Apetrots zijn wij om eindelijk onze stad en de 21e editie
van de Europese Bedrijfssportspelen aan u te kunnen
voorstellen.
Nous avons l’immense fierté de pouvoir enfin vous
présenter notre ville et la 21e édition des Jeux Européens
du Sport d’Entreprise.
Sinds de vroege middeleeuwen is Gent een open plaats
van handel en ontmoeting. Die rijke geschiedenis
weerspiegelt zich in het veelgeprezen, historische karakter
van de stadskern.
Depuis le début du Moyen Âge, Gand est un lieu ouvert
de commerce et de rencontre. La richesse de son passé se
reflète dans le sublime caractère historique du
centre-ville.
De geschiedenis van de stad als trefpunt tekent zich ook
af in het karakter van de Gentenaars, gekend om hun
gastvrijheid, warmte en eigenwijze attitude. Bourgondiërs
ook - aan fijne cafés, bistro’s en restaurants in Gent geen
gebrek. De stad biedt bovendien tal van
verblijfsmogelijkheden met haar vele hotels, B&B’s,
jeugdherbergen...
L’histoire de la ville en tant que lieu de rencontre
s’exprime aussi dans le caractère des Gantois, réputés
pour leur hospitalité, leur chaleur et leur affabilité
légendaire. Pour leur côté bon vivant aussi – ce ne sont
pas les cafés, bistrots et autres restaurants qui manquent
à Gand. La ville recèle en outre des possibilités de séjour
grâce à ses nombreux hôtels, B&B, auberges de jeunesse...
Historisch en authentiek aan de oppervlakte, bruisend
binnenin. Met één van de grootste universiteiten in
België, is Gent uitgegroeid tot stad van kennis en cultuur.
In toenemende mate een broedplaats voor jonge
ondernemers en creatieven. Door UNESCO werd de stad
erkend als ‘Creative City for Music’.
Historique et authentique en surface, bouillonnante à
l’intérieur. Forte de l’une des plus grandes universités de
Belgique, Gand est aussi devenue une ville de culture et
de connaissance. Ainsi que, de plus en plus, un terreau
fertile pour jeunes entrepreneurs et talents créatifs.
La ville a même été désignée ‘Ville Créative de Musique‘
par l’UNESCO.
Ook op vlak van sport beweegt iets in Gent. De laatste
jaren werd fors geïnvesteerd in de uitbouw van
kwalitatieve sportinfrastructuur. Het stadsbestuur blijft
hierop inzetten, onder meer via samenwerking met
publieke en private partners. Het aanbod van
sportinfrastructuur is één van de grootste van
Vlaanderen. Voor de meeste sporttakken is er wel een
accommodatie in of rond de stadskern, wij beschouwen
dit als een sterke troef voor een groot evenement als dit.
En matière de sport également, on peut dire que ça
bouge à Gand. Ces dernières années, la ville a
massivement investi dans le développement
d’infrastructures sportives de qualité. Les pouvoirs locaux
poursuivent leurs efforts, notamment via des partenariats
publiques-privés. L’offre d’infrastructures sportives est
l’une des plus étoffées de Flandre. La plupart des
disciplines sportives disposent d’installations au
centre-ville ou à ses alentours, ce qui apparaît à nos yeux
comme un précieux atout pour l’organisation d’un
événement d’une telle ampleur.

