NSARC HF Operators 9 Top of Az Rotor -•-• --•- - •• • ••• - • - - • •• - • ••• • -• Note that the pipe clamp is removable Top of Az rotor housing TOP Top Pipe Clamp Removed Nice clamp guides to position the clamp 22 May 2008 NSARC HF Operators 10 Bottom of Az Rotor -•-• --•- - •• • ••• - • - - • •• - • ••• • -• Presumed that the EL bracket goes on bottom of AZ rotator since pipe clamp is normally on top. No instructions to state otherwise Bottom of Az rotor housing BOTTOM EL bracket No clamp guides to position the pipe clamp 22 May 2008 NSARC HF Operators 11 As Mounted (incorrect) -•-• --•- - •• • ••• - • - - • •• - • ••• • -• Bracket for the EL rotor Inverted Az Rotor 22 May 2008 NSARC HF Operators 12 Correct Mounting -•-• --•- - •• • ••• - • - - • •• - • ••• • -• Bracket for the EL rotor Inverted Az Rotor 22 May 2008 NSARC HF Operators 13 What Difference -•-• --•- - •• • ••• You noticed? The TOP of the AZ rotor still faces UP These Bolts face down The Terminal board is on the bottom - • ••• • -• Top The Rotor housing MUST remain “upright” 22 May 2008 - - • •• - • NSARC HF Operators Bottom 14 Why – because of the Gap -•-• --•- - •• • ••• - - - • •• - • • ••• • -• Rotation has to take place between top & bottom Weep Hole The bottom side normally fixed in place This being part of the top, rotates There has to be a break between the two housing to allow rotation. The Gap (very small & tight) In this installation configuration, the gap is now on top rather than sheltered underneath as would be the situation for the conventional in-tower position 22 May 2008 NSARC HF Operators 15 Suspect -•-• --•- - •• • ••• - • - - • •• - • ••• • -• The GAP will let water leak in The water cannot drain out when Az housing is upside down The Rotor is probably full of water It had to come down Right then (4 May 08) 22 May 2008 NSARC HF Operators 16 Removal -•-• --•- - •• • ••• - • - - • •• - • ••• • -• Look!
