Was beinhaltet dieser Prüfungsteil?
Beim Expressive Reading liest du zunächst einen Text vor und beantwortest im
Anschluss Fragen dazu.
Keine Sorge, wenn beim Vorlesen einige Wörter und deren Betonung für
dich neu sind oder du einzelne Fragen zu den Übungstexten nicht gleich
beantworten kannst – für die Prüfung bekommst du in der Regel zuvor mehrere Texte, die du zu Hause vorbereiten kannst. Einer davon wird dir dann in
der Prüfung vorgelegt. Du solltest mit den Texten, die du von deiner Schule
bekommst, gut vertraut sein – dazu gehört auch, dass du die Bedeutung von
dir unbekannten Wörtern nachschlägst und übst, sie richtig auszusprechen.
Außerdem solltest du den Inhalt der Texte sehr gut kennen.
Die folgenden Beispieltexte sollen dir helfen, den Umgang mit den verschiedenen Textsorten zu erlernen und das Vortragen sowie die Beantwortung
textgebundener Fragen zu üben.

Im Folgenden findest du Beispiele zu den Textarten funny tales („Witze“), nonfictional texts („Sachtexte“) und fables („Fabeln“).
Versuche, die Texte flüssig und gut betont vorzutragen. Lasse dir beim Lesen
Zeit und bemühe dich, gleich möglichst viel vom Inhalt zu verstehen und dir
zu merken.
Decke anschließend den Text ab und versuche, die dazugehörigen Fragen zu
beantworten. Im Lösungsteil kannst du deine Antworten danach kontrollieren.

Text a) Read the text aloud.
One day and one night
One day Harry comes home from the doctor. He’s very depressed
because the doctor told him that he only had one day left to live.
When he talks to his wife about those terrible news, she asks him after
a while, “What do you want to do with the rest of your time?” “I’d like to
spend this time with you,” Harry answers seriously.
So they spend the rest of the day together until it’s four o’clock in the
early morning. Finally Harry’s wife explains that she’s so tired that she
can’t stay awake any more. Harry begs her not to sleep, but she says,
“I have to get up tomorrow, you know? – You don’t.”

Poor grandpa!
It’s the fifth lesson on a hot Wednesday, one week before the summer vacation.
Paul is sitting on his chair in class, starring at the blackboard, but
thinking about what he’ll do during the holidays. Suddenly he startles
because the teacher shouts, “Paul! Wake up from your daydreams
and tell your grandpa to visit me on Thursday during my office hour.”
“O-okay,” Paul babbles, surprised, “but shouldn’t my dad come
instead of my grandpa?”
“No,” the teacher replies, “I want to show your grandpa how many
mistakes his son made in your homework.”