Het Gentse sportbeleid heeft ook een sterk sociale inslag.
Sport verbindt mensen en kan een hefboom vormen om
maatschappelijke uitdagingen aan te gaan. 17.000 jonge
sporters maken gratis gebruik van de stedelijke
sportinfrastructuur. Maar ook vele andere doelgroepen
zijn graag geziene gasten in onze accommodaties.
Bedrijfssporters horen daar zeker bij!
La politique gantoise en matière de sport a aussi un
grand impact social. Le sport unit les gens et peut servir
de levier pour relever les défis sociétaux. 17 000 jeunes
sportifs utilisent gratuitement les infrastructures
sportives de la ville. Mais bien d’autres groupes cibles
sont aussi les bienvenus dans nos installations, comme
les sportifs en entreprise!
De Vlaamse Liga van Bedrijfssport (VLB) heeft heel
bewust en met reden voor Gent gekozen als gaststad
voor de eerste Europese Bedrijfssportspelen in België. De
federatie is al jaren begeesterd door het organiseren van
dit evenement. Met het ganse bestuur,
medewerkersteam en het stadsbestuur van Gent zijn de
voorbereidingen al volop bezig.
Ce n’est pas un hasard si la Ligue Flamande du Sport
d’Entreprise (VLB) a choisi Gand pour accueillir les
premiers Jeux Européens du Sport d’Entreprise en
Belgique. La fédération est, depuis des années, motivée
pour organiser cet événement. Les préparatifs vont déjà
bon train avec notre conseil d’administration, l’équipe
de collaborateurs et l’administration communale de
Gand.
Het sportaanbod zal naast de klassieke sporten ook een
aantal minder gekende sporten of activiteiten bevatten.
Met haar jarenlange ervaring gaat VLB de uitdaging van
vernieuwing en variatie niet uit de weg.
Outre les sports classiques, l’offre sportive comportera
aussi quelques activités ou sports moins connus. Forte
de sa longue expérience, la VLB ne craint pas le défi de
l’innovation et de la diversité.
Samen zijn wij vereerd en fier om van 21 tot 25 juni 2017
uw gastheer te mogen zijn voor deze unieke
bedrijfssportspelen.
Ensemble, nous serons fiers et honorés de pouvoir vous
accueillir du 21 au 25 juin 2017 pour ces jeux du sport
d’entreprise exclusifs.

XXI èmes Jeux Européens du Sport
d’Entreprise 2017
Drie jaar geleden werd de stad Gent verkozen tot trotse
gaststad voor de volgende zomereditie van de Europese
Bedrijfssportspelen. De Vlaamse Liga van Bedrijfssport legt
haar hart en ziel in de organisatie van deze zomerspelen
en laat niets aan het toeval over.
Il y a déjà trois ans que la ville de Gand a eu le privilège
d’être choisie pour recevoir les prochains Jeux Européens
du Sport d’Entreprise d’Eté. Ces trois années ont été mises
à profit pour travailler avec précision les contours de cette
future édition qui fait l’objet de toute l’attention de la
dynamique Ligue Flamande du Sport d’Entreprise.
GENT
De keuze voor de stad Gent is gebaseerd op een sterke en
voorbeeldige kandidaatstelling. Het uitzonderlijke
engagement van de Vlaamse Liga en de immense inzet van
het stadsbestuur voor dit dossier garanderen u een
ontvangst in de beste omstandigheden.
Dit grootse evenement brengt bedrijfssporters samen uit
de veertig aangesloten landen van de Europese
Bedrijfssportfederatie (EFCS) en staat in het teken van
sportieve loyaliteit en gezelligheid. Bij zo’n gebeurtenis in
de stad van Jacques Rogge mag u rekenen op de Belgische
professionaliteit en ervaring met grote spelen.
Naast het competitiegebeuren bieden de Europese
Bedrijfssportspelen 2017 u ook de kans om de
geboortestad van Karel V te ontdekken. Maak er kennis
met de rijke architectuur, het rijke verleden en het rijke
heden… Waar Leie en Schelde in alle rust samenvloeien,
wacht u een mooi avontuur.
Ik nodig u dan ook massaal uit voor deze 21e Europese
Bedrijfssportspelen, hét Europese sportevenement van
2017.
Afspraak op 21 juni 2017 voor de start van deze
fantastische zomerspelen in Gent. Graag tot dan!

