I Press Release 25 Years Fall of the Wall – Anniversary Project Key Facts (as of 15.09.2014) I LICHTGRENZE The central event will be the light installation LICHTGRENZE ("border of light") where heliumfilled balloons will be illuminated along the former course of the Berlin Wall through the city centre. Installation dates: 7–9 November 2014 Length: 15.3 km Route: Bornholmer Straße / Bösebrücke – Mauerpark – Bernauer Straße / Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer – Brandenburger Tor – Potsdamer Platz – Checkpoint Charlie – East Side Gallery / Oberbaumbrücke. These will also be the gathering spots for the public. Audience areas: The seven central gathering spots (audience areas) for the commemoration will offer information, guided tours, souvenirs, viewpoints, catering and big video screens showing historical footage from the Wall's initial construction to its eventual demolition (Title: "Pieces of the Wall"). All of the audience areas will be in operation throughout the weekend (with the exception of Bornholmer Straße, which will operate only on Sunday, 9 November). Live broadcasts on rbb radio stations. Number of balloons: approx. 8,000 Facts about the balloons: each balloon and the pole it will be attached to will stand 3.40m, have a diameter of 60 cm and weigh 23 kg. They will be made of 100 per cent biodegradable material. I Balloon Patrons Each balloon will have a patron. An initiative of the Robert-Havemann-Gesellschaft, circ and Kulturprojekte. On-site patron support: SCC Events GmbH Balloon patrons are responsible for handling the balloons and ensuring their release between approx. 5.00 and 8.00 pm. More than 100 non-profit organisations, associations, initiatives and companies will be supplying the balloon patrons. The Protestant church will be the largest group with 3,000 patrons. Appeal on the radio programmes of Radio Berlin-Brandenburg (Inforadio, Radioeins, Fritz, RadioBERLIN 88.8 und Antenne Brandenburg) around 3 October. Individuals can also apply to serve as patrons. All of the names and personal stories of the balloon patrons will be published at www.fallofthewall25.com, a website managed by Facebook.
