Lots of Connections at the Beginning of Summer!
It has been another incredible month at the Laguna Niguel Chamber. I can’t express enough how proud I am
of all our members. From mixers to sponsored events, we have again proven to be leaders in how Chambers
should function.
Daniel H. Abrams
2014 Board Chairman
Our Pancake Breakfast on July 4th was just an incredible day for all. Malinda Goller did an awesome job
with the breakfast as did her Papa Jim who saved the day with an emergency generator. David Simpson and
Debbie Newman proved to be expert organizers by getting all of the volunteers up and running. Without
their leadership, we would have never served 899 breakfasts with minimal wait times. Thanks to everyone for
making this a smooth and enjoyable occasion for our city.
We are proud to have had three more ribbon cuttings. First was Tony Faulkner with Evergreen Realty. He
knocked it out of the ball park with over 100 people in attendance. Then we had Howard Joelson with Rita’s
Italian Ice. What a great new business addition to our community, and a very family friendly establishment! It
is important to note that Howard also contributes a lot to our local sports teams. Finally, we had the pleasure of welcoming Whitney St.
Claire and Blow Away Beauty Bar. Here is a warm welcome to you all, and we wish you nothing but success in the community.
The Mutts and Members mixer extended invitations to our furry friends and family members, and it seemed the dogs had as much fun
as the rest of us. Thanks to Sepulveda Building Material for providing a great atmosphere and the hot dog cart for all to enjoy. Corner
Bakery provided a sampling of their new salads and Donna B’s Bakery Boutique donated tastes of cookies and cupcakes. Once again an
overall top-notch event.
Don’t forget our upcoming event, the Country & Western Barbecue honoring Mayor Linda Lindholm. Mary Smith has lots of western
surprises in store for us, so make sure to sign up before August 2nd. You can also check out our website or contact Debbie Newman about
sponsorship opportunities.
Please also make sure to join us at our monthly Network Breakfasts and Connect 4 Lunch & Learn,
where we not only get to meet members and prospective members alike, but we learn tips on
improving our businesses. Feel free to contact me anytime with questions about these and the other
events that the Chamber offers.

Dan Abrams, “Certified Healthcare Reform Specialist”

The Chamber cares about the health of your business. That is
why we are canvasing the entire city to get the Business Watch
Emergency Contact Form signed and returned to Police Services.
Crime, burglary, robbery and vandalism can be particularly
devastating to small businesses in terms of money, customers,
and employee safety. Through crime prevention, business owners
can protect their assets as well as their employees. Without the
emergency contact information the sheriff’s department may not
be able to contact the correct person to secure the property if
something should happen after hours.
If you have a couple hours to help us get these forms signed
and returned, please contact the Chamber office , Gary Capata
at 364-0334 or David Simpson at 495-7922. Thank you for your
consideration!

The Chamber is fortunate to have a dynamite team working
together to make your luncheons relevant. Bill Leber chairs
Connect 4 Lunch & Learn while Dixon Kavanaugh books speakers
to help you market your business. Eric Bergstrom booked the
restaurants that hosted the luncheons this year. Thanks so much
for your assistance!
After reviewing the surveys taken at the end of every event the
first half of the year, the team decided that there needs to be a
more “professional” locale to hold the luncheons. Amber Gallette,
who manages the executive suites on the 3rd floor of the Crown
Cabot building, invited our group to hold our meetings in their
high-tech/private conference room. The presenter now has
noise-free surroundings AND the capability to make PowerPoint
presentations.
In today’s marketplace, businesses demand that expenditures be
reduced whenever possible. Office Depot is offering our members
discounts if office supplies are ordered on-line. You may receive:

10% off almost everything* Office Depot stocks
FREE Next Day Delivery on In-Stock Items (orders over $50)

*Some exclusions apply
On an average, a 10 person member company will save $525 by
participating in the Chamber Office Depot program, and larger
companies can save even more! Watch your e-news for updated
information on how to participate.
The luncheons will be catered by new member Sue Zanayed. She is the owner of the Al Cappuccino Coffeehouse & Café, a
Mediterranean café located on the first floor of the office building. The menu consists of a selection of wraps, soups, salads and a
featured hot entrée each month. Be sure to try out this new meeting venue which offers members
another way to learn about business while making connections!

EMERGING PROFESSIONALS
The Laguna Niguel Chamber was incorporated in 1982, seven
years before Laguna Niguel became a city. In the last couple
years, we’ve noticed that quite a few of our members are
retiring and new young professionals are coming into the
workforce. We feel it is our responsibility to embrace and
mentor these new future business leaders. That is what
catapulted the formation of the Emerging Professionals. What
better way to combine our resources of experience and youth!
Chairman Dan Abrams appointed Lisa Brown, Sway Ballroom
Dance, to chair this committee. At the first meeting on August
19th at 8:00am, those who are interested are invited to the
Chamber office to discuss the direction that this group wants
to pursue to assist them to become better at their businesses.
Please note, that your employees are welcome to become
members of the group. Hope to see you on the 19th!

Over 150 dogs, their owners, and Chamber members from Laguna
Niguel, San Clemente, and San Juan Capistrano attended the
three-Chamber Mutts and Members Mixer hosted at Sepulveda
Building Materials. The event provided exposure for south county
businesses and for non-profit organizations involved in assisting
those who are sight impaired. Sepulveda owner, Janie Connors,
trains puppies for the Guide Dogs of America and is very active in the
organization. Laguna Niguel Lions Clubs' mission is to raise awareness
of eye disease, conduct vision screenings, support Guide Dogs of
America, and collect eye glasses to distribute internationally to those
who are not able to afford them. This community event provided an

MEMBERS TESTIMONIALS
About Allen Family Automotive Group
Tom Mauro, Mauro Advisory Services says: “I just had my car serviced at Allen Family Automotive Group.
I was having some problems, and they scheduled me that same day. As someone who is in tune with what
customer service is really about, I cannot stress enough how all their employees (service reps, car runners,
etc.) exceeded my expectations. If anybody saw me alone for just a minute, someone was coming up to me
and making sure I was getting the help I needed. Customer-focused service seems to be part of the culture
at Allen. The car was fixed, washed and delivered in top-notch condition. We are fortunate to have such a
great company be a member of the Laguna Niguel Chamber”
David Weiss Designs, owner of Gem Appraisal Service and David Weiss Designs Fine Jewelry commented:
“Most people dread going into a car dealership to buy or service a car. Not at Allen Family Automotive
Group. They are the epitome of customer service; they may have cornered the market. My family bought
3 automobiles from Allen in the past 2 years and we have nothing but praise for the cars, the salespeople
and the service associates. They bend over backward to get your business and go even further to make sure
to keep it. I get calls from my service advisor when my car needs to
come in for my FREE service and periodic calls just to make sure that
I am happy or if there is anything else they can do. I can’t say enough
about the Allen Automotive Group, it’s a family owned business
and it seems they treat everyone from their employees to their
customers, like family. I would never go anywhere else.”
June breakfast!
Elaine Gennawey, CRPC with Basdakis Wealth Management Group,
Inc. is another fan of Allen: “A few months ago we purchased a
new car from Allen Family Automotive Group. The professionalism,
courtesy, and friendliness of the staff made buying the car a fun
experience. And we were extremely pleased with the price. Allen
Autos is very competitive on price in addition to their excellent
service. The true test of a car dealer is how they treat you after
the sale. Ray has taken the car to them for regularly scheduled
maintenance and has been very happy with the courteous, prompt
service. The staff at Allen is very respectful of his time and even
provides a place where he can work on his laptop while waiting. We
are happy to refer our friends and family to Allen Family Automotive
Group and do so with confidence.”
