WHERE IS MONT ROCHELLE?

Mont Rochelle is located in Franschhoek, a traditional vineyard town
in the Western Cape Province in South Africa. Known as the French
corner of the Cape, Franschhoek is considered to be the food and
wine capital of South Africa. The property is 45 minutes’ drive from
Cape Town and within 35 minutes’ drive of Stellenbosch, Paarl and
Somerset West wine routes.

There are 22 bedrooms at Mont Rochelle including six spacious
suites, and the grounds cover 39 hectares (about 100 acres). The
property also has two restaurants, a cosy bar, a spa, a gym and an
outdoor pool. And not forgetting a 37 hectare vineyard with wine
cellar of course!

HOW DO I GET TH ERE?
Access to Mont Rochelle is via Cape Town International Airport
which serves destinations throughout South Africa and has direct
connections to some of the key European and Middle East hubs,
with flight times ranging from 10 to 12 hours. Flights from the US
east coast take roughly 22 hours transiting via Johannesburg.
WHEN’S THE BEST TIME TO VISIT?
Any time you like. Don’t forget South Africa’s position in the
southern hemisphere means the warmest months are from
November to March, however the average daytime high rarely
drops below 15°C/60°F.

DINING AT MONT ROCHELLE
There are plenty of options for dining at Mont Rochelle, from picnics in the
great outdoors to relaxed lunches in our wine cellar kitchen to gourmet
dining at our main restaurant. You can also order a refreshing cocktail from
our bar and find a comfy space on the terrace to watch the sun set.
A BIT OF HISTORY
Prior to 2009 Mont Rochelle Hotel was jointly owned by Erwin
Schnitzler and majority shareholder Miko Rwayitare. Mr Rwayitare was the
first black owner of a vineyard in South Africa and the premium wine was
named after him.
VISITING SOUTH AFRICA
Many visitors to South Africa choose to combine a trip to the Cape Town
region with a safari experience in the country’s northeast, and of course we
recommend Ulusaba, our private game reserve in the Sabi Sand Reserve.
You can wake up for morning game drive at Ulusaba and be at Mont
Rochelle in time for pre-dinner drinks!
MORE ABOUT FRANSCHHOEK
The area around Franschhoek, which in the Afrikaans language means
‘French corner’, was as the name suggests once a French enclave when
over 300 years ago a group of Huguenot settlers arrived fleeing religious
persecution. That influence, which nestled right alongside the larger
Dutch-speaking community, is what gives the region such a rich and varied
history, and unsurprisingly, a taste for fine food and wine!

Mont Rochelle can be booked for exclusive use for up to 44 guests sharing
22 rooms and suites – it’s an ideal setting for a wedding, a special birthday
or any type of gathering where you might like the place to yourself!
Exclusive use rates start from ZAR 105,080 ($9,377) during low season and
ZAR 148,520 ($13,254) during high season. Please contact us for enquiries

These are quoted per room, per night and priced in South African
Rand (ZAR). They include accommodation, 14% VAT and a South African
Tourism Bed Levy. Flights and transfers to Mont Rochelle are not included.
