HISTORY OF
KHERSON REGION
In the 3 early 2 thousand years B.C., the steppe
territory was inhabited by cattle-breeding tribes.
In the 6 – 3 centuries B.C., the Scythians tribes
occupied the territory and formed their own state Scythia.
in the 9 century the Dnieper River became
a part of trade ways “from the Varangians
to the Greeks”. The access to the Black Sea
was opened.
When Zaporozhskaya Sech was founded,
the Cossacks began inhabiting
the low Dnieper area.