Lorsque la ville de Gand a été élue, ce fut sur la base d’une
candidature solide et exemplaire. L’engagement total de la
Ligue Flamande et la volonté au plus haut niveau de la
municipalité de porter ce dossier sont la garantie que tout
sera mis en œuvre pour vous recevoir dans des conditions
optimales.
Ce grand rassemblement accueillera les sportifs des
entreprises des quarante pays membres de la Fédération
Européenne du Sport d’Entreprise et sera placée sous le
double signe d’une pratique loyale et conviviale. Une telle
compétition, dans la ville de Jacques Rogge, trouvera tout
son sens dans le professionnalisme et l’expérience des
grands événements de l’organisation belge.
En faisant le choix de participer à ces Jeux, vous aurez
l’occasion de découvrir la ville natale de Charles Quint,
riche de son architecture, riche de son passé, riche de son
présent, qui a décidé de vous accueillir au confluent de la
Lys et de l’Escaut dans la douceur de son port.
Ainsi je vous invite à vous engager massivement. En étant
présent pour ces XXI èmes Jeux Européens du Sport
d’Entreprise, vous aurez l’honneur de participer à
l’événement européen 2017 du Sport.

Toegegeven, Gent is niet de grootste metropool van
Europa, maar weinig plekken in ons deel van de wereld
zijn zo historisch geladen, cultureel hedendaags en
verleidelijk sfeervol als de Arteveldestad. Sinds
Lonely Planet Gent ‘Europa’s best bewaarde geheim’
noemde, blijft de stad opduiken in lijstjes van favoriete
‘onder de radar’-bestemmingen op gerenommeerde
reiswebsites.

Il faut bien admettre que Gand n’est pas la plus grande
métropole d’Europe, mais peu d’endroits dans notre
partie du monde allient aussi bien passé historique,
modernité culturelle et ambiance fascinante que la ville
d’Artevelde. Depuis que Lonely Planet a qualifié Gand
de « secret le mieux gardé d’Europe », la ville ne cesse
d’apparaître sur les listes des destinations favorites
méconnues de sites de voyages renommés.
Gent heeft alles om te bekoren: een rijke geschiedenis,
boeiende musea, een indrukwekkend aantal
authentieke bezienswaardigheden en een bruisend
stadscentrum vol gezellige winkels en hippe horeca.
Dat alles ligt op een steenworp van elkaar.
Gand a tout pour plaire : un riche passé, des musées
passionnants, un nombre impressionnant de curiosités
authentiques et un centre-ville trépidant, bondé de
charmants commerces et d’établissements horeca
branchés. Le tout dans un rayon restreint.
Nog een uitsmijter: de centrale ligging van Gent
binnen Europa. Vanuit Europese steden als Amsterdam,
Londen, Parijs en Keulen sta je op minder dan drie uur
in Vlaanderen, het noordelijke deel van België. Daar ligt
Gent pal tussen de andere topbestemmingen in, wat de
stad tot een ideale uitvalsbasis maakt voor een bezoek
aan andere Vlaamse kunststeden.
Last but not least is er de open sfeer en de aangename
mix van inwoners en bezoekers. De stad doet
inspanningen om het iedereen naar de zin te maken,
ook de 70.000 studenten die Gent van een jonge vibe
voorzien.
Et cerise sur le gâteau : la situation centrale de Gand au
sein de l’Europe. Au départ de villes européennes
comme Amsterdam, Londres, Paris et Cologne, on
arrive en moins de trois heures en Flandre, la partie
nord de la Belgique. Gand se trouve juste au centre
des autres destinations phares, faisant de la ville un
point de départ idéal pour visiter les autres villes d’art
flamandes.
Enfin, last but not least, citons le climat d’ouverture et
le mélange sympathique d’habitants et de visiteurs. La
ville ne lésine pas sur les efforts pour contenter tout le
monde, y compris les 70.000 étudiants qui font vibrer
Gand.

