Happy New Year 2003! We were so excited about the upcoming year and being able to spend some qual ity time with our family…then on January 2, 2003 off they went to Disney World and left us home alone…again! They were gone 5 days and enjoyed riding Space Mountain, visiting MGM, and despite the rainy weather had a great time…without us! Since one of us is a great swimmer and the other is a great tumbler and always lands on his feet, we knew we would be invited to the girls’ birthday parties in mid-January. After all, Erin was having her 8-year birthday party at an indoor swimming pool and Emma was having her 5-year birthday party at the Little Gym. We were looking forward to having a great time at the parties…but no invitations, no cake, no party…left at home…again! Now don’t get us wrong, we love our family. After all, we have a roof over our heads, we get fed every day and they even clean up our poop at least once a week. But is it asking too much to have been there to watch Erin and Emma soar down the ski slopes in Steamboat, Colorado, over Valentine’s weekend? Or at least to have been there when they did an awesome job skiing down the slopes at Snowshoe, West Virginia, with their friends the Billows over Spring Break? They said they couldn’t find skis the right size for us so we were left at home…again. Finally in April, the family decided to take a trip we knew we were going to be going on. We heard Emma and Erin talk all week about going to Grandma Janet’s house for the Shad Festival. Imagine that, a whole weekend honoring a FISH and lots of leftover food to eat…what a perfect weekend! Of course, it would have been perfect if our family had taken us with Allan Haseley Family (1) them to the Grifton Shad Festival. They had a We were glad we were left at home this year great time, but we were left at home…again. when the rest of the family visited Grandma Janet and Uncle Jack in R’vlle. They said they Wow! We knew we were going on the camping trip because we heard that the Quigleys (the kind neighbors who feed us when our family is away) were bringing their new puppy dog, Blade. Of course, if the neighbors’ dog was going, we would surely get invited as well. Wrong again! We were left at home alone to watch the house. While the rest of the family was gone camping, we had some new visitors come to our house. We were asleep late one night when some guys entered the house through a back door and told us Mom’s jewelry and all the computers and other stuff they had stuffed in their bags needed to be taken to Santa’s workshop for repairs. Of course, with Christmas only a few months away we didn’t want to say anything. We thought at first it was Uncle Harold Haseley stopping by for an unannounced visit, but was Harold crazy enough to break into one of his own relative’s house? Of course, Grandpa Ed always said “They don’t call him crazy Harold for nothing.” We still are not sure if it was Harold or someone else, but we do know the only valuable things they left at the house were us…again! Everyone seemed to have fun hiking and camping and sleeping in tents, but when they got home they sure didn’t seem happy about what the guests we entertained while they were gone had done. Oh well, serves them right for going off and leaving us at home alone…again! We hope you all have a Happy Holiday and remember to spend lots of quality time with the WHOLE family in 2004! If you are ever in the Charlotte area, stop by and visit. Of course, nobody will be at home but us…again! My homeroom teachers’ names are Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. Williams. I am also in the 3rd grade book club. There is a new girl in my class named Heather and she came over to spend the night. We are now best friends. One of my camps this year was camp Whip-or-Wil. I was in the oldest group: Lovable Lions. We won most creative for our fort and logo. Another camp was drama camp. We did a play at the end of the week and I was an Indian, a chipmunk, and a bush! We went skiing with the Billows and the Potts and we went on the Labor Day camping trip. Our next-door neighbors brought their new dog Blade. In January we went to Disney World with Katelyn, my cousin, and I went on Space Mountain 5 times. This year I’m in an all girls basketball league with my friend Ashley. So far it is very fun. For Halloween I was a teenage devil and got 101 pieces of candy! I am making a magazine called Happy Peo ple Mag. — Erin Beck Haseley Allan, Erin and Emma at Indian Ladder Trail near Rensselaerville Allan Haseley Family (2) An Interview With Emma What is your name? “Emma, that’s easy.” How old are you? “5, whatever.” When is your birthday? “January 22, this is easy.” What did you do for your last birthday party? “Went to Little Gym, but she (Grandma Janet), probably won’t know what Little Gym is.” Who are your best friends, Emma? “Ellie, Olivia, Haley, Cailyn, Katherine, Anne Berry, Ellen.” What are your favorite things to do? “Watch TV, play with my friends, play on our tire swing, coloring, playing with my dolls and Barbies. Emma just lost her first tooth. Vampire drawing by Emma Page 4 The Haseley Herald Jeffrey’s “Stuff” I watch and listen to Karen a lot, so this is what I’ve seen and learned in the last 12 months, beginning in November 2002. In November (and—give and take a little—like all the other 11 months), Karen has been knitting, sewing, cross-stitching, stitching hardanger projects, doing woodworking, devising experiments, doing all sorts of computer gobbledegook, laying out the Haseley Herald, creating the Haseley calendar, making Xmas presents and birthday presents and unbirthday presents for her family and friends, working on projects, playing volleyball, mothering her cats, and so on and so forth. In short, Karen has been doing a lot of “stuff.” In November, because Karen left early to help Janet, I drove to Grifton alone. In Grifton, Karen worked on the Haseley Herald, knitted, did “stuff,” and talked to (and played with) her family and friends. Ruthanne and I cooked Thanksgiving dinner. Karen talked to me during Thanksgiving dinner and during one of our many trips with Janet to Kinko’s to get the Haseley Herald done correctly. (But mostly, she talked with Janet.) I drove us back to Maryland, while Karen knitted and talked about “stuff.” In December, I drove us to Grifton, while Karen knitted and talked about “stuff.” In The Big Kid's birthday celebration in R'ville Karen Haseley Grifton, Karen knit ted, did “stuff,” and talked to (and played with) her family and friends. Ruthanne and I cooked Xmas dinner. Karen talked to me during Xmas dinner. I drove us back to Maryland, while Karen knitted and talked about “stuff.” In April, I drove us to Grifton, while Karen knitted and talked about “stuff.” In Grifton, Karen knit ted, did “stuff,” and talked to (and played with) her family and friends. Karen talked to me sometime during Shad Festival. I drove us back to Maryland, while Karen knitted and talked about “stuff.” In July and October, I drove us to New York, while Karen knitted and talked about “stuff.” Whether in New Hartford or in Rensselaerville, Karen knitted, did “stuff,” and talked to (and played with) her family and friends. Sue and Stuart’s 20th anniversary surprise party was terrific fun. During the October trip, Stuart and I went salmon fishing. Naturally, Stuart caught all the fish. Ka ren talked to me dur ing both trips, but—except for a wonderful walk around Indian Lad der at Thacher Park—I don’t remember when. I drove us back to Maryland, while Karen knitted and talked about “stuff.” From reading the above lines—and between those same lines—you’ll understand more reasons for which I love Karen. I’ve seen and learned that Karen genuinely appreciates and cares for her family and friends. Bye, bye—The Big Kid (Jeffrey Dulberg) P.S. If I just make a few adjustments in the future, I can use this same entry in the next 50 Haseley Heralds, and I won’t have to worry about Karen bugging me every year to get it written. 