In the 1950s, Söll experienced a transition from its role as a
“silent farmers village” to a popular holiday resort. The foundation of the Lift-AG in 1959 started off the development towards
a large-scale skiing area. The lifts and cableways at Söll form
part of the largest connected skiing resort in Austria, known as
the “Skiing World Wilder Kaiser – Brixental” with now 279 km of
pists, 91 cableways and lifts as well as 84 huts and restaurants.

der Heimat zu nützen, das ist der Bergwacht Gebot!“ lautet
heute wie damals ihr Leitspruch.

Der Natur- und Umweltschutz in Söll ist seit jeher auch mit den Landwirten und der Bestellung der Kulturflächen verbunden. Durch eine zeitgemäße Mülltrennung und eine Biokompostanlage schafft man Rahmenbedingungen, welche es jedem einzelnen möglich machen,
einen Beitrag zur ökologischen Gesundung des Dorfes zu leisten.
Gerade in den Bereichen der alternativen Energien hat sich viel getan und so hat die Gemeinde diesen Aspekten durch die Solar- und die Photovoltaikförderungen Rechnung getragen.

Die Waldfläche in Söll erfüllt zu 63 % eine

The protection of the environment and natural resources has always been connected with the
local farmers and the cultivation of their fields. Modern waste separation and a biological composting plant create the framework conditions that allow every individual to contribute to the
ecological recovery of the village.
There has been a lot of progress in the field of alternative forms of energy, and the community
has taken account of these developments by supporting solar energy and photovoltaics.

Die Gemeinde Söll war Vorreiter in Tirol in Bezug auf die
Mülltrennung und hat bereits in den 90er-Jahren mit
der Errichtung des Recyclinghofes ein Zeichen gesetzt.
Neben der bereits erwähnten Biomüllsammlung, welche
wöchentlich durch Abholung der Gemeinde Söll erfolgt,
werden zahlreiche weitere „Wertstoffe“ von der Söller
Bevölkerung beim Recyclinghof gesammelt.
Im Jahr 2012 dann ein neuerlicher Schritt, um eine einmalige
Doppelnutzung von Wasserenergie zu gewährleisten: der
Ahornsee und der Speicherteich entstehen am Fuße der
Hohen Salve. 11.000 m² nutzbare Wasserfläche, 5.000 m²
Biotopfläche und ein Speichervolumen von 85.000 m³ Liter

The local community of Söll was a pioneer in Tyrol with
regard to the separation of waste and set an example back
in the 1990s by building its new recycling centre. Apart from
the weekly collection of biological waste mentioned above
and carried out by the community of Söll, numerous other
“valuable materials” are collected by the local residents of
Söll and brought to the recycling centre.
In 2012 the community took another important step and
introduced a unique double-usage of water
resources. The Maple Lake and a retention
basin are being constructed at the foothills of the
Hohe Salve. 11,000 m² of usable watercourse,
5,000 m² of biotopes and a retention volume
of 85,000 m³ of water allow a unique double
usage of water resources.
Kompostieranlage | Composting plant
Zur selben Zeit, als der Recyclinghof
in Söll erbaut wurde, wurde auch eine
Kompostieranlage errichtet. In dieser
wird der Baum- und Strauchschnitt
eines Großteils der Haushalte der
Gemeinde Söll zerkleinert und
fachgerecht
kompostiert.
Dieser
Kompost wird wiederum an die
Söller Bürger verkauft, welche ihn
zum Düngen ihrer Sträucher und
Bäume verwenden. Somit wird ein
geschlossener Kreislauf erreicht.
At the same time as the construction of
the Söll recycling centre, a composting
plant was built. In the composting
plant, tree and bush cuttings from a
large part of all local households are
chopped up and properly composted.
This compost is then sold back to the
residents of Söll who use it to fertilise
their bushes and trees, thus creating a
full cycle.