In Gent is er altijd iets te doen. Is er geen groot
evenement zoals de Gentse Feesten, Gent Jazz,
FilmFest Gent en Festival van Vlaanderen
aan de gang, dan vindt er wel een klein festival
plaats.
Jaarlijks weerkerende sportieve toppers zijn
de wielerwedstrijden de Lotto Z6sdaagse
Vlaanderen-Gent en Omloop

et autres événements
Lichtplan en Lichtfestival
À Gand, il y a toujours quelque chose à faire.
Un grand événement comme les Fêtes de Gand
en cours ? Il y a alors certainement aussi
un petit festival dans les parages. Du côté des
grands.
Des rendez-vous sportifs de haut niveau qui
reviennent chaque année sont les courses
cyclistes Lotto Z6sdaagse Vlaanderen-Gent et du
Circuit Het Nieuwsblad.
Gent krijgt na zonsondergang een ander
gezicht met het bekroonde lichtplan van de
stad. Om de drie jaar vormt het Lichtfestival in
de winterperiode (volgende editie 2018) een
heuse trekker.

Plan d’éclairage
et Festival de la lumière
Au coucher du soleil, Gand se métamorphose
grâce au plan d’éclairage de la ville, déjà
récompensé. Tous les trois ans, le Festival de
la lumière attire les foules pendant la saison
hivernale (prochaine édition en 2018).

Culinair Gent
Een stad laat zich niet alleen bezoeken,
maar ook proeven. Gent weet zich steeds
meer culinair op de kaart te zetten, als
veggiehoofdstad van Europa en omdat
creatieve, jonge topkoks er restaurants
openen. Er is voor elk wat wils in de bijna
400 eetgelegenheden die Gent telt. Volg je
instinct!
Van alle culinaire specialiteiten uit de
streek is de Gentse Waterzooi ongetwijfeld
het bekendste. In de middeleeuwen werd
deze soep met vis bereid, later werd de vis
vervangen door kip. Maar er is zoveel
meer: het in Gent gebrouwen bier Gruut en
andere kleine bieren, de vele soorten
originele pralines, de vlierbloesemdrank
RoomeR, de mosterd Tierenteyn…

Gand culinaire
Une ville ne se laisse pas seulement visiter,
elle se laisse aussi savourer. Gand a
su récemment se profiler sur la carte
culinaire, en tant que capitale européenne
du végétarisme. Et depuis peu, plusieurs
jeunes grands chefs créatifs y ont ouvert un
restaurant. Il y a près de 400 restaurants…
suivez votre intuition!
Le waterzooi gantois est sans conteste la
spécialité gastronomique régionale la plus
célèbre. Au Moyen Âge, cette soupe était
préparée avec le poisson pêché dans la Lys
et l’Escaut. Le poisson sera ensuite remplacé
par du poulet. Mais ce n’est pas tout : la bière
Gruut, brassée à Gand, et d’autres petites
bières, les nombreuses variétés de pralines
originales, la boisson à base de fleurs de
sureau RoomeR, la moutarde Tierenteyn…

Blaarmeersen
De Blaarmeersen is de groene long van de
stad Gent bij uitstek en is vlak bij het oude
centrum gelegen. Het is een uitgebreid gebied
met voorzieningen voor vele verschillende
sporten. Dit gaat van klassieke sporten zoals
voetbal, atletiek, beachvolleybal, tennis tot
alternatievere sporten zoals rugby, inlineskate
en kajak.
Als sport- en recreatiepark biedt het ook
heel wat mogelijkheden voor de wandelaars,
zonnekloppers en levensgenieters. Met een
wandeling langs het meer inclusief rustpauze op
het strand zijn vele zomerdagen vlot te vullen.
Blaarmeersen
Blaarmeersen est le poumon vert par excellence
de la ville de Gand, à une encablure du centre
historique. Cette vaste zone propose des
infrastructures pour de nombreux sports
différents, des classiques comme le football,
l’athlétisme, le beach-volley ou le tennis aux
sports plus alternatifs comme le rugby, le roller
et le kayak.
Op de Blaarmeersen bevinden zich meerdere
andere voorzieningen zoals het Vlaams
Wielercentrum Eddy Merckx, Topsporthal
Vlaanderen, de Biover Klimzaal en de
Watersportbaan.

