meine sehr verehrten Gäste,
The German Powerlifting Federation (BVDK) organises international competitions on a frequent
basis. We are now delighted and honoured to have been given the responsibility for this major
sporting event.
Der Bundesverband Deutscher Kraftdreikämpfer (BVDK) war schon mehrfach Ausrichter von internationalen Veranstaltungen.
Der Verband ist nunmehr mit der Ausrichtung einer bedeutenden sportlichen Spitzenveranstaltung beauftragt, worüber wir uns ganz besonders freuen.
On behalf of the German Powerlifting Federation, I issue a warm welcome to all the sportsmen
and women competing in the European Powerlifting Championships. These are to be held at
Messe Chemnitz which is a venue entirely suited to such a high-profile competition.
I wish all contestants the best of luck and a pleasant stay in Chemnitz. I also extend these good
wishes to all the support staff and spectators who will be our guests for the duration of the
championships, and I hope that you will not only see our particular sporting discipline shown in
the best possible light here in Chemnitz but that you will also have the time and opportunity to
maintain existing friendships and make new ones.
I want to thank the city of Chemnitz very much for the hospitality you have displayed towards
us. A special word of thanks goes to Frau Barbara Ludwig, Mayor of Chemnitz and patron of the
championships, and to the whole organising team for the outstanding effort and commitment
without which no event on this scale can be staged. I join with the organising team in hoping
that our guests will spend some exciting but also relaxing days in Chemnitz and that they will
feel inspired to return some time soon.

Zu den Europameisterschaften der Frauen und Männer im Kraftdreikampf darf ich Sie im Namen
des Bundesverbandes Deutscher Kraftdreikämpfer recht herzlich begrüßen und willkommen
heißen.
Die Meisterschaften werden in der Messe in Chemnitz ausgetragen. Dies ist der geeignete
Rahmen für diese hochkarätige Europameisterschaft.
Ich wünsche allen Sportlerinnen und Sportler einen erfolgreichen Wettkampf und einen
angenehmen Aufenthalt in Chemnitz. In diese Wünsche möchte ich auch alle Gäste dieser
Meisterschaft einschließen, und ich hoffe, dass Ihnen hier in Chemnitz nicht nur eine gelungene
Demonstration unserer Sportart geboten wird, sondern dass Sie auch Zeit und Gelegenheit
finden, bestehende Freundschaften zu pflegen und neue zu knüpfen.
Ich möchte an dieser Stelle der Stadt Chemnitz ganz herzlich für Ihre Gastfreundschaft danken,
und mein Dank gilt insbesondere Frau Barbara Ludwig, Oberbürgermeisterin von Chemnitz und
Schirmherrin der Meisterschaft, und dem gesamten Organisations-Team für das herausragende
Engagement, ohne welches eine solche Meisterschaft nicht durchgeführt werden kann. Ich hoffe
mit dem Organisationsteam, dass unsere Gäste erlebnisreiche und gleichermaßen erholsame

Grußwort
It is a pleasure to welcome you all to the 38th European Open Powerlifting Championships here
in Chemnitz!
Es ist mir eine große Freude, Sie alle bei den 38. Europameisterschaften im Kraftdreikampf der
Aktiven hier in Chemnitz begrüßen zu dürfen!
The European Powerlifting Federation (EPF) was instituted in 1977 in Turku, Finland and the very
first European Powerlifting Championships were organised in Birmingham, Great Britain in 1978.
In 38 years, EPF has grown to the strongest Region within the International Powerlifting Federation with about 35 member nations. Each year, 7 different European Powerlifting and Bench
Press championships (for different age categories) are organised with more than 900 athletes.
Die European Powerlifting Federation (EPF) wurde 1977 in Turku (Finnland) gegründet und veranstaltete bereits ein Jahr später im britischen Birmingham die ersten Europameisterschaften im
Kraftdreikampf. In den 38 Jahren ihres Bestehens hat sich die EPF mit ihren rund 35 Mitgliedsnationen zum stärksten Kontinentalverband innerhalb der International Powerlifting Federation
entwickelt. Jedes Jahr finden sieben verschiedene Europameisterschaften im Kraftdreikampf
und Bankdrücken (für unterschiedliche Altersklassen) mit mehr als 900 Athletinnen und Athleten
statt.
