Press Release From the Neighbourhood. For the Neighbourhood. “DEIN VIERTEL. DEINE LEINWAND.” transforms Munich’s Gärtnerplatz district into an art project that can be experienced and walked through Munich, July 2016. Themed “DEIN VIERTEL. DEINE LEINWAND.” from July 11 to August 7, 2016 more than forty galleries, restaurants, bars, cafés and shops in the district will collaborate with local artists to reshape the Gärtnerplatz neighbourhood and show it in its full diversity. During the four-week time span of this special activity, individually created façades and streetscapes, numerous installations, performances, concerts and parties will form an interactive urban platform and transform the entire district into a huge gallery and stage. “DEIN VIERTEL. DEINE LEINWAND.” is co-initiated by the Munich-based creative agency david+martin and Red Bull. The artistic consultant is Marco Schwalbe, the founder and managing director of the STROKE Urban Art Fair in Munich. Everybody in Munich has been asking themselves recently what the colourful and sassy posters throughout the city are all about. Amused by the city’s different neighbourhoods, local stars like the bar operators Robinson Kuhlmann and Lukas Motejzik entertainingly criticize the way art and culture are handled in each of these districts. This activity kicks off “DEIN VIERTEL. DEINE LEINWAND.” and calls attention to the upcoming project. From mid July to mid August, the area around Gärtnerplatz – bounded by Müller, Rumford, Buttermelcher, Baader and Fraunhofer Strasse – will be transformed into an art project that people can walk through. For this project, boutiques, bookstores, bars, restaurants and galleries reinterpret their exteriors and their shop windows in collaboration with local artists. For example, starting on 11 July, the Ruby Store will present Stephan Rapke’s moving video installation “IN PENDULUM FASHION”, in which the forces of physics unite with the rhythms of life. Another highlight is the “FEELINGS FOR FOOTWEAR – sneakerworks” sneaker customization by the TINT footwear studio, for which several artists (including Sutra, Christian Hundertmark, Mia Maljojoki and Stephanie Walther) were each given one shoe and asked to transform it into a one-of-a-kind piece. The results will be unveiled on 29 July in the Sneaker Boutique on Klenze Strasse. In addition to this, art in public space will feature exciting interactive live performances such as an interactive staging on a large screen by digital artist Betty Mü and the “Light Painting” by projection specialist Bernhard Rauscher. New events and gallery openings will happen each day, for example: “Live Tape-Art” by Max Zorn, the master of the adhesive tape, at CHICHI; and “Ein Käfig voller Narren”, a live event at Paradiso. The “Sketched Playlist” pencilart event and live DJ set at Tobi’s Kitchen with the artist Markus “Tower” Westermann rounds out the action. davidmartin GmbH | Muellerstraße 44 | 80469 Munich [email protected] | davidundmartin.com | 089-18929476 Press Release The Gärtnerplatz neighbourhood has a long artistic history. Formerly famed as Munich’s gallery district, it’s now also the home of many creative people, artists and advertisers. “One of our goals is to help people perceive this neighbourhood differently. We hope the residents will again appreciate the quality of life and the urban identity of their district. We want people to independently participate in this action and to collaboratively shape their living space. That’s why “DEIN VIERTEL. DEINE LEINWAND.” is more than a series of actions coordinated by us: above all, it’s a call for people to become active themselves”, says David Stephan, one of the two founders of the david+martin creative agency. “From the city. For the city.” is the motto of the “DEIN VIERTEL. DEINE LEINWAND.” project, which is second of its kind for the Munich-based agency. In 2015, david+martin developed and marketed Refugin, a nonprofit gin: all revenues from sales of the gin were donated to the SchlaUSchule, an integration project for young unaccompanied refugees. “DEIN VIERTEL. DEINE LEINWAND.” is made possible by Red Bull, which lends wings to the ideas and dreams of creative people, also in cultural fields, and thus brings together the project’s participants all around Gärtnerplatz. www.deinviertel.de You can find further information, details about all events, and high-resolution photo material at: www.deinviertel.de/presse Contact for journalists: Alexandra Birkel [email protected] 0176 2034 8453 davidmartin GmbH | Muellerstraße 44 | 80469 Munich [email protected] | davidundmartin.com | 089-18929476