Parc des sports et de récréation, Blaarmeersen
offre également une foule de possibilités
pour les promeneurs, les fans de soleil et les
épicuriens. Une promenade le long du lac, une
pause sur la plage et les journées d’été seront
bien remplies.
Le parc Blaarmeersen compte plusieurs autres
infrastructures comme le Centre Cycliste Eddy
Merckx, le Hall de sport de haut niveau Flandre,
le salle d’escalade Biover et la Watersportbaan
pour les sports nautiques.

Salle d’escalade Biover
La salle d’escalade Biover est un centre d’escalade
aventureux situé dans le Blaarmeersen. C’est l’une
des plus grandes salles d’escalade du monde :
2 salles d’escalade indoor de 16,5 et 14,5 mètres
de haut.
Outre les équipements indoor, un mur d’escalade
couvert outdoor offre en été une alternative
idéale.
Klimzaal Biover
Klimzaal Biover is een avontuurlijk klimcentrum
dat zich bevindt op de Blaarmeersen. Het is één
van de grootste klimzalen ter wereld. Indoor
zijn er 2 klimzalen, die 16,5 en 14,5 meter hoog
zijn.
Naast de indoorfaciliteiten is er een overdekte
outdoor klimwand die in de zomer een ideaal
alternatief biedt.
Topsporthal Vlaanderen
Sport op topniveau in de Topsporthal Vlaanderen.
Dit sportmekka is gebouwd met als doel plaats
te bieden aan sport van nationaal, Europees
en wereldniveau. Het is een ultramoderne,
multifunctionele hal die een capaciteit heeft van
meer dan 5.000 mensen.

Du sport de haut niveau dans le hall de sport de
haut niveau Flandre. Cette Mecque du sport a
été aménagée au profit du sport niveau national,
européen et mondial. Le hall ultramoderne et
multifonctionnel peut accueillir 5.000 personnes.

Watersportbaan
La Watersportbaan Gantoise est l’infrastructure
par excellence pour l’aviron. Plusieurs
compétitions d’aviron y sont organisées chaque
année.
Le plan d’eau est en outre utilisé par différentes
associations de kayak. La Watersportbaan est
entourée d’une piste finlandaise de 5 km, très
prisée par les athlètes gantois.
‘t Kuipke
La principale salle de cyclisme indoor, qui
accueille chaque année la prestigieuse course
des 6 jours de Gand. Outre le cyclisme, cette salle
abrite également toute une palette d’événements
organisés à l’intérieur du centre Gantois.

Watersportbaan
De Gentse Watersportbaan is de voorziening
bij uitstek voor de roeisport. Er worden jaarlijks
meerdere roeiwedstrijden op georganiseerd.
Het water wordt verder ook gebruikt door
verschillende kajakverenigingen. Rond de
Watersportbaan bevindt zich een 5 km lange Finse
piste die zeer populair is bij de Gentse lopers.
‘t Kuipke
De belangrijkste indoor wielerpiste die elk jaar
de prestigieuze 6-daagse van Gent ontvangt. De
zaal is behalve voor wielrennen ook de locatie
voor een waaier aan evenementen die in het
hartje van het Gentse centrum georganiseerd
worden.

Ghelamco Arena
De thuishaven van voetbalclub KAA Gent - het
Ghelamco stadion - is een multifunctionele
voetbaltempel met een capaciteit van 20.000
personen. Het complex werd in 2013 geopend.