The main European powerlifting championship each year is the European Open for Men and
Women and EPF is very pleased that this year Germany took on the organization.
The German Powerlifting Federation, headed by President Detlev Albrings, is an experienced
organiser of European powerlifting championships. I am sure this fact will reflect the high technical standard we will meet at this championship.
On behalf of the EPF, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the German Powerlifting
Federation for inviting powerlifting athletes and officials to Chemnitz!
During these competition days, we will see powerlifting performances of highest international
class and, most likely, several new European and World records broken.
I wish athletes and officials great success and I wish the organising people GOOD LUCK with the
organisation!
Den Höhepunkt des europäischen Wettkampfkalenders im Kraftdreikampf bilden in jedem
Jahr die Europameisterschaften der Aktiven. Die EPF freut sich sehr, dass dieses Event 2015 in
Deutschland ausgerichtet wird.
Der Bundesverband Deutscher Kraftdreikämpfer unter Präsident Detlev Albrings hat bereits viel
Erfahrung bei der Ausrichtung von Europameisterschaften im Kraftdreikampf sammeln können.
Ich bin überzeugt, dass auch diese Meisterschaften wieder perfekt organisiert sein und höchste
Standards setzen werden.
Im Namen der EPF möchte ich mich beim Bundesverband Deutscher Kraftdreikämpfer herzlich für
die Einladung der Sportlerinnen und Sportler sowie der Offiziellen nach Chemnitz bedanken!
In den nächsten Tagen dürfen wir uns auf Kraftdreikampf auf höchstem internationalen Niveau
freuen. Und vielleicht erleben wir sogar, wie einige neue Europa- bzw. Weltrekorde aufgestellt
werden.

A message from the Minister of the Interior
Grußwort
“What is powerlifting?” I am sure that you, the contestants in these championships, have been
asked this question many times by your friends and acquaintances. And I admit that I too had to
ask for an explanation of what exactly your particular sport involves.
„Was ist Kraftdreikampf“? Diese Frage haben Sie, die Sportlerinnen und Sportler, in Ihrem
Freundes- und Bekanntenkreis sicherlich schon oft gehört. Und auch ich habe mich erst einmal
erkundigt, worum es eigentlich genau bei Ihrer Sportart geht.
I discovered that it requires discipline, perseverance and passion. It is a tough sport. Powerlifters
train over a long period at a high level of intensi­ty in preparation for what may amount to less
than half an hour on the platform. You are always at the limit of your strength, and sometimes
the challenge proves to be too much. The applause for a successful lift is well deserved and
is generously given even by the other competitors. For me, it is still hard to comprehend how
someone can perform squats with four or five times their own body weight resting on their
shoulders. I have immense respect for this kind of sporting excellence.
Beim Kraftdreikampf zählen Disziplin, Durchhaltewillen und Leidenschaft. Es ist ein harter Sport.
Die Kraftsportlerinnen und Kraftsportler trainieren lange Zeit mit hoher Intensität, um beim
Wettkampf oft weniger als eine halbe Stunde auf der Plattform zu stehen.
Manchmal ist die Aufgabe zu schwer, immer ist man im Grenzbereich seiner Kräfte. Der Applaus
für einen erfolgreichen Wettkampf ist Ehrensache – auch unter Konkurrenten.
Für mich bleibt es schwer vorstellbar, dass ein Mensch mit dem vier- oder fünffachen seines
Körpergewichts auf den Schultern Kniebeugen macht. Vor dieser sportlichen Leistung habe ich
großen Respekt.
For many active proponents, powerlifting is a lifetime passion – once they get into it, they will
carry on for as long as they have the physical strength. It is wonderful that Chemnitz on behalf of
the whole of Germany has the honour of hosting the 2015 European Championships and that this
major event is bringing your sport to a wider audience.
