Churches around America are participating in this Nationwide outreach of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Assn. to bring HOPE to our family, friends, & nation. Join us to learn how to share the Hope! Coordinated by our very own BGEA employee, Craig Bender, all of our adult Sunday School teachers have joined together to bring this training class to you. We believe this is so important that we’re having ONE COMBINED Sunday School class for adults until November. This class will culminate with members inviting family & friends together for an evening of food, fellowship, & faith. The world may be growing darker, but the light & hope of Christ are growing brighter. Be part of the movement to bring light & hope to those you love! “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the HOPE that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15 The opportunity you’ve been waiting for … you can still read the New Testament this year!!! Begin September 28; finish by December 31! Pick up your copy of the Scripture reading list in the Narthex rack. This has put a huge drain on Loaves and Fishes, and they are in dire circumstances. Please bring as many food items as you can, especially protein items such as peanut butter (who doesn’t love that?) and canned meats. Place them in the L&F grocery cart in the narthex. Thank you. Vegetable Garden Help Needed The summer produce of squash, peppers, okra and tomatoes from the garden are beginning to wind down. We plan on planting some winter crops soon. The produce has been placed in the SOJ food pantry and some has been taken down to Friendship Trays at the Community Culinary School of Charlotte. We are always in need of help – please contact Bill Roberts 704-821-1894. Small Group Mission Outreach Does your SOJ small group want to help those in need but raising the funds is overwhelming? Or maybe you just can’t think of a project to do. Missions Committee wants to help! This year, we have allocated funds to assist established SOJ groups pursue mission outreach opportunities (i.e., show the love of Christ to the needy outside our own SOJ congregation). Examples have been the Youth’s work at Yahweh, bags of hope for families with children hospitalized with grave illnesses, and GUYS’ assistance for a single Mom in making her home more livable. If you’re looking for ideas for projects, we’ve got some! And we can help you fund them, too. For more info, please contact Ann Lashley 704.846.8150 or [email protected]. As you prepare for Fall, please check your closets for new and/or gently worn coats and sweaters. Operation Christmas Child It’s coming up soon! Please start collecting items. So far, we have only secured 2 dates to serve at the processing center; more about this later. You can also fill a great need by helping prepare shoe boxes for donation – look for upcoming notices as to when we will have a “Shoe Box Packing” party here at SOJ. Blood Drive Tuesday, December 3 Give the gift of life -- watch for sign-ups in the Narthex. Other News We have sent monies to Eben_Ezer Ministries in Haiti to help them become a port agent so that they receive their own shipments directly. Often, shipped items never reach them due to theft or the exorbitant fees applied by the existing agents are exorbitant, thus diminishing the donation to them. This is great news for our brothers and sisters there. We have also sent monies to Loaves and Fishes – Union County to help them with this great demand they are facing due to Food Stamp system error. Let’s all pray that this gets resolved quickly.
