Communion) Love nothing more than one God. Do NOT put money, friends, fame, or heroes first.
