Emerging Writers Workshop: Memoir
Workshop with Phoebe Gloeckner
Traverwood Branch • GRADE 6–ADULT
Phoebe Gloeckner is an Assoc. Professor, U-M
School of Art & Design, and a graphic novelist. Her
book, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, was praised as
“one of the most brutally honest, shocking, tender,
beautiful portrayals of growing up female in America.” It was also adapted
as a film that got rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival and will be
released in theaters later this year. Phoebe will speak about the unique
challenge and experience of writing and publishing memoir.

FILM FESTIVAL DISCUSSION • Cinetopia with Russ Collins and
Martin Bandyke • Pittsfield Branch • Martin Bandyke, of Ann Arbor’s
107one, hosts a look at the Cinetopia International Film Festival with
Russ Collins, Cinetopia founder and Exec. Director/CEO of the Michigan
Theater. Find out how the Festival began, why it has grown enormously in
just four years, and future plans for it. Russ will discuss this year’s June 5–14
line-up of more than 100 films in ten venues.

members of AADL and the City of Ann Arbor’s Natural Area Preservation
for an informative nature walk along the Huron River in this 22-acre
nature area. Learn about the native plants and animals and the diverse
natural features of Argo. Dress comfortably and appropriately for the
weather. Meet in the parking lot by Argo Canoe Livery, off Longshore Dr.

AADL SUMMER GAME 2015 BEGINS!
Adults, teens, and kids can sign up at play.aadl.org or
any AADL location and start earning points for reading, watching films,
writing reviews, attending Library events, and exploring your community!
Then, trade your points for Library logo gear at the online Summer
Game Shop and pick up your order at the AADL location of your
choice. That’s the Summer Game, and it’s all summer long!

steampunk culture. Instead of a post-apocalyptic world of steam-powered
machines, the contraptions are powered by people and pedals. The Q&A
with Chris precedes the 6 PM performance of Cirque Mechanics: The
Gantry Bike at Hill Auditorium Plaza as part of the A2 Summer Festival.

University • Magmanus Company is a Swedish circus company founded
in 2009 by the Franco-Norwegian duo Manu Tiger and Magnus Bjoru.
Their vision is to spread happiness and create unexpected moments of connectivity among strangers. They’ve performed in 22 countries, including
at some of the top circus festivals in the world – and they’ll perform at the
Ann Arbor Summer Festival as part of their first North American tour! Meet
the duo before The Magmanus Show at 5 pm at Hill Auditorium Plaza.

Acro-balance is the physical act of sharing weight and balancing
between two or more people. Members of A2 Aviary will cover the
fundamentals of this fun circus art form as participants work to improve
balance, strength, flexibility, communication, and body/mind awareness.
Everyone will have the opportunity to try basing, flying, and spotting
each movement. This program will take the entire hour and will require
patience and focus.

Fresh off the festival circuit, filmmaker Jason Z. and
Ann Arbor poet Molly Raynor share Jason’s compelling new documentary about an inner city community activist who inspired a citywide dialogue about
ending the fatal turf war in Richmond, CA, through
his dramatic recreation of Romeo and Juliet. Get a sneak peak of the film, but
shhhhh … it’s a secret! There’s a Q&A with Jason and Molly after the film.

An Architectural Guide will walk you through his
