ACADEMICS
At the IMG Basketball Academy, preparation
for the future goes beyond the court.
Our student-athletes develop a strong
academic foundation that allows them to move
seamlessly from high school to college. By
incorporating a collegiate-style schedule that
challenges student-athletes to balance academics
and athletics, IMG student-athletes go to the next
level feeling confident and ready to face the rigors
of university life.
With a support system that includes teachers
and staff who collectively speak 13 languages, IMG
student-athletes in the 2009 and 2010 graduating
classes received a combined $2 million-plus in
scholarships for their freshman year alone. IMG
Pendleton student-athletes have been consistently
admitted to the nation’s most prestigious schools,
including Duke, Harvard and Stanford in just the
past two years.

Leadership. Determination.
Respect. Teamwork.
By combining these traits with experienced
coaching on the court and encouraging teaching
in the classroom, the IMG Basketball Academy
produces more than talented basketball players – it
helps shape the world’s next generation of innovators and influencers.
On the court, the Academy utilizes a multiphased approach to player development that
includes player evaluation, position-specific skill
instruction and competition, the IMG Basketball
Academy is a proven destination for players
seeking improvement. The program includes
multiple boys and girls teams that are sorted by
skill/best competitive fit, not age, and remain fluid
throughout the year. The teams have no more than
12 players on the roster and compete against a
variety of local, regional, statewide and national
competition, depending on the team.
On campus, student-athletes expand their scope
of knowledge through challenging and creative
coursework. They also experience the melting
pot of cultures by interacting with other likeminded athletes from around the world, while
working in the community with various non-profit
organizations.
The Academy program has proven itself as the
nation’s best at producing ultra-successful teams
complete with players who are just as talented off
the field as on it.

camps
With Summer (multi-week and weekly),
Holiday, Spring Break and Weekly (available
year-round) camps available, the IMG Basketball
Academy has camps to fit your schedule and
needs at multiple times throughout the year.
By incorporating the same successful training
methodologies used for the Academy program,
IMG Basketball Academy camps, for boys and
girls in grades 7-12, can prepare players of any
ability level for an upcoming tournament or
season.

HEAD COACH
TALENT
To understand Shell Dailey’s coaching style,
you have to look beyond the time she spent
coaching the world’s best female players in
the WNBA and past her playing days when she
wore the signature burnt orange for the Texas
Longhorns.
No, you have to go all the way back to McKinney,
Texas, where a 12-year-old Dailey started keeping
a secret from her parents that they never learned
about until more than 20 years later.
Pushing 6-feet tall, Dailey knew she had potential,
but it needed more than the set shots being taught
to her by the middle school coach. So every Sunday
after church, Dailey snuck down to a local park and
played for hours with grown men who taught her
elements like a drop step, hook shot and, most of
all, physicality.
“My mother didn’t find out until four years ago
when a guy who used to play came up to her and
said, ‘Man, Shell was tough on the court,’” recalls
Dailey with a laugh.
Now the Director of the Women’s Program for the
IMG Basketball Academy, Dailey has a background
to rival any coach’s in the nation.
08
IMG BASKETBALL Academy 2012 | imgacademies.com/basketball-academy
After a standout prep career, Dailey chose the
University of Texas and Coach Jody Conradt, which
resulted in four conference championships and one
Final Four appearance. Conradt, one of the mostwinning coaches in NCAA women’s basketball
history, helped shape Dailey then and continues to
do so today.
Says Dailey: “I’ve been around some of the world’s
best coaches – for both men and women – and I
still haven’t found anyone who can rival her.”
After graduating, Dailey spent eight years in the
fashion industry, but the pull of basketball proved
too tough. She spent time as an assistant for the
University of Florida, South Carolina and Texas
A&M, as well as the WNBA’s San Antonio Silver
Stars.
It was the potential she saw to play a key role in
the development of young athletes, though, that
brought her to IMG Academies four years ago.
Since arriving, her balanced approach to coaching
– discipline mixed with caring and respect – has
already helped in sending players to schools
like Florida, Colorado State, Marshall, Nevada,
Syracuse and UCLA to name just a few.
It’s that influential role Dailey plays in assisting
girls to reach their dream of playing D-I basketball
that continues to drive her.
“The opportunities here are limitless,” she said.
“When college coaches come here to scout, they
see a kid who already knows how to balance a
schedule and what it is like to live away from home.
They know our players are ‘ready’ for anything
that college life throws at them because they have
already experienced it at IMG.”

