Sophomore Madison Learned scored the first goal of the Championship game with eight minutes left in the half to put the Sabers up 1 - 0. Early in the second half, Hanover tied the game at 1 to 1 and the score remained tied throughout the rest of the regulation time putting the game into pver time. Sophomore Peyton Kent, who assisted on Madison Learned, scored the game winner with 12:