BORZALL’S TERMINATOR IS UP TO THE JOB
On a job in Charlotte, VT, ECI Directional Drilling installed 350 linear feet of 36 inch SDR 17 HDPE with 6-6 inch HDPE conduits, 4-2 inch HDPE conduits and 1-4 inch HDPE conduit inside of it. Three Terminators were used. A 20 inch and a 36 inch
were used to step ream the hole and then a 48 inch Terminator was used for
the final ream. The ground conditions were a soft sticky clay. The Terminator did an excellent job of turning the formation into a flowable slurry to
the exit pit. Once the 48" ream was done the pipe was installed in 3.5 hours.
The Terminator was used to install 400 linear feet of 24 inch SDR 17 HDPE
10 feet away from the 36" HDPE 6 weeks later.

We have had our Eagle Claw now going on over a
year and have used it several times for 80 to 300 foot
bores through cobble rock and solid limestone. The
head itself has held up great. We have only had to replace the teeth. The reliability of the Eagle Claw has
been exactly what we were looking for. There has not been one shot we have not been
able to make since the purchase of the Eagle Claw. Every time I have had a problem or
question and have had to call customer service the help has been outstanding and very
reliable.

EATS UP CALIFORNIA SOILS
We have completed many successful bores with your Terminator reamers that you have supplied us. We own several sizes
ranging from 6” to 14” for each one of our 4 HDD rigs. There is no such thing as a universal reamer, but by far the Terminator is the closest we have found. We travel all of California chasing work and encounter just about every soil condition possible, so we need something that’s going to work for us in most conditions. We have put the Terminator to the test in
sticky / swelling clays, rocky shale, sandstone, hardpan, and even sand. The Terminator does such a great job chopping up
and mixing soil it makes vacuuming up spoils much easier. We have
also found pushing back Terminator after a pre-ream works great
unlike other winged bladed style reamers.

We had 2 machines running on the same project at the same
time to complete a 350' bore through cobble rock. The 24x40
and 36x50 bore rigs. The 24x40 had an Eagle Claw bit on it
and the 36x50 had a competitor’s bit on it. After 3 shots, the
brand new competitor’s bit was completely worn down. The Eagle Claw, on the other hand,
looked as though nothing fazed it, has done well over 40 shots and is still working on our projects today.”

During a 500' bore on the Marmaton River we encountered clay
above the water level and shale below. The Terminator broke the
soils down to a flowing mud. The design allowed the machine to
run at ease. The difficult part about the bore was that we had to
drill 45 foot down and then come up 20 feet. The Terminator allowed us to make the bore. It’s the best mixing and low pressure

CUT LIKE A HOT KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER
We used the Sabertooth on a 1,100' bore through cobbles and limestone. The Sabertooth cut through
the tough conditions like a hot knife through butter, with very
little chatter to the rods or rig.

“We were drilling with our Vermeer 24 x 40 Series 2 on a busy road between the towns of
Camarillo and Moorpark, CA., having some difficulty with three pilot bores. The conditions varied from hard compacted ground, rocky shale and cobble. Our Melfred Borzall
representative offered us one of their proto-type 4.25" Eagle Claws to test and help finish
the bores. The timing was perfect in order to complete this portion of the project.

steer the bit and we were able to maintain pitch and depth through the entire bore, including keeping the proper clearance from the
existing high pressure gas line. The pilot bore was completed and
product was pulled back in a timely manner.
The second bore was about 120' in compacted rocky shale. We had
previously tried this pilot bore using a standard bit, which sheared
off the bolts and nearly ruined our housing. We set up again using
the Melfred Borzall Eagle Claw and completed pilot bore within two
hours, successfully pulling product back.
The third bore was by far the most difficult yet. The distance on this
bore was about 300' and there were several utilities to avoid. We
started out in a soft sand condition and then the soil changed to

softball-sized
cobble. This pilot bore took a little more time with the cobbles redirecting us. We had
to correct the pilot bore a few times by pulling back and carving with the Eagle Claw
back and forth. We were able to maintain our pitch and depth while keeping proper
clearances from existing utilities. The bore
was completed in about 6 hours.

1
What will you connect
to the front of your reamer?
Based on your machine capacity, choose a reamer series:
Standard “T” reamers for machines up to 30,000 pounds pullback
and 4,000 ft-pounds torque.
Heavy Duty “TH” for machines up to 80,000 pounds pullback
and 10,000 ft.-pounds of torque.
Select the part number for the Reamer Body you want, based on
the reamer size and style.
For example–a 12" Style 96 Sabertooth is 96-12-T.
