Der Latscher
Figurenmenhir
1992 wurde in der Kirche „Unsere
liebe Frau auf dem Bichl“ bei
Restaurierungsarbeiten des Landesdenkmalamtes der Latscher
Menhir (3.300–2.200 v. Chr.) gefunden. Die aus feinstem Vinschger
Marmor gefertigte Stele bildete
die Auflagefläche der Altarmensa.
Kopf- und Fußpartie sowie Teile
der linken Schulter des 107 cm
hohen, 77 cm breiten und 12
cm dicken Steines fehlen. Sein
ursprünglicher Aufstellungsort
befand sich wahrscheinlich im
Bereich der heutigen Kirche auf
dem Bühel und damit weithin
sichtbar. Neben den ikonografischen Zügen, die den männlichen
Bildsteinen der Etschtalgruppen
eigen ist, wie Girlandengürtel,
Lochäxte, Dolche, Keule, Bogen,
verschiedene Schmuckelemente
und Fransenmantel, treten
Elemente auf, die zur Lombard
ischen Gruppe aus Valcamonica
und dem Veltlin gehören, wie
Sonnen, Hirsche und eine stilisierte menschliche Figur. Damit
stellt der Latscher Figurenmenhir
einen großartigen Beweis für die
Jahrtausende alte Verbindung
des Vinschgaus beziehungsweise
des Etschtales mit den Tälern
der nordöstlichen Lombardei
dar.

Il Menhir di Laces
Il Menhir di Laces (3.300–2.200
a.C.) venne scoperto nel 1992
durante alcuni lavori di restauro
alla chiesa die S. Maria in colle
da parte della Sovrintendenza ai
beni culturali.
Lo stelo di marmo venostano costituiva la superficie
d’appoggio dell’Altare. Di questo
blocco marmoreo alto 107 cm,
largo
77 cm e dello spessore di 12
cm mancano la parte superiore e quella inferiore come pure
alcuni parti della spalla sinistra.
Originariamente era collocata
probabilmente sullo spazio dove
oggi si trova la Chiesa sul colle
– e quindi visibile da lontano.
Oltre ai tratti iconografici comuni a tutte le steli del gruppo
della Val d’Adige come cinturoni
a festoni, asce, pugnali, clave,
archi, diversi elementi di decoro
e mantelli frangiato, troviamo
anche elementi che appartengono al gruppo lombardo della
Val Camonica e della Valtellina
come il sole, cervi e una figura
maschile stilizzata. Il Menhir di
Laces è dunque la prova dell’
esistenza di un collegamento
vecchio di millenni tra la Val
Venosta e la Val d’Adige con le
Valli della Lombardia nordorientale.
The Engraved Menhir in
Latsch
What is known as the Latsch
"Menhir” (3.300–2.200 before
Christ) was brought to light by
the State Monument Authorities
in 1992 during some restoration
work operations to the "Unsere
Liebe Frau auf dem Bichl" church
in Latsch. The approximately 5000-year-old engraved fine
Vinschgau marble stela, was
discovered under the wooden
altar table. The top and bottom
parts as well as some of the left
upper side parts are missing
from the block that measures
107 cm high, 77 cm wide and
is 12 cm thick. It was probably
originally erected on the hillock
the present-day church is currently built on – thus meant to be
well visible from afar. Other than
the iconographic tracts and elements common to all the engraved male stelae forming what is
known as the Etsch Valley group,
i.e. etchings of scalloped belts,
axes, daggers, clubs and bows as
well as decorative elements and
fringed capes, there are a num-
ber of further engravings that
are typical of the Val Camonica
and Valtellina stelae groups
uncovered in northern Italy’s
Lombardy region, such as sun
and deer figures and a stylised
male figure.
The Latsch "Menhir” therefore goes to prove an age-long
connection thriving between the
Vinschgau and Etsch Valleys, with
the valleys in Lombardy’s northeastern districts.
Schalenstein
Weltweit verbreitet und rätselhaft wie Menhire und Fels
zeichnungen erscheint heute
das Phänomen der Schalen
steine. Auch am Sonnenberg
zwischen Kastelbell und Goldrain
sind viele unterschiedliche
Schalensteine aufzufinden. Dabei
handelt es sich um kleinere
und größere von Menschenhand
geschaffene Vertiefungen in
Fels- und Gesteinsoberflächen.
Man findet sie einzeln oder auch
in Gruppen, meist an alten Weg
trassen, Wasserläufen und häufig an exponierten Stellen.
Der Beginn der Schalenstein
produktion reicht im Alpenraum
archäologisch nachgewiesen
bis in die Jungsteinzeit (eventuell sogar in die Mittelsteinzeit)
zurück. In der Bronzezeit wurden auch noch häufig Schalen
steine angefertigt. Bis zum Ende
der Eiszeit kam es anscheinend
zum Abklingen dieses Brauches.
Erst im späten Frühmittelalter,
als das Christentum bereits weit
fortgeschritten war, tritt ein neuer
Aufschwung ein. Eine zweite
Blüte erlangte dieses Phänomen
im Hochmittelalter, um im frühen 18. Jahrhundert endgültig
zu versiegen.

Coppelle
Il fenomeno delle coppelle si
presenta oggi diffuso in tutto il
mondo e misterioso come i Menhir
e le incisioni rupestri. Anche
sul Monte Sole tra Castelbello
e Coldrano e in Val Martello troviamo numerose coppelle. Si tratta
di incavi di diversa grandezza
creati dalla mano dell’ uomo
sulla superficie di sassi e rocce.
Le si trova isolate o a gruppi,
di solito su vecchi tracci tracciati e corsi d’acqua e spesso
in luoghi esposti. L’ inizio della
produzione di coppelle nell’ arco
alpino, provato da un punto di
vista archeologico, risale all’età
neolitica (eventualmente addirittura fino al mesolitico). Anche
nell’età del bronzo si produssero
spesso delle coppelle. Sembra
che verso la fine dell’età del
ferro questa produzione lentamente si sia avviato a scomparire.
Solo nel tardo alto Medioevo,
quando il Cristianesimo era già
ben sviluppato, questa pratica
prese nuove vigore, per avere poi
un secondo periodo di fioritura
nel tardo Medioevo e scomparire
definitivamente all’inizio del 18.
secolo.
Cupule engravings
Cupule rock art decorations are
nowadays found to be a worldwide spread phenomenon and
just as mysterious as menhir
standing stones.
A varied selection of such cupules
consisting in different sized cupshaped engravings, hand carved
by man on stone and rock surfaces, have also been discovered
on the Sonnenberg mountain
slopes between Kastelbell and
Goldrain and Martelltal. They
are arranged in either isolated or
group settings, alongside paths
and road tracks, streams and
waterways and are often located
on the most exposed rock outcroppings.
Proven archaeological evidence
establishes that the beginnings
of cupule engravings date back
to the Neolithic (with some
dating even as far back as the
Mesolithic) era. The bronze age
too provides records of cupule
rock art, up towards the end of
the iron age, where the production of cupules then slowly fades
away. Even though Christianity
is evidently well established by
the time, this form of rock art
is apparently picked up again
towards the end of the early
Middle Ages, with a second bout
flourishing around the High
Middle Ages. It then definitely disappears around the early
18th Century.