2003 Edition Karen’s “Stuff” Re-read Jeffrey’s (the Big Kid) article and you’ll know what my year was like. I guess I’ll have to give J. a little more attention! But so many CRAFTS and so little TIME!! In addition to what he wrote, I also went to Rensselaerville for Labor Day, and I did drive myself, so I couldn’t knit and talk about “stuff” on the way L, but I did knit and talk about “stuff” once I got to R’ville! I got reacquainted with Stuart’s niece, Catherine, and met her husband and children for the first time. We also hiked Indian Ladder Trail during this visit and I decided Jeffrey should hike it when we returned in October. (Which we did.) I also drove to Sue’s in November for her annual open house, and drove back home, to go to work for two days and then fly to NC to work on Haseley Herald so it would be finished by Thanksgiving. Since Jeffrey drives down (by himself, I might add) and I ride back with him on Sat ur day af ter Thanksgiving, the HH has to be finished, so I can knit and talk about “stuff” on the way back to Maryland! Thanks to everyone for getting the news in! Volleyball this past year was disappointing…we didn’t even finish the season. But I am really looking forward to this year’s season since I am coordinating an age group team with lots of friends who have not played to gether for maybe 8 years. It’s lots of fun to have “old” teammates and friends back playing together. When we were in R’ville over the Fourth of July, Blair and I worked on the family Christmas orna ments which were given out at Thanksgiving when all the family was in Grifton. Last year Emily helped make ornaments; this year it was Blair’s turn and next year it will be Erin and Emma who will help. I really enjoy working with my nieces to make these ornaments. Thanks, girls! It’s nice having the “helping hands!” Just for the record, Jeffrey and I went to see Cats! at the National Theater in DC in October, and I did NOT knit on the way to, or back from, or during the performance, but I’m sure I talked about “stuff” at some point during the day (not during the performance, though!). I guess that’s about all the additions for now. Enjoy this year’s copy of the HH and until next year….. P.S. If anyone hears from Harold please keep us posted. Thanks! — Karen Haseley Visit www.thehaseleys.com to view the 2002 or 2003 HH online with color photos! 2003 Edition The Haseley Herald On the Run This year we have been busy as usual. Some ac tiv i ties are much the same as last year. Lynne continues to teach home bound students part time and sells real estate. As one of the Knitwits, she continues to peddle her knitted handbags and scarves. She and Blair spent their usual 2 weeks in upstate New York visiting Rensselaerville and the Millers. While there, she ran the Boilermaker, Utica’s famous 15K road race. Two trips to Emerald Isle beach have become annual events. The week in April with the Millers and the week in June were enjoyed by all. Blair brought a couple of different friends and Maw Maw (Scott’s mother) joined them for a few days. In August the Salems and Guptons joined Lynne and Scott for a trip to Rensselaerville. They took a side trip to Saratoga and had fun betting on the horses. They also enjoyed a meal with the Brazilians (see page 16) who were staying at the Candy Ladies’ House. The fall found the Davenports still die-hard UNC fans as they attended several home ball games in Chapel Hill. The master bedroom addition downstairs and Blair’s suite upstairs were completed just before Christmas last year. The new space is being enjoyed by all! There are still a few curtains to hang and some finishing touches that need to be done. The kitchen is being painted now so the projects sort of overflow into other rooms. Several new families joined in on the annual Labor Day camping trip this year. Bear Lynne Davenport Family (1) Den Family Campground was the destination and lots of hiking was done around the Linville Falls area. The biggest news is that Scott is a Paw Paw and Lynne is a Mama Lynne. Both are proud grandparents of adorable baby Reese, born Sept. 5. They along with Aunt Blair were lucky to be able to see her hours after her arrival. October found the Davenports in Florida 2 out of 3 weekends. First was a trip to Disney World. It just happened to be Blair’s 8th birthday. Scott attended a few meetings for the In su la tion Con tractors Association of A me r i c a b u t mostly the time was spent visiting Epcot, An i mal Kingdom, and Magic Kingdom. Then Blair visited Grandma Janet while Lynne and Scott went to a dealer conference at Sandestin Resort on the Gulf coast of Florida. They took a trip to nearby Seaside to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery. Blair continues to stay busy with all her activities- Where does the time go?? She is 8 and is losing teeth. That toothless grin is almost gone as her new teeth are starting to fill up her smile J. — Lynne Davenport DAVCO, KLASCO and Paw Paw We are in our 9th year with DAVCO Energy Systems and 2003 has been a great year in spite of the sluggish economy. Our business has been very blessed and construction has held steady and we have been able to increase our market share with both insulation and fireplaces. We are now working on a new showroom/warehouse for 2004. KLASCO (Kelly, Lynne, Allan, Scott) is building a new building to lease to DAVCO and we will triple our showroom and provide more warehouse space which we desperately need. KLASCO hopes to also build some additional commercial rental property to start preparing for retirement. No retirement any time soon, but hopefully this will be a good venture for all of us. The highlight of our year was the arrival of our grand daugh ter, Reese Emily Davenport. It has been very exciting. We look forward to every chance we get to spend time with her. She is very beautiful (I'm just a little prejudiced) and we look forward to the coming years watching her grow and develop. I’m sure Scottie and Kim will have all the details for you in their news. We hope that everyone has a happy and safe holiday and a blessed 2004. — Scott Davenport Page 5 Blair I am in sec ond grade. I started school Aug. sixth. Hudson Voughn and Kathryn Scott are in my class. I went to Rensselaerville in the summer. I went to the beach and saw my cousins there names are Niles, Andrew, Emily, and Cameron. I went to Disney World Wed. and came back Sun. Oct. 26 was my birthday. I had to spend my birthday on two air planes it was boring. So I had my b-day on Halloween. I had 4 friend’s over they went trick-or-treat ing with me, had cake and ice-cream, opened presents, and had a pillow fighting ghost story’s fantastic slumber party. I’m in brownies again. I went to dixie stamMonkey