S&R Sportcomplex Rozebroeken
Complexe sportif S&R Rozebroeken
Rozebroeken is een multifunctioneel
sportcomplex met plaats voor competitieve
sporten en vrijetijdsbeweging. Het beschikt
over verschillende zwembaden – een Olympisch
zwembad, een subtropisch zwembad – en
faciliteiten voor vele andere sporten zoals dansen,
vechtsporten, gymnastiek, balsporten…
Rozebroeken est un complexe sportif
multifonctionnel pouvant accueillir des sports
de compétition et des baignades récréatives. Il
dispose de différents bassins de natation – une
piscine olympique, une piscine tropicale – et
d’équipements pour bien d’autres sports comme
la danse, les sports de combat, la gymnastique, les
sports de ballon…

Centre Cycliste Flamand Eddy Merckx
Une piste cycliste de haut vol située dans le
domaine Blaarmeersen. Le Centre Cycliste
Flamand Eddy Merckx peut accueillir jusqu’à

Les frais de participation aux Jeux Européens du
Sport d’Entreprise sont de 180 EUR par personne.
Le Centre International de Conférences de Gand
(ICC) sera le cœur même des Jeux. De par sa
situation centrale, il sera le port d’attache où
tous les participants se rejoindront avant et après
les compétitions et où ils prendront leur repas
ensemble le soir venu.
Les frais de participation comprennent:
• la participation à une ou plusieurs disciplines
sportives
• 4 repas à l’ ICC
• la participation aux cérémonies d’ouverture et
de clôture et aux fêtes organisées après les
compétitions
• l’utilisation gratuite des transports en commun

The International Convention Center Ghent (ICC)
will be the beating heart of the Games, centrally
located and a hub where participants gather
before and after competitions and where they
will meet to enjoy their dinners.
The participation fee for the European Company
Sport Games 2017 will be 180 EUR per person.
The participation fee includes:

• 4 evening meals in the ICC
• participation in opening and closing ceremony
and after-parties
• free use of Ghent’s public transport network.

The Ghent Watersportbaan is the ultimate
location for anyone who loves rowing. Every
year, several rowing competitions are held
here. The lake is also used by various kayaking
organisations and it is surrounded by a 5 km
Finnish track, which is very popular among

This is the main indoor cycling hall, that hosts the
Six Days of Ghent, a prestigious yearly event. The

The Biover climbing centre – one of the largest
in the world – is the place to be for adventurous
climbers. Indoors there are two climbing halls
that are 16.5 and 14.5 metres high.
Besides the indoor facilities there is a covered

21st edition of the 2017 European
Company Sport Games
Three years ago, Ghent had the privilege of being chosen
as host city for the next summer edition of the European
Company Sport Games. The Flemish Federation for
Company Sport has spent these three years working
tirelessly to organise this upcoming event.
Die Stadt Gent wurde bereits vor drei Jahren zum
Austragungsort der nächsten Europäischen
Betriebssport- Sommerspiele gewählt. Die Flämische
Betriebssportliga hat sich voll und ganz der Organisation
dieser Sommerspiele gewidmet und überlässt nichts dem
Zufall.

Die Stadt Gent wurde aufgrund einer starken und
beispielhaften Bewerbung gewählt. Das volle Engagement
des Flämische Betriebssportliga und der Wille auf höchster
kommunaler Ebene, dieses Vorhaben zu tragen, sind
Garant dafür, dass alles daran gesetzt wird, Sie unter
optimalen Bedingungen empfangen zu können.
Im Rahmen dieses Großereignisses im Zeichen der Fairness
und Gastfreundlichkeit kommen die Betriebssportler der
vierzig Mitgliedländer des Europaïschen
Betriebssportverband zusammen. Bei der Austragung
eines solchen Events in der Stadt von Jacques Rogge
können Sie mit der belgischen Professionalität und
Erfahrung in der Ausrichtung von Großveranstaltungen
rechnen.

The choice of Ghent as the host city was made on the
basis of its solid and exemplary application. The strong
commitment of the Flemish Federation for Company Sport,
and the city council’s drive to succeed, guarantee that you
will be welcomed with open arms and hosted in the very
best conditions.
This major event will attract company athletes from the
forty member countries of the European Federation for
Company Sport, who will compete in an event
characterised by fun and team spirit in the home city of
former International Olympic Committee president
Jacques Rogge. Needless to say, you can rely on the
Flemish Federation’s professional approach and its
experience in organising major events.
By participating in these games, you will have the
opportunity to discover the city where Charles V was born,

Die Genter Sportpolitik zeichnet sich auch durch ihre sehr
soziale Seite aus. Sport verbindet Menschen miteinander
und kann als Mittel dienen, um gesellschaftliche
Herausforderungen zu meistern. 17.000 junge Sportler
nutzen die städtische Sportinfrastruktur ganz kostenfrei.
In unseren Sportanlagen sind aber auch zahlreiche andere
Zielgruppen gern gesehene Gäste. Betriebssportler
gehören natürlich dazu!
Die Flämische Betriebssportliga (VLB) hat sich sehr
bewusst und mit gutem Grund für Gent als erste Belgische
Gastgeberstadt für die Europäischen Betriebssportspiele
entschieden. Die Föderation möchte diese
Großveranstaltung schon seit vielen Jahren organisieren.
Zusammen mit dem Vorstand, dem Mitarbeiterteam und
der Genter Stadtverwaltung sind die Vorbereitungen in
vollem Gange.
Das Sportangebot wird neben den klassischen Sportarten
auch eine Reihe von weniger bekannten Sportarten oder
Aktivitäten umfassen. Mit ihrer langjährigen Erfahrung
meistert die VLB die Herausforderung der Erneuerung und
Vielfalt.
Wir fühlen uns sehr geehrt und sind stolz, vom 21 bis
25 Juni 2017 Ihr Gastgeber für diese einzigartigen
Betriebsportspiele sein zu dürfen.

There is also an important social aspect to sports policy in
Ghent. Sport brings people together and can provide
leverage to tackle social challenges. The city’s sports
infrastructure is used by 17.000 young athletes free of
charge, but other target groups are also more than
welcome at our facilities, including company sports
enthusiasts!
It therefore comes as no surprise that the Flemish
Federation for Company Sport (VLB) has chosen Ghent as
the host city for the first European Company Sport Games
in Belgium. The federation has been working on the
organisation of this event for years, and the entire
management and staff are currently hard at work with
Ghent city council to make this an unforgettable
initiative.
Apart from the traditional sports, the event will also
include several lesser-known sports and activities. VLB
boasts years of experience and is not afraid to take on the
challenges of innovation and variation.
Together, we are honoured to welcome you to this
remarkable event, which will take place from 21st to 25th
of June 2017.

The city’s historical function as a meeting place is also
reflected in the personality of its inhabitants, who are well
known for their hospitality, warmth and independence of
character. They are also bon vivants, so there are plenty
of cafés, bistros and restaurants to choose from in Ghent.
Moreover, the city boasts countless hotels, B&Bs, youth
hostels etc. – plenty of accommodation to choose from!

Ghent is a bubbly city at heart, with historical and
authentic flair. It hosts one of the largest universities in
Belgium, making it a city of knowledge and culture. It’s
the place to be for young entrepreneurs and creative
spirits, and it has been named ‘Creative City of Music’ by
UNESCO.
Sport is also high on the agenda in Ghent. In recent years
major investments have been made in the development
of top-notch sports infrastructure. The city council is
committed to continuing these efforts, for example
through collaboration with public and private partners.
The sports infrastructure in Ghent is among the
best- developed in Flanders. Moreover, for most sports,
athletes can find accommodation in or around the city
centre, which is definitely a major asset for a
large-scale event like this one.

innen. Mit einer der größten Universitäten Belgiens
hat sich Gent zu einem Kompetenz- und Kulturzentrum

den vergangenen Jahren hat man stark in den Ausbau

Stadtverwaltung führt diese Strategie fort, unter anderem
durch die Kooperation mit öffentlichen und privaten
Partnern. Die Sportinfrastruktur von Gent ist eine der
umfassendsten in Flandern. Für die meisten Sportarten
gibt es eine Sportanlage in der Stadtmitte oder deren
Umgebung. Das sehen wir als ein besonders großes Plus
für eine Großveranstaltung wie diese.