For all the contestants, organisers, hosts and visitors, I hope that these championships provide
a further stimulus for your sport and are remembered for new superlatives in performance. For
the powerlifters in particular, I wish you much strength as you compete against each other. I also
wish the fans and support staff an exciting spectacle and that all visitors to Chemnitz enjoy the
next few eventful days.
Der Kraftdreikampf ist für viele Aktiven die Sportart ihres Lebens. Sie haben einmal damit
begonnen und werden ihren Sport so lange betreiben, wie es geht. Es ist schön, das Deutschland
mit Chemnitz den Zuschlag für die Ausrichtung der Europameisterschaft 2015 erhalten hat und
Ihr Sport mit einer Spitzenveranstaltung eine größere Bühne bekommt.
Ich wünsche allen Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern, dem Veranstalter, Gastgeber und allen
Besuchern, dass die EM Ihrer Sportart neue Impulse und Sportliche Höchstleistungen bringt. Den
Sportlerinnen und Sportlern wünsche ich viel Kraft bei den Wettkämpfen, den Zuschauern und
Betreuern Freude an den sportlichen Höchstleistungen und allen Gästen erlebnisreiche Tage in
Chemnitz.

I warmly welcome you to the European Powerlifting Championships here at Messe Chemnitz.
ich begrüße Sie herzlich zur Europameisterschaft im Kraftdreikampf in der Messe Chemnitz.
A contest at European level is always a special occasion: the athletes are competing in an international arena, and it gives us the opportunity to show visitors that Chemnitz is a cosmopolitan
and hospitable city that welcomes people from other countries. I am grateful for this opportunity
and honoured to assume patronage.
Eine EM ist immer etwas Besonderes. Athleten präsentieren sich international. Wir können
unseren Gästen zeigen, dass Chemnitz eine weltoffene und gastfreundliche Stadt ist, die Menschen aus anderen Ländern Willkommen heißt. Für diese Möglichkeit bin ich dankbar und habe
deshalb sehr gern die Schirmherrschaft übernommen.
My thanks go to BSC Rapid Chemnitz who are hosting the European Championships. For the club,
it is the second major event this year. In March, they organised the German Table Tennis Championship, which turned out to be very popular indeed. No fewer than 6,000 fans followed this
sporting spectacle over three days at Messe Chemnitz. I now wish the organisers every success
with the European Powerlifting Championships.
Mein Dank geht an den BSC Rapid Chemnitz, der die Europameisterschaft ausrichtet. Für den
Verein ist es bereits die zweite Großveranstaltung in diesem Jahr. Im März organisierte er die
Deutsche Meisterschaft im Tischtennis. Und das mit großem Erfolg. Insgesamt 6.000 Zuschauer
verfolgten an drei Tagen das Geschehen in der Messe Chemnitz. Ich wünsche den Organisatoren,
dass sie mit der Europameisterschaft im Kraftdreikampf ebenfalls ein gutes Resultat erzielen.
The sport has a great following here in Chemnitz, and the weightlifters of the Chemnitzer
Athletenclub (CAC) have brought back many national championship titles to the city over the
years. The biggest success to date for Chemnitz-based athletes in strength sports was celebrated
by Matthias Steiner at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing where he became Germany’s first
Olympic weightlifting champion in 16 years – what a great achievement!
Kraftsportbegeisterte Zuschauer gibt es in Chemnitz. Und mit den Gewichthebern des Chemnitzer
Athletenclubs (CAC) haben wir einen mehrmaligen Deutschen Meister. Den bisher größten
Erfolg für einen Chemnitzer Athleten im Kraftsport feierte Matthias Steiner, bei den Olympischen
Spielen in Peking 2008. Er wurde der erste deutsche Olympiasieger im Gewichtheben seit 16
Jahren – ein großartiger Erfolg.
We are also keeping our fingers crossed for two home-grown female powerlifters – Nicole
Fydrich and Vivien Röder. But we obviously wish the best of luck to all other contestants and are
confident that the spectators are about to witness some thrilling action.
Wir drücken den zwei Chemnitzer Athletinnen Nicole Fydrich und Vivien Röder besonders die
Daumen. Aber auch allen weiteren Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern wünschen wir bestmögliche Erfolge und den Zuschauern spannende Wettkämpfe.