pede in Nov. I went to A drawing DAY AT THE FARM with by Blair the brownies also. I am doing basketball again I am not on Hudson’s team but I’m on Taren’s (Taren is a new girl she’s my friend). My favorite animal is a monkey. I also took golf lessons and tennis and horse back riding lessons. I am a aunt to Reese Emily Davenport. I went to Bild-a-Bear with Shelly. Bild-a-Bear is were you can make a stoffed animal. I made a monkey. First it was just the skin. Then I got a sound for it. Next I got somebody to put it in. Then I stuffed him. Next I got a heart. Then I rubbed the heart to make it warm. Then I put it in the monkey. Next I gave him a bath. Then I got close for him. Then I made his brith crtificet. Finally I took it home. — Blair Davenport Page 6 The Haseley Herald 2003 Edition New Twig on Davenport Family Tree WOW! Is it news time al ready? It always sneaks up on us and we are late making our dead line ev ery year. We have had a very newsworthy year in 2003. As you all prob a bly know, the Davenports have added a precious, precious baby girl to the family. Reese Emily Davenport graced our presence on Friday, September 5th at 1:51 p.m.; she weighed in at 7 lbs. 12 oz. and was 21.25 in. long. She has been a special reward to finish out a year that we thought would drag on forever because of the pregnancy. Looking back to January, when we first found out we were expecting, it now seems as though it flew by. The year for us was full of planning and preparation along with fun and anticipation. After the morning sickness was over, between the doctor visits and designing the nursery we found some time for us. In May we took a trip to Chicago to visit some friends. Neither Scottie nor I had ever been there. Our friends had planned a full schedule of events for us. We went to the aquarium, an improvisational comedy show, shopped downtown and of course went to a Cubs game. We had a great time in what really is the “windy city”. We hit the NC beach a couple of times in June, once with friends and once with family. The family was from Idaho and had never been to an ocean beach before. Lynne Davenport Family (2) July and August were filled with childbirth classes, baby showers and even more doctor visits. The classes were fun; we met other first-time parents and learned everything from breathing techniques during labor to changing diapers. We were given three baby showers before Reese was born and one afterwards. We want to again send thanks to all of those who are responsible for planning such wonderful parties for us. Tresie Salem and Sherry Moman held a lovely brunch in New Bern. My sister-in-law Jenny Roach had a sweet traditional shower for my family in Reidsville. Our friend Dana Brush gave a shower for us locally with our friends in the Raleigh area. Lisa Smith, Beth Smith, Rosie Smith, and Jennifer Davenport recently had an after-the-birth shower, which was also nice since Reese was there to meet everyone. Thanks to all of you, we love you! We could not have asked for a better pregnancy, labor and delivery. I am ready to do it again! We have been so blessed in having Reese. Her name is very special to us because she is named after our grandmothers: my Nana Clarice Roach and Scottie’s Sithy Emily Zaytoun. Some spe cial memo ries we have from her birth, aside from the obvious, was the fact that we waited to be surprised by the sex of the baby. Hearing the doctor and Scottie exclaim “it’s a girl” was so wonderful. Also, I called the date of her birth months before it got here. September 5th is significant because everything happens to us on the 5th! For example, we started dating on February 5th. Scottie’s birthday and our engagement is October 5th. We got married on August 5th. My dad has a birthday on May 5th. My grandfather Delaney’s birthday is December 5th. Soon we will have every 5th of the calendar year used up. For the rest of the year we are looking forward to every day with Reese Emily. We love watching her grow and interact with our families, who have been so won der ful and supportive. I especially want to mention how great our moms were when we came home with this baby that the hospital failed to give us the owner’s manual for! Your help and love was graciously received and appreciated. Thanks, moms, we love you very much! We are ready for the holidays and hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year! — Kim Davenport Aunt Jennifer I am afraid I do not have much to write about this year. I finished my residency in July and moved back from Virginia and am now work ing as a float ing phar ma cist for Walgreens in the Raleigh-Durham area. I think the biggest news for our family this year is that I became an Aunt J. I imagine that Scottie’s news made it ahead of mine in the paper—since babies and weddings usually do. But I cannot write without mentioning my Reese. She is a wonderful blessing and I am really happy for my brother and Kim. I really do not have much else going on, I guess you get to a certain age and things start to become routine. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season. — Jennifer Davenport 2003 Edition The Haseley Herald Page 7 Millers Roller Coast Through 2003 We rang in the New Year by skiing at Whiteface for a few days in Lake Placid with several other families. The kids are all snowboarders but Stuart and I both ski. You have to have an outdoor winter activity to enjoy the winters in the north or it is a long, cold winter! The routine of work, ball games, and practices keeps us hopping. Each season there are different sports but the car pooling and juggling continues to be our biggest task. Juggling the kids’ activities is our full time job! In our spare time, we both continue to have paying jobs. Stuart is also playing racquetball, coaching baseball and fishing when he can. I am a preschool director and the teacher of the 4-year-olds. The job allows me to work part time so I have time to volunteer at the elementary school as well and to have a little time to myself for exercising, lunch, errands etc. Our 4 kids are at 3 different schools this year. Niles is in high school, Andrew is in junior high and Emily and Cameron are in elementary school. During winter break in February, we went to the Berkshires to check out a time share and we bought one in the hopes of using it to trade for different vacations around the country. In March, Sue or ga nized her firs t Longaberger bus trip to Dresden, Ohio. The group of shoppers and Longaberger enthusiasts enjoyed seeing the basket weavers and had a nice time seeing the sights. Our April vacation was spent once again in Mr. Bosley’s beach cottage at Emerald Isle, NC. We always love the relaxing visit and it is great to see and feel that spring is just around the corner. Stuart’s niece, Catherine Poulson, and children, Mack and Susie who live in New Jersey, joined us at the beach this year. Sue Miller Family (1) Sue took her annual Mothers Day weekend retreat with 3 other friends this year. The group traveled to Rensselaerville where we enjoyed leisurely breakfasts, gourmet meals and a relaxing time. In June, Emily and Sue highlighted their scouting year with a trip to Hershey Park with the whole troop. Sue decided to stop being a leader after many years, as many of the girls were losing interest and it was taking up a lot of her time. They are still registered Girl Scouts