If you are late for any reason you must get a late slip from the office. • Students who receive 3 unexcused late slips in a month will serve a recess detention. • Students who are absent for the day must submit a note to their TA upon their return to be recorded as excused. • Students who wish to leave school between classes must sign-out at the office with a valid reason. Academics Late Assignments • Students are expected to pass in assignments on-time. If an assignment is late: – The student must meet with the teacher, determine a new due date and fill out a “Late Assignment” form. – If the new date is not met, an email will be sent to the parent and the student may receive zero if the work is not submitted. ALL assignments must be submitted prior to the end of term. Academics Late Assignments Academics Missing Test or Quiz • Students missing a test/quiz will write the assessment during next class upon their return (or a time arranged by the teacher). • A note must be provided to THE SUBJECT TEACHER indicating the reason for the absence. • Students will be responsible for catching up on missed work. Academics Academic Dishonesty • Students who exhibit academic dishonesty (Plagiarism, Copying, etc) shall: – Receive home contact from their teacher. – Write a letter of acknowledgement and reflection. Upon meeting the conditions the teacher will decide on an alternative evaluation and date. Dress code Students must dress appropriately and in a respectful manner. • No wearing hats in class • No exposure of undergarments • No sexually suggestive or inappropriate clothing Other Behaviour/ Expectations • Students are expected to be on their best behaviour and respect each other. • Students are not permitted to smoke on school grounds. • Students must park in the back row of the parking lot. • No eating or drinking in class. (Except water) Other Behaviour/ Expectations • Cafeteria service. NO pre-ordering except for music room special order. • Media centre is a QUIET area. Absolutely no food or drink permitted. Group study sessions may occur in the cafeteria. • School closure - 2:55. Students MUST leave the building unless supervised by a teacher. • The use of cell phones for texting, making calls, social media or recording is not permitted during instructional time. EXTRA- CURRICULAR PROBATION Participating in athletics or other extracurricular activities and representing Clarenville High School is a privilege. The school’s Probation committee will determine and monitor student eligibility for extracurricular activities at the school. Students representing Clarenville High on a school team or club should be aware of the following THREE requirements: 1) Academic Eligibility • If a student not reaching their academic potential at any time during the term, they will meet with the administration and placed on probation. • If, at the end of the probation period, the student is NOT working to potential, he/she will lose eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities. The length of probation and/or suspension will be determined by the administration. EXTRA- CURRICULAR GUIDELINES 2) Citizenship • Students representing Clarenville High are expected to demonstrate positive behavior in and out of the classroom and to respect staff, peers, officials, competitors and spectators. • All school rules apply at all school related activities. • Concerns regarding behavior will result in review of a student’s eligibility and either a probationary period or loss of participation privileges will be determined. • Students who are suspended from school will be considered ineligible for participation during the entire length of the suspension. If a weekend occurs in the middle of the suspension, the student is still ineligible. 3) Attendance • Active and regular attendance is required of all students participating in an extracurricular activity at Clarenville High School. • Students may be ruled ineligible for any activity as a result of other significant attendance issues as determined by the administration. Review the policy in your student handbook Key points • Dance will run from 8 PM to 10:30 PM • Students arriving after 8:30 PM must have their names on the late sign in sheet • Any student who has been coded as having an unexcused absence on the day of the dance will not be permitted to attend. • Students must dress appropriately and in a respectful manner. • Students are expected to be on their best behaviour. • Guests must be signed in at the office prior to the dance. Students are NOT permitted to go to the Middle School Expectations: • If you need to visit a sibling or CMS teacher you must go directly to the office and ask for him/her to be paged. • Students who are enrolled in music class must use the ‘outside’ hallway. • Dismissal: Students may exit through the middle school entrance to go to the bus. See Emergency Procedures in your Student hand book. FIRE/EMERGENCY EVACUATION DRILLS • • • • Turn off the lights and close windows before leaving the room. Close the classroom door when the last student leaves. Students are to walk in an orderly fashion to the appropriate exit. Once out of the building, the teacher and his/her students must assemble as a group. At this time, the teacher will do roll-call. • Teachers should keep students at least twenty-five feet from the building and out of all driveways. • Teachers and students will remain outside until the signal to return (the bell) is given. • Teachers will take attendance when classes resume. A course of action in which school safety is best achieved by ‘securing’ the school and restricting student and staff movement throughout the building. • Secure School is announced over the public address system. • Teachers and staff will check hallways for students and direct them to the nearest classroom. If you are in another room… do not leave it. • All doors will be locked. • Attendance will be taken. • Students may not leave the area. • Remain calm and continue teaching until the secure school call is lifted. An emergency course of action to secure students and staff in a safe location in the event of an armed intruder. • Lockdown signal will be a warning bell followed by this announcement over the public address system: “Please initiate emergency lockdown procedures”. • The Police will be contacted immediately. • Lock all interior/exterior doors. • Close curtains. • All lie or sit silently along a safe wall (Wall not visible through door or window). • All cell phone ringers shall be turned off. • The use of email and text messaging shall be monitored by a teacher. • Disregard bells and alarms. • The Police are the only authority to lift a lockdown. Stay in the secure area until notified by police that the lockdown has been lifted. School Pictures will take place September 16th and 17th • Every students is required to take a school picture for our school records and emergency information. • You do not have to purchase a picture package unless you wish. Assign students with a network username and password. • Level 2 and 3 students may use the same pass word as last year. Fill out the username form if you wish to change your password. • TA’s shall pass out usernames to Level 1 students. The password is chs. When you log on to a computer you will be prompted to change it. • Cell phone access will not work until you have logged onto a computer first. Log on to CH_Student to access the internet with your mobile device. All sheets must be returned to your TA by Thursday, Sept. 17th Hand out the Cougar Chronicle • You will receive a Cougar Chronicle twice a term. • Please bring it home to your parent. (new students only) • Grade 11 & 12 students will keep last years locker. (No Fee) • Lockers must be kept clean and locked. • Your TA will inspect your locker for damage when you graduate! • Do NOT share your combination