POINT GUARD
Caleb

T
There’s an old basketball adage
that goes like this: The point
guard is an extension of the
head coach on the court.
12
IMG BASKETBALL Academy 2012 | imgacademies.com/basketball-academy
For IMG Basketball Academy senior Caleb
Tannehill, the point guard description is even
more accurate given his desire to coach in the
future.
“I’ve always been interested in getting into
coaching,” said Tannehill, a captain of the IMG
Basketball Academy national team. “Maybe even
becoming a GM. I love the idea of strategizing to
build a successful team.”
After spending most of his youth in Seattle,
Tannehill tore his rotator cuff and needed a
facility that could help him recover and help
him reach his childhood goal of playing D-I
basketball. Enter IMG Academies.
Tannehill enrolled as a junior, only to find himself
having to guard Phil Greene, one of the nation’s
top point guard prospects and eventual St. John’s
signee, every day in practice.
“It was really tough at first, but IMG just gives
you so much confidence to succeed,” he said.
“You see players that you compete against every
day going to places like St. John’s or Kansas or
UConn, and you think, ‘I can play at that level.’”
Off the court, Tannehill watches games on
television to see how his favorite coaches like
Kentucky’s John Calipari, Washington’s Lorenzo
Romar and Gonzaga’s Mark Few run their teams.
“I love coaches who run a fast-paced offense,
encourage the team to play together and earn
the respect of their players,” he said. “That’s the
kind of coach I want to be.”

Alyssa
Mann
On an off day, you may find IMG
Basketball Academy senior Alyssa
Mann fishing the Gulf of Mexico or
driving her truck to Jacksonville for
a surf session.
Make no mistake, though, of her one driving
passion.
“Basketball is my life,” she says. “I don’t know
what I’d do without it.”
The youngest of four growing up in Austin, Texas,
Mann first attended an IMG Basketball Academy
camp at 10 years old. Fast-forward to her
freshman year, and Mann decided to leave her
friends and family in Texas and enroll as an
IMG Basketball Academy student-athlete.
“I was nervous at first, but everyone was
like a family. As soon as I stepped on the
court, everyone took me in.”
Mann soon excelled in the Academy
environment. In the gym working on her game
almost incessantly, Mann attracted attention
from multiple D-I schools before accepting a
scholarship offer from Charleston Southern.
As far as the future, she hopes to start as a
freshman and become one of the top players in
the nation before playing in the WNBA. After that,
she wants to utilize her proficiency in math and
science to become a marine biologist.
Wherever her career takes her, Mann knows she
will be prepared.
“IMG has helped become so much more mature
on and off the court,” she said. “I’ve learned so
many great life skills.”

Message to IMG Basketball Academy Students:
Level of competition in Pac-12:
Favorite Basketball Moment:
Choosing to go to Stanford:
Regardless of how tough practices are now, how bad
you think it is, or how much you want it to be over, you
will miss it. You will always appreciate your opportunity
at the academy so make sure you make the best of it.
Not everyone gets this opportunity so keep your head
up and it will be worth it.
It’s hard for me to name one but I would have to say
my first Stanford-Cal game in my freshman year. The
fact that it was on our home court made it even more
special. It was very intense.
Returning from injury:
The hardest thing about injuries is having to sit on the
sidelines. I had a serious ankle sprain that took me out
of a couple of practices and games and that was really
hard on me. To watch my team and not be able to play
hit me hard. Injuries are always hard to deal with and
you never know when they can come around.
There is no better motivation to play well than playing against someone who thinks they are better
than you. You always want to prove them wrong.
The competition always makes you better and
keeps you working hard. You cannot rest and expect to beat teams, competition keeps you honest.
Picking a college was a big decision for me to
make. I had a lot of support from my family and the
coaches at IMG Academies. They helped me gather
a lot of information early so I was able to make a
smart decision. It was tough narrowing down the
schools but it was very easy for me when
it came time to sign my Letter of
Intent. I made the right decision
and I am very happy at Stanford.
IMG Academies helping prepare you for college:
There is no better place to prepare you for college. The
schedule for both sports and school is tough but they
do not just throw you into it, there is always a group of
people there to help you. I learned great time management due to everything that we were expected to do.
IMG Academies and basketball development:
Nothing compares to it. We played a national schedule against some of the best talent in the country. We
always had pros coming in to help us train and we ran
a lot of the same drills as college teams. Everyone was
there to get better, the guy beside you wants you to get
better, we were all invested in each other.
Decision to come to IMG Academies:
There were not a lot of opportunities to move on and
get noticed in Canada. A lot of my teammates were
leaving to come to America and my coach recommended that I follow to get more exposure. I decided
on IMG Academies and stayed for 3 years.
Being around great sports programs on
Stanford campus:
The atmosphere is crazy. The success of the other
teams keeps us motivated to work hard. We cheer
them on but we do not want to be taken over by them.
Our girls’ soccer team just won the NCAA Championship and our football team is having a great year with
Andrew Luck.