but as independents. July brought the 4th of July “re union” in Rensselaerville with the Haseley fam ily mem bers who could get to gether. Friends from New Hartford joined us as well. Stuart and Sue celebrated their 20th anniversary in July. They were totally surprised by an anniversary party planned by Lynne, Janet, Karen and Sue’s friend Annie, right in the Millers’ own home. The party was five days before the actual anniversary date, when Lynne was visiting to run the Boilermaker road race in Utica. That was the first time S&S can remember ever being really surprised. It was a lot of fun as family, friends and neighbors helped to make it a special celebration. The following week end Stu art and Sue were able to get away for a quiet weekend to Newport, RI, for a few nights. In August, Sue went to the annual Basket Bee, a Longaberger convention in Columbus, Ohio. Here she made a decision to grow her business and to become a branch advisor. She is in the process of becoming qualified and, if all goes well, will start 2004 as a branch advi- sor. This means more paper work but also more income and the chance to run her own meetings. After the convention was over, Stuart and the kids drove out and joined her. We met in Pittsburgh at Stuart’s brother’s house and celebrated Niles’ 16th birthday at the Pittsburgh Pirates game. After taking in some sights of downtown Pittsburgh and getting reacquainted with Stuart’s high school friends, Mike and Patty Gilmore and Chris Carlson, we continued re liv ing some of Stu art’s child hood. We drove through Marietta where Stuart grew up and drove past his old house and neighborhood, looking up some old neighbors and taking a tour of his old house. The kids had to hike to one of Stuart’s favorite childhood places called Split Rock, to see if it still looked the same! The kids were very patient with Stu’s reminiscing. Sue looked up an old college friend and Stuart called his old elementary school friend who was able to come down and visit. It had been 30+ years since they had seen each other. We also toured the Fenton Art Glass Factory across the Ohio River in Williamstown, WV. After Marietta, Sue showed the family the Longaberger Homestead and big basket building that she has been visiting for many years. The family was as impressed as the customers she brings out to Dresden, only we did less shopping than the busload of ladies did!!!!!! Then we ventured on to an old friend’s to visit Chrisanne Webster and her two children, Chelsea and Elliott. Here we had a nice cookout and celebrated Andrew’s 13th birth- day. The kids had fun getting reacquainted as they were infants and toddlers together and had no recollection of having met each other! Then on to Cedar Point, another amusement park, where we spent a full day to take in all the sights and rides. August found us back into the sports routine, gearing up for the football season. Niles played varsity football and Andrew played his last year of Pop Warner. Labor Day was spent in Rensselaerville where we enjoyed having Stuart’s niece and family come again. This time Catherine’s husband, Jim Poulson, was able to accompany the family. September began and everyone seemed to have a good start for the new school year. November just concluded with Sue’s annual open house. Karen was able to come up again and to help with the set up. The show has grown in the years Sue has been doing it. This year there were over 20 different presenters and a lot of customers. Attendance was only slowed slightly by the early snowfall and blizzard conditions the first day of the show. The weekend was highlighted with a special visit by three original open house attendees from the early 90s. These people had moved from the area and were some of Sue’s first friends in New Hartford: Pat Presenti, Mary Zwagerman and Cathy Barry. They came back for a “reunion” and we had a lot of fun and laughs. Our 16- and 13-year-old kids who met each other as preschoolers had fun reminiscing and driving around to places they went as children: the Utica Children’s Museum and the zoo! We wish everyone a healthy and happy holiday and new year. THE END — Blair Davenport The Haseley Herald Niles Hey, I’m Niles. This year was a lot of fun. In the spring, I played lacrosse. We had an awesome year, we were undefeated. I was on the Junior Varsity team. We were really good. I play mid-field. We went on vacation during Spring Break. We went down to North Carolina and stayed at Mr. Bosley’s beach house like we do every year. Our friends the Younts also came down and they stayed at the Rhems’ condo. We had lots of fun down there even though the water was pretty cold. During the summer I played in the BULL (Brine Upstate Lacrosse League) for lacrosse. We won most of our games but there were only two other teams. I played midfield and a little bit of defense. We also went to Rensselaerville a lot this summer. While we were up there, I started to learn to drive on the back roads. We went on a big vacation this summer. They had a big black stallion along with a bunch of other horses they bred. Then we went to see where my mom was for her basket convention. We also met her friend that lived in Ohio who had children named Elliot and Chelsea. Then we went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Science Museum. Both were really cool. We also went to Cedar Point Amusement Park. It was the biggest park I have ever been to. There were tons of giant roller coasters. I rode the fastest roller coaster in the world, The Dragster. There were also tons of other really cool rides. We spent one whole day there and went on most of the rides. It was the highlight of my vacation. When I came back home I got my permit and I am scheduled to have a road test to get my license on December 3. I am still practicing parallel parking. After my vacation, football started. I was on our school’s Varsity team. We were really good. I play guard and defensive tackle. I was also on the punt team the whole year and the punt return, kick off, and kick return teams for part of the year. We were the best team we had in years. We beat our rivals Whitesboro which was a big moment since we had not beaten them in 10 years and we also shut out Fulton. It was the first time they had ever been shut out. We only got to the second round of playoffs and we lost a game which we shouldn’t have to Fulton. We ended our season with only 2 losses. It was a great year. This year I am in 11th grade and I am having a good year so far. I have a lot of work but I am getting through it. I am also playing indoor lacrosse right now and indoor soccer. This year I got a big present for my birthday from my Uncle Allan and his family. I got a paintball gun. It’s really cool and I play a lot with my friends in the woods behind our houses. It was a really big pres ent and I am en joy ing it a lot. Thank you, Uncle Allan. — Niles Miller Cameron’s Clipped Comments I went to Water Safari and Seter Point (Ce dar Point) and Darian Lake. It was fun. My friend, Aaron Tompkins had his birthday party. It was laser tag. I also went to Wood berry (lo cal swimming pool). —Cameron Miller 2003 Edition The Haseley Herald Emily’s Eggstra Dur ing the year 2003 I started beading. I bead necklaces, bracelets, an klets, and earrings. I use glass beads. My aunt Karen got me into bead ing. My bead ing name is E m i l y ’s E x