We are affected by external stimuli. How effectively we communicate seems to be influenced by how rapidly things are changing in the world around us. The ground underneath our feet shifts frequently. Exponential changes are happening with our ecosystems, our political states, and within the advancement of technology. entre parenthèses (in brackets) is a collaborative study. I dedicate this work to these bright young artists who gave a lot of themselves in this process. Additional thanks to Megan Nadain for her artistry. ― DT PLEASE NOTE • Latecomers will not be admitted to the theatre until there is a break in the performance. • The use of cameras, video cameras, or camera phones is strictly prohibited. • Please turn your cell phones off or to silent mode. The loud little handful will shout for the war.… A few fair men on the other side will argue and reason against the war, and at first will have a hearing and be applauded; but it will not last long; those others will outshout them…. Before long you will see this curious thing: the speakers stoned from the platform, and free speech strangled by hordes of furious men who in their secret hearts are still at one with those stoned speakers -- as earlier -- but do not dare say so. And now the whole nation will take up the war-cry, and shout itself hoarse, and mob any honest man who ventures to open his mouth; and presently such mouths will cease to open.” ― Mark Twain, 1904 Sketch of section 5 (November 27, 2014) The School of Toronto Dance Theatre’s presentation of Sketch of section 5 is made possible by the generous support of the Bulmash-Siegel Fund.
