CASTIADAS: A PIECE OF PARADISE IN SOUTH SARDINIA
The Ville di Castiadas form part of a residential complex of great charm, located in
Castiadas in the province of Cagliari. The town is located close to an offshoot of the “Sette
Fratelli” nature reserve (58,846 hectares, one of the largest in Sardinia) which stretches
as far as the sea. Castiadas is is a territory characterized by a sea of turquoise blue and a
pristine environment, with its 20 km coastline of beaches and beautiful landscapes and the
long coastline of dazzling white sand beaches. The many beaches of Castiadas, have unique
and different colors, changing from a white sand like fine crystal in the localities named,
Cala Pira, Monte Turno and Sant' Elmo, to a compact, golden sand, in the seaside resorts
of Cala Sinzias, Cala Marina , Villa Rey and San Giusto.
In addition to the beautiful beaches, Castiadas, is also known for the pristine beauty of
its territory, in fact, with its chain of mountains characterized by white rocks worked by
the wind, integrated into the dark green juniper trees and its wonderful forests of oak trees
gives the impression that time has stopped.
The design bears the signature of the wellknown architect Vito Sonzogni, who
followed the example of Le Courbusier
especially in relation to the organization
of space, with town planning, architecture
and urban furniture all within his remit.
Every house at Castiadas Village is made
in full respect of the environment and the
original natural context, combining the
requirements
of
environmental
compatibility with those of traditional nuragic architecture.
The house model a
uniform village, entirely at the service of the community, but at the same time securing, for
all villas, absolute privacy and tranquility. The project, currently underway, envisages
the development of 35 highly unique and original villas, prestigious from the point of view
of quality and architectural design.
The home’s layout is an open space,
formed by three distinct parts: an indoor
part for the day, an indoor part for the
night, a third part called “patio” an
outdoor living room, which becomes the
real heart of the house. The Patio has
been designed to become the main core
of the house, where family meets and
everyday
life
flows
sharing
private
relationship moments with each other.
The typical house presents itself as a stone shield with an open heart on the sea.
The villas are at the same time gathered around the patio, the central place of family, and
opened to the wonderful landscapes of
sun, sea, granite and Mediterranean
that characterize this area.
Special deference has been paid to the
historical dimension of the locality: in the
type of residences, in the use of local
materials and in the global organization of
the residential village. And in particular, the
expressive presence of the exposed stone
and of the trilith. The monolithic stones lend stability, energy and warmth to the houses
and re-introduce the ancestral architecture of Sardinian stone. The use of the stone in the
manner just described requires the selection of compatible building materials and
techniques: smooth and unsmooth plasters, shutters, wrought iron and cane structures,
painting and flooring all reflect the simple forms of tradition.