o t i c Beads. The next thing I did this year was that I got my ears pierced. I got them pierced at Piercing Pagoda in the Sangertown Mall. I got them pierced in diamonds. It was on February 1st 2003. During the winter I snowboarded. Cameron got a snowboard for Christmas. Cameron and I raced down the slopes. My sports this year were basketball, lacrosse, baseball, softball, gymnastics, and tennis. In gymnastics I have been working on back handsprings and back flips. This year I painted my room. I painted it tie-dye. The four walls are red, yellow, green, and blue. The border is tie-dye too. This summer I went to 4 theme parks. They are Hershey Park, Darien Lake, Cedar Point, and Water Safari. I also went to horse camp this summer. I learned how to jump. Becky said that I am a natural. Now I am taking lessons there. Over the summer my 2 guinea pigs died. I miss them. Their names were Anastasia and Jeanie. Cameron and I both got a chameleon. Cameron’s chameleon’s name is Squiggly. My chameleon’s name is Do a Little Dance. In the spring we got chick and duck eggs to hatch Sue Miller Family (3) from a farm. We got 44 eggs but only 3 hatched. We had a chick and 2 ducks. The chick’s name was Early Bird Earl. We named him that because he hatched early. The 2 ducks were named Poofy and Penguin Pete. They were black and yellow. They liked to follow us around. I had a lot of fun with them but they had to go back to the farm. In September I started school. I am in 6th grade. My teacher is Miss Deuvall. She is really nice. I am also doing flute in school. My band teacher is Mr. Ferguson. He is also really nice. The last thing that happened to me this year is that I tried out for the Christmas Carol “Scrooge” and I made it. My friends also made it. Their names are Lauren Boyce and Heather Matthews. — Emily Miller Rensselaerville Presbyterian Church Pulpit by Emily Miller Page 9 Andrew Achieves Age 13 I’m Andrew and I was 13 years old on August 5. I had a lot of fun this year playing sports and going on several trips. I started 8th grade in the fall and am taking French. School is going well; I am an honor roll student which means my average is in the 90s. All my grades were in the 90s except social studies. I like 8th grade and am having a great year. My teacher for social studies this year was my brother’s football coach. In the spring, I played lacrosse and I was on the modified team for the 7th and 8th grade. I played mid-field and was 3rd string. We were a really good team. During the summer I played in the BULL (Brine Upstate Lacrosse League) for the 7th and 8th grade team. My team had a good season in this league. In the fall I played Pop Warner football and was the starting running back. I carried the football many times. I had 2 touchdowns throughout the whole season. One I ran for about 10 yards and another I ran about 35 yards and broke three tackles. Football is very fun. I played line backer when I was on defense. It was my last year in Pop Warner. I am also doing indoor lacrosse and am doing well. It is very exciting. During spring break we went to North Carolina and stayed at Mr. Bosley’s beach house again this year. We have so much fun down there. Friends from New Hartford came too and we played in the sand and in the water. I had a great time. We also go miniature golfing down there. On our summer vacation my dad and my sister and my brothers and I visited my uncle Jimmy’ family in Pennsylvania. They had a pool that we swam in. While we were there, we went to a Pirates game. My mom joined the rest of the family at Uncle Jimmy’s because she was coming from a basket convention in Ohio. We all visited my dad’s old home were he grew up and met some people that he knew. Then we vis ited other old friends of my dad and of my mom. One of them had a baby horse and a lot of other horses. Then we went to my mom’s basket convention place and saw how they make baskets. Next, we went to the Cedar Point amusement park and went on many rides. My dad and older brother and I went on a ride called the Top Thrill Dragster, the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world. It goes 120 mph and 420 feet high. After this theme park we went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Science Museum which were both really cool. One of the times we went to Rensselaerville my uncle Allan was there. He gave my older brother and me four paintball guns. He said that two are for us and the other two are for my younger brother and sister or for our friends to play with us. They were a great present. We play with them in our back yard and they are really fun. — Andrew Miller Page 10 Shelly Graduates! I’m a Tar Heel born, I’m a Tar Heel bred, And when I die, I’m a Tar Heel dead. Hail to the Brightest Star of All, See its Radiance Shine Reveal all Praises Thine! Yes, you read it right, I’m singing UNC’s praises, but only because it is my biggest news of the year…I GRADUATED!!! I’m now an official graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I finished in August, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication, with a concentration in public relations. I’m not sure what the future has in store for me, but I’m pretty sure it is something exciting. The possibilities are endless – maybe working with a professional sports team or an advertising/public relations agency - you’ll have to wait until next year’s HH to find out! J That’s my news, there’s nothing else to report, so I won’t bore you any longer. In closing, I want to thank Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa for all of your love and support throughout my college career. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to become the person you knew I could be. Grandpa, I did it!! I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season and a wonderful new year! — Shelly Rhem P.S. Aunt Lynne, you were wrong, I didn’t become a Tar Heel fan until AFTER I graduated! J Rhem Family (1) The Haseley Herald Rhems Roam East Coast Hello Everyone! Ruthanne and I continue to hold down Grifton while everyone else has left (except for part-time Jan). This past year was our 20th in Grifton. It’s just hard to believe! Our first house in Grifton continues to be HOME. I would have thought we might have moved around, but Ruthanne and the children wouldn’t dream of it. I will have to say that things have worked out pretty well! Ruthanne and I were actually able to get out of Grifton for a few trips this year. In February we joined our friends from Greenville, the Bryants, on a trip to Florida. While the Bryants looked for retirement homes near Melbourne, Ruthanne and I headed to Key West for a few days. We joined the Bryants later for a tourist visit to Sea World and the Kennedy Space Center. The Space Center was an emotional experience as our visit was only two days after the Columbia disaster. In breaking a July 4th tradition, Ruthanne and I decided to head to the mountains instead of the beach. The week trip proved to be a nice change since the temperatures in Grifton were starting to elevate. In August Shelly and I celebrated my birthday in Atlanta with tickets to see the Braves play. A side trip to Stone Mountain was fun. In August Ruthanne and I made the trip north. After visiting (and dining) with Karen and Jeffrey, we headed for Boston and Cape Cod. Oh yes, I had to see another baseball game, but a baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston was something special. From Boston we headed to Rensselaerville. Unfortunately, the extended driving took its toll on my back. A pulled muscle made relaxation a requirement instead of a luxury. As a true gamer, I did join Ruthanne, the Haseleys and the Millers for the horse races at Saratoga. I think on my next visit to Saratoga, I will use Emma’s proven winning edge in picking the jockey’s colors instead of looking at winning odds. Thanks, Jan and Jack, for the hospitality. By the way, Jack, I have finished 2 of the 5 books you gave me to read! On our way back, a quick visit to Annapolis completed our northern trip. Of course there was that trip to Chapel Hill in May. No, we didn’t go to see the big celebration for Roy! I guess with Shelly’s graduation, she now is really a “Tarheel”. Thanks to Jan, Lynne and Mike in sharing our excitement on graduation day. Mike continues to stay busy with school, work, and baseball in the summer. If you are in Greenville ask for Mike to wait on you at Ruby Tuesday’s. He will give you great service; just leave a “big” tip! Volunteering and part-time work continues to occupy most of Ruthanne’s and my time. Ruthanne works part-time at the hospital in the Standardized Patient Program and volunteers time with the Grifton Shad Festival and Family Violence Program in Greenville. I continue to help the Ayden-Grifton High School athletic program and still find a little time to play golf and tennis. All of the activities keep us quite busy! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Rhems. — Ed Rhem 2003 Edition Mike Well, here we are again, another Christ mas, an other news let ter. Not much has changed since last year. I’m still working part-time, going to school, and playing baseball in the summer. I am now waiting tables at Ruby Tuesday’s Restaurant in Greenville on the days I don’t have class. The other days I am still going to Pitt Community College where I am working on my Associate Degree in Architectural Technology. I hope to finish up this summer. I can’t wait to finish school so I can move somewhere new and different. I have moved to a new apartment on the other side of Greenville and am rooming with a good friend of mine who also goes to Pitt. A lot of students live there and it is closer to the college action. In the summer I am still trying to play baseball on a semi-pro team here in Greenville. I did a lot of pitching last summer and hope to do the same this year. Guess that’s about all for now. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. — Mike Rhem 2003 Edition The Haseley Herald Frankforts Travel Abroad This year Gaynor and Hans can report several memorable events, among which are Tania and Jeff’s wedding, the addition of another grandson, more travel abroad, and a family vacation in Myrtle Beach. We are sure that Tania will provide details of her wonderful wedding with family in Pinehurst, and the party with friends in Raleigh. Mary (our daughter) and Drue Head, after four sons and a daughter, were blessed with another son. They now have their basketball team and a cheerleader! We had a wonderful time. We also made two trips abroad. The first trip was to the UK where we did a lot of sightseeing with Jordan, Andrea and Steve. We spent about 3 days in London visiting the main tourist spots including several palaces, museums, and castles. We also visited Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick Castle (2 days) before we moved on to Swansea, Wales, where we stayed about 4 days with Gaynor’s family, and visited more castles. Jordan was a big hit with the family in Swansea, and he enjoyed the trip immensely. All of us did. Gaynor and Hans also visited Holland for about 10 days to be at a 50th wedding anniversary of one of Hans’ sisters. We met a lot of his relatives at this family reunion: sisters, nieces and nephews he had not seen in over 15 years, and their children he saw for the first time. It was a very memorable experience. One look at his black and tan hair and he was instantly named Guinness. Guinness is Astro’s brother from another litter. Jordan and Kathleen drove to the Uwharrie Mountains and picked him out and he joined his sister a few weeks later. Although Mr. G is now bigger than his sister, Astro treats him like her puppy, licking the sand from his eyes every morning and teaching him the fine of art of tearing up the back yard and frightening visitors. We thought that if she had company all day it would tire her out, but we were wrong. If we could harness those dogs’ energy then they’d dramatically reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Highlight of our year was a 17-day trip to Europe. Cruising from Barcelona, we went to the French Riviera, Florence, Rome, Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, Naples and Malta. It was great to have time away with Kat from the day-to-day hassle. The boat was awesome and we had a great time. Lots of walking and picture taking. Kat was quite Janet-like, armed with the camera constantly. (She took 20 rolls of pho tos.) The highlight of the trip was Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii. We hiked up the volcano and saw a crater many times larger than I Steve, Kat and Jordan Malik Frankfort/Malik Family (2) ever imagined. Pompeii was like walking the streets in 79 AD. Very impressive and a bit spooky because everything that was going on at 1 p.m. was frozen in a time capsule when the eruption covered the place with 6 meters of ash. Kat, Jordan and I also went to Orlando for a week. Kat got to eat in Cinderella’s castle for her 40th birthday. J-man reprised my last visit to Disney when I barfed in my plate at a nice hotel. He returned the favor at Kat’s birthday meal in the castle, proving I really did spit him out. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist that pun.) It was probably due to me not having him drink more water during the 100-degree heat/100% humidity. Things only got better and we did the whole deal from rides at 6 theme parks to fireworks to food. Personally, I liked the Blizzard Beach water park and Kennedy Space Center the best. We got the up front and personal tour where we went right out to the launching pads for the space shuttle. Extremely cool. No doubt this trip tested my surgically repaired knees to the max, as a trip of a lifetime seemed like the trip of two lifetimes to me. Faced with the end of our three-year lease for the business, Kat, Allan, Kelly and I took advantage of the terrible commercial real estate market and low interest rates and bought a building in downtown Raleigh. 