Der Elternverein Söll, in Zusammenarbeit
mit den Bäuerinnen, bietet seit 2004 für
Volksschüler und Kindergarten-Kinder das
Projekt „Schule am Bauernhof“ an.
Nahezu 40 Vereine in Söll engagieren sich
in vielfältiger Weise. Die Spanne reicht von
Tradition bis Sport, von Kultur bis Geselligkeit.
Es ist eine Schule, die keine Schule ist,
wie man sie kennt. Das Schulgebäude
ist die freie Natur, der Bauernhof, die
Gärtnerei, die Wiesen, der Obstanger, das
Bienenhaus. Sie sind unsere Lehrerinnen die Pflanzen, die Tiere und Menschen, die
auf dem Bauernhof leben.
Since 2004, the Söll parents association
in cooperation with the local farmers
has offered a project for pupils of the
elementary school and for kids of the local
kindergarten. This project is called “School
at the Farm”.
This is no conventional type of school. The
school building is nature itself, the farm,
the nursery, the fields, the orchards, the
bee house. The teachers are plants, animals
and the people living on the farms.

Das Engagement von über 100 ehrenamtlichen
Funktionären fördert vor allem, dass Kindern
und Jugendlichen gesundheitsfördernde und
gesellschaftliche Werte vermittelt werden
und ein umfassendes Freizeitangebot im Ort
präsentiert wird. Für die Gemeinde stellt
diese breite Auswahl und die große Anzahl an
organisierten Veranstaltungen eine Bereicherung
der nachhaltigen Dorfgemeinschaft dar.
Die Kommune, unterstützt durch die öffentliche
Hand, konnte in den vergangenen Jahren Projekte
wie das Schul-Vereins-Sportzentrum, den
Kindergarten (Haus der Kinder), die Volksschule
und das Jugendzentrum verwirklichen.
Kinder und Schüler erleben durch den
naturnahen Unterricht die Begriffe Energie und
Umweltbewusstsein sowie nachhaltiges Arbeiten
auf spielerische Art und Weise praxisnah.
Beispiele dafür sind die Aktion Sauberes Söll,
Schule am Bauerhof und Kinder kochen für
Kinder. Bewusstsein statt Doktrin.
Almost 40 different clubs and associations
actively contribute to the diverse social life in
Söll. The activities range from tradition to sports,
from culture to sociability.
The active involvement of over 100 honorary
operatives primarily supports children and young
people in learning and understanding a healthy
way of life and social values. It also ensures a
comprehensive offer of leisure-time activities in
and around the village. This wide selection and
the large number of organised events represent
an enormous asset, supporting the sustainable
structures of our local community. The community

uses public funds to support various projects,
such as the School and Associations Centre, the
kindergarten (House of Children), the elementary
school and the youth centre that have been
realised in the past few years.
Through hands-on experience, children and pupils
learn to understand the concepts of energy and
environmental awareness as well as sustainable
development in a playful and practical way. Some
of the examples include the initiatives called
“Clean Söll”, “School at the Farm” or “Children
cooking for Children”. It is about awareness
instead of theory.

Der Handel und das Handwerk, die Gemeinde und der Tourismusverband, florieren durch viele
Besucher und Umbauarbeiten an Hotels, Gasthöfen oder Infrastrukturbauten – eigentlich ein
Kreislauf, bei dem oftmals nicht klar ist, wer zuerst da war oder da sein muss. Im Grunde
reduziert es sich darauf – Söll erfrischt in all seinen Facetten mit all seinen Einwohnern und
gestaltet gemeinsam die Zukunft verantwortungsvoll. Die Gesellschaft und die Natur sind
im Wandel und Veränderungen um uns herum machen nicht vor den Toren Sölls halt. Gerade
deshalb ist ein nachhaltiges auf zukünftige Generationen bedachtes Handeln sowohl im Tourismus als auch in der Planung bei den zur Verfügung stehenden Flächen wichtig.

to future generations, both in tourism as well as in developing the available land resources.
