It is on the main thoroughfare between Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park. Downtown Arlee consists of a grocery store and a few other small businesses. Purpose Developing Wings established the ArleeMontana.org website in 2005 for local groups to share. Sharing one site helped community in many ways. In addition to sharing each other’s audience they could post for each other as well. The advertising dollars spent supported the whole community. Tibetan Lama (teacher) Tulku Sang‐ngag Rinpoche and his family moved to Arlee and created an International Peace Center, the Garden of One Thousand Buddha’s, just north of Arlee Montana. Arlee is now an international tourist destination. In 2011 Developing Wings established ArleeMontana.com for businesses and tourism information. The Facebook page and the web cam were added. The Facebook page combines information from ArleeMontana.org and ArleeMontana.com to share information about the community. 4 Performance Evaluation – Arlee Montana Web Cam/Community Sites| Developing Wings, Inc. ArleeMontana ArleeMontanaWebCam PerformanceEvaluation Report by: Roxane A. Rinard Analysis September 6, 2013 In 2011 the web cam images were posted and people became ‘Fans’ to receive the daily images. Over time community news and pictures were added. In 2013 the web cam is not the focal point but it does have benefits. People share the images that are important to them, which bring in more fans. The images are also shared with news stations. Arlee is a small community near Missoula Montana. Prior to the web sites and web cam Arlee only made the news for tragedy. The power of networking through Facebook became evident during the Firestone Flats Fire located just west of Arlee. Developing Wings is located in Arlee. When we saw the smoke we knew there were people who need help. They would need horse trailers, places to put animals and places to stay. We turned the cam that direction, posted pictures on Facebook and requested help. In moments the community came together with offers of help. We attended the first meeting from the Fire Department. The fire was expanding rapidly and the control of the fire was transitioning from local to federal support. We were surprised that the government did not create a way to contact displaced families. We created an email list for displaced families to keep them informed. In less than 2 hours after the meeting, the fire department wanted to contact the displaced families and contacted us so we could contact them. 11 Performance Evaluation – Arlee Montana Web Cam/Community Sites| Developing Wings, Inc. To help local businesses we have started to offer advertising to local companies. As always, the challenge is not the technical aspect but training the advertiser how to utilize the system to their advantage. 27 Performance Evaluation – Arlee Montana Web Cam/Community Sites| Developing Wings, Inc.