21,000 SF cost us about what a new lease in our old space was going to cost. We moved in May 15 and the day we moved (which was over 100 degrees) the HVAC stopped working. It’s been very interesting dealing with landlord issues but will definitely be worth it in the long run. — Stephen Malik Tania The most sig nif i cant, amazing, wonderful thing that happened this year is that Jeff and I ma r r i e d . I hope this season finds everyone in good health and full of hol id a y cheer. This has been a year of normal life, highlighted with some memorable events. After a busy spring at work, a vacation was definitely in order. Mom, Hans, Jordan, Steve (my boyfriend) and I took a “European Vacation” in the classic Chevy Chase style. Of course, we saw all the highlights (Big Ben, Westminster Abby, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Tower of London, Windsor Castle, Warwick Castle, Swansea, and Mumbles), and had the luxury of all staying together in a one-bedroom apartment in London for a couple of days. Nothing says family bonding like sharing one bathroom among five people J. As we were touring Warwick Castle, I could have sworn I saw Harold sword fighting with the locals. We were going to call out to him, but thought he might be a little busy at the moment. Not only did we visit all the tourist attractions in England, but we were also able to visit relatives in Wales that I had not seen since I was 12. It was wonderful to be surrounded by several family members and realize that we are part of a large, loving family, even if they are an ocean away. As always, I learned a lesson from my godmother (Janet) and took several Frankfort/Malik Family (3) rolls of pictures that I’ll bring home for viewing over the holidays. After returning from Europe, my boyfriend, Steve (not to be confused with brother Steve) and I purchased a true fixer-upper house which will hopefully become a good investment after some TLC. We have spent weekends knocking out walls, cutting down trees, remodeling the kitchen along with all the small things (paint, crown molding, etc.). We were pulled away from the “home improvement” project for one special weekend in September when Tania got married. We all had a wonderful time in Pinehurst, playing golf, watching people play the “Hog Hole” and welcoming Jeff into the family. It was also great to see Scott, Lynne and Blair at the Carolina game and party to celebrate and CHARE (ask Tania or Jeff for the meaning) Tania and Jeff’s wedding. After the busy summer and fall, I’ve become buried in work again. Hopefully, the project on which I’m working will close by the end of the year to give me another reason to celebrate the New Year. I hope you all had a wonderful year! Happy Holidays! — Andrea Malik Page 13 “Edward Scissorshand” Janet put over 2200 medical miles on the car, driving to and from Albany three days a week all summer and fall for visits to the hand therapist. That and two hours a day of hand exercises and contrast (heat and cold) soaks and wearing a contraption that looks like “Edward Scissorshand” to stretch tendons, and doing finger-strengthening exercises left little time for much else. The flowers and the raspberries reverted to jungle as no weeds were pulled and no plants were pruned. Fortunately, Patty and Bob Olson came and went frequently during most of the time from May through October and Patty did a lot of the cooking and food prep when she was in residence. And one of the three Brazilian house painters who we put up at Candy Ladies’ House for six weeks is also a chef and invited us to dinner often. The reason for Janet’s infirmity was two broken metacarpal bones in her right hand which have not healed as satisfactorily as we wished. The hand is still very stiff and awkward, with three fin gers look ing very misshapen and still swollen, partially from ar- thritis which was aggravated by immobilization when the splint and cast were helping the bones knit. I didn’t get snowed in, however, because I was at the Millers’ (New Hartford, NY) for Christmas and at Ashokan Field Camp on New Year’s weekend (in Catskill Mountains near Kingston, NY). Fortunately, my neighbors shoveled out the street end of my driveway prior to my return (thanks, Greg and Cindy). A nearby town on NY State Rt. 20 between Rensselaerville and the Millers’ had more than 30 inches during just the Christmas storm! Snowfall in Albany last winter was over 100 inches and up to 200 inches or more was recorded in some of the higher nearby elevations. The only other significant snow storm (21 inches) occurred on Sunday-Monday of Presidents’ Day (Feb. 16-17), but I was comfortably settled in a hotel at the Dance Flurry. However, it took 2-1/2 hours to drive the usual half hour from Saratoga to Albany Monday afternoon! I was able to fly to Grifton, NC, to the Shad Festival again this year in April, and to visit many old friends and relatives there and at Dave Bosley’s cottage on Emerald Isle (NC coastal banks near Jacksonville). New dance locations for me this year were San Diego and Santa Fe in September (see next paragraph). By far the most memorable event(s) of the year were during our west coast trip (with sister Janet during most of September), including stunning scenery and fascinating history in the Gold Country, along the Pacific coast in the Carmel and Big Sur area and San Diego in California; Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest and Jerome in Arizona; Santa Fe, Pecos, Taos, Bandelier cliff dwellings and Holy Ghost Canyon in New Mexico. We visited or re-visited many old and new friends and relatives. Dave Comstock served as host and Searls house, Nevada City, CA guide in the Gold Country. He had discovered our mother, Frances Gilmour Long, through her booklet “Coast to Coast by Railroad, the Journey of Niles Searls, May 1869”. This was a compilation of letters Niles wrote to his wife while he was on the first through train after the Golden Spike was driven at Promontory Point to join two railroads which had been built from opposite sides of the country. Dave wrote three books about the settlement of the Gold Country, drawing for research on many of the 150-year-old letters we have which were written by Niles and other ancestors. Sites we visited included the house in Nevada City, CA, where Niles and subsequent generations of Searlses lived, the cemetery where he is buried, the main street of Nevada City, the Searls Law Library, and several gold mine sites. Staying at the Comstocks’ is an interesting experience since they are miles from the nearest paved road or electricity or phone lines. We lit our “bedroom” in Dave’s “book shack” building with a kerosene lamp and used a flashlight to find our way outdoors to the bathroom. During our trip, we visited relatives Niles Searls in Murphys, CA, and Phoebe Searls True who lives near San Francisco. Both are great grandchildren of the Niles who settled Nevada City. We also met for the first time Phoebe’s niece Gwynna Searls Brom and Stanley Searles. Stanley is descended from Niles Searls’ brother John Serls. Other relatives we stayed with en route were Don and Mary Ann Long (Fair Oaks, near Sacramento); Preston and Anne Gilmour Hill (Los Gatos, CA and visited Anne’s 99-year-old mother, Prehistoric cliff Lola Belle, who is in assisted living in San Jose); Phil dwellings, Bandelier, NM and Ruth Smith (Camarillo, CA – she is descended Janet Haseley (3) from another Niles branch but we are 9th cousins); Helen Marie Long (San Diego, CA – we also met several of her children and grandchildren); and Blair Gilmour Cooper (who lives in an adobe in the historic district of Santa Fe, NM that has been in her family for five generations). Friends we either visited or stayed with overnight were Kathy and Myron Gire (Granite Bay, CA), Patty and Bob Olson (Sutter Creek, CA), Charlie and Bonnie Krone (Carmel, CA), Ed and Annie Koran (Phoenix, AZ). Ed Koran was one of Ed Haseley’s best friends at Kenyon College. The scenery everywhere was spectacular: mountains, canyons, desert, ocean, adobes, former gold rush towns now either ghost towns or full of