Kelly Shaw (Event Director) found her passion for dance at Premiere
Dance Inc. in Oakville, where she started dancing at the age of 7 and
competed for 10 years. She has trained with the Joffrey Ballet, and
Springboard Danse Montreal, and she graduated with honors from Ryerson
University’s Performance Dance major program in 2010. She performed as
an apprentice and company member with Toronto’s ProArte Danza and she
was involved in acclaimed choreographer Lars Scheibner’s commissioned
work “Sealed Angel”, which Soundstreams brought to Toronto from
Germany in 2012. Kelly was a part of the 2013 Toronto Fringe Festival and
currently dances with Eryn Waltman’s Conteur as well as with TOES for
dance. She recently studied Ohad Naharin’s improvisation technique at the
Gaga Intensive in Barcelona, Spain. Kelly became a modern faculty member
for the newly opened Conteur Dance Academy in Toronto in October 2012,
and she is excited to be an Event Director and faculty member touring with FRESH for her 8th season!
Sean Howe, an Ohio native, went to various studios and an arts school to
advance his dance education before moving to New York City to attend the
Juilliard School, where he is completing his first year under the direction of
Lawrence Rhodes. Inspired by his grandpa, Gordie Howe (Mr. Hockey),
Sean was always motivated by his family to follow his passion and pursue
dance as a career. He is a modern dance alumni of the National YoungArts
Foundation, which named him a 2013 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts
and gave him the opportunity to perform at the Kennedy Center in
Washington, D.C. Sean has worked with many choreographers, including
Takehiro Ueyama in his work “Nakamuraya” and Christopher Gatelli in
excerpts from the musical “Newsies” for the 2012 Astaire Awards. Through
assisting workshop conventions across the U.S., Sean developed a love for
working with students. He began teaching at home, focusing on expanding
the minds of the dancers and his own choreographic endeavors. His choreography has been
showcased in his schools’ main-stage performances, and he continues to explore choreography as an
important area of study. Sean is honored to be a part of the 2014 FRESH faculty and excited to inspire
and be inspired by the dancers he works with!
Bretonie Burchell was born in Calgary, Alberta and began
dancing at the age of 3. She performed on a cruise line, was chosen to
participate in a professional choreography competition, and trained in
Seattle, Los Angeles, New York, and London, all before graduating
from high school. She was a scholarship recipient at numerous
conventions and received the “Dancer of the Year” title at ADA Dance
Competition in Calgary. She moved to Toronto when she was 17 and
expanded her training into hip hop, contemporary, and jazz. She has
appeared in music videos for Shawn Desman and Blake McGrath and
has worked with new Toronto-based artists Guinevere and Chach. She
appeared on the TV show “Love Trap” (Cosmo) as a dancer and
assistant choreographer, and on MTV Live and in an MTV promo
commercial as a dancer. She has performed at the A.C.E Awards
(NYC), Alternative Fashion Week, LG Fashion Week, World of Dance (Toronto), and Toronto’s
Original Choreographers Ball. Bretonie currently teaches and choreographs all around Ontario
and Alberta. She continues to train and work in the Toronto area and takes great joy in passing
along her knowledge and love to the upcoming generation. She cannot wait to do that at FRESH!