antique shops, prehistoric cliff dwellings, Petrified Forest and the Grand Canyon. Jack drove and I navigated and stopped often to take photos. Although the purpose of the trip was to visit people, we did take in several historic sites and museums in the Gold Country, in San Diego and in Santa Fe. Ed and I had been to most of these places a couple of times, but Jack had not and I Point Lobos on the Pacific Ocean - view from Charlie Krone's house, Carmel, CA enjoyed revisiting them. Ed “accompanied” us too, as I carried along his photo (the one that was on the front of the 2002 Haseley Herald). Ed and I had stayed at Dave’s cabin in the woods twice on previous visits to the Comstocks and staying there on my 50th wedding anniversary brought back poignant memories. When many friends and relatives sent anniversary greetings, it was special. The woods and the crisp fall air were reminiscent of my honeymoon in a cabin in the woods in Pennsylvania (also without indoor plumbing or electric lights). — Janet Haseley Page 15 “Old Miami, New Miami” After 50 years away, Janet returned to her alma mater June 12-15 in Oxford, Ohio, for her college class’ golden anniversary reunion. It was a wonderful experience and she came away enthused about the beautiful Miami University campus (large shade trees, red brick Georgian-style architecture); the friendliness of the visitors, professors and students; the interesting and stimulating programs (including free “classes without quizzes”); the philosophy of teaching (professors, not graduate students, teach freshmen, in classes with no more than 30 students, not 300 as in many univer si ties). And it was fun. The Golden Anniversary class was inducted into a society which has an owl as its mascot (Older, Wiser Leader) and they taught us the special call: “Whooo, whooo, —- who are you?” (Implying that we “older” folk are forgetful.) Since the reunion began the day after she broke her hand, Janet had to drive the rental car one-handed (left hand) from Cleveland in the northeast of the state to Oxford in the southwest all in one day instead of the planned two days, and got to Oxford about 15 minutes before the opening dinner. A real life-saver was Dorothy Baxter Cibula who had invited Janet to share her room at the Miami Inn instead of staying in a dorm, which meant a live-in assistant for tying shoes and other dressing chores that were difficult or impossible with only one usable hand. After the reunion, she drove to Owensboro, KY to find her grandfather, James Harvey Blair Gilmour’s grave. En route to Owensboro, she stopped for a short visit in Cincinnati with Marlyn and Marge Rabenold and an overnight near Lou is ville with Mi chael, Belle and 6-year-old Jonathan Fosbury (and Michael’s parents, Deb and Dave, who were visiting there also, a delightful treat). Page 16 The Haseley Herald R’ville Properties After over 40 years of attempting to purchase a tiny piece of land already surrounded by ours, we finally were the successful bidder at a tax sale in Albany. Janet’s mother had attended tax sales numerous times only to find the delinquent owners paid up at the last minute and the property was removed from the sale. Years ago Janet had unsuccessfully offered to purchase it directly from the owner. When the county finally took possession, Janet frequent flew up for the March 1 sale. It was the first time she had ever been in R'ville during snow season. The exterior of the Candy Ladies’ House was fi nally painted this summer af ter a three-year wait to move up to the top of Tim Lippert’s list of “to dos” (Catskill Paint Co.). When Tim asked if he could rent a bedroom or two for a few weeks to accommodate three house painters he had sub-contracted, Janet said, “No, you can’t pay, but you can do a few more jobs around the place that need to be done, like painting the bathrooms and trimming overhanging tree branches which require a ladder to reach.” Thus began an interesting The Brazilians: Gerardo, Oliver, Paulo Janet Haseley (4) and mutually bene fi cial sum mer. The three are from Brazil but have lived in the USA for some years, three hours from R’ville. One of the local paint jobs they did for Tim was to paint the exterior of the R’ville Library. Candy Ladies' House, March 2003 One of the Brazilians has his own painting company and one is a chef in the winter. He loves to cook and frequently invited us and several of our summertime guests for dinner. They stayed during the week and went back to their own homes on the weekends which worked out well for sharing accommodations at Candy Ladies’ House since most of our other 53 guests were weekenders only. They stayed one session of four weeks in July-August and one session of two weeks in October and cleaned the kitchen and bathrooms daily, leaving the place spotless when they departed. They even did a bit of gardening. A true win-win arrangement! Two other former strangers/now friends who shared Candy Ladies’ House with the Brazilians during the week were Carolyn and Lynn Richbart from South Carolina who stayed three weeks while Carolyn volunteered her time and talents to transcribe handwritten information onto a computer database for the R’ville Historical Society. She completed two of our 79 looseleaf notebooks which were created 40 years ago by His tor i cal So ci ety volunteers. Any other typists out there who would like a free vacation in R’ville? 2003 Edition Letter to the Haseley Herald Editor Dear Editor: We have enjoyed your publication for many years, though we must confess we do get rather confused as to how Stanley is related to the people we read about in the Haseley Herald. Thirds, fourths, fifths? Once, twice, thrice removed? Well, anyway, there is a common ancestor, and today we thought he must be smiling at the gathering of his descendants. This gathering took place thanks to Janet Haseley. Janet and Jack visited California in September, and we met them and Gwynna Searls at Phoebe Searls True’s house. We had never met Phoebe even though she lives ten minutes from us, and we’d never met Gwynna who lives about 45 minutes from us! Today we went to Gwynna’s house and met her husband Tom, daughter Mira, and dog, Jack. We had a great time and really enjoyed our new-found relatives! So thank you, Janet and Jack. Best wishes to all you cousins, Stanley and Sharon Searles, 20 Nelson Avenue, Mill Valley, CA 94941. P.S. Since we’ve sent our letter in, can we have some turkey now? Ed. Note: The common ancestors are Henry and Hannah Hicks Niles, parents of John Niles and his sister Joanna Lydia Niles (Mrs. Abram Searls). Janet and Jack are fourth cousins of Stanley. Janet's children are Stanley’s fourth cousins once removed and her grandchildren are his fourth cousins twice removed. Niles cousins: Phoebe Searls True, Stanley Searles, Janet Haseley, Jack Long, Gwynna Searls Brom Visitors From May through October three day visitors and 53 overnight guests visited us in Rensselaerville for at least one night and some as much as six weeks. In addition to Haseley Clan family members, guests included Miller friends and relatives Pacilio, Mailloux, Butler, Mulvihill, Donovan and Poulson; Davenport friends Salem and Gupton; Janet’s relatives and friends Hodge, Fosbury, Cooper, Richbart, Cardoza, da Siha, Hall, Olson, Eldridge, Serls and Peoples. In R'ville Niles Miller met Niles Serls, Jr. (Eddy) from NC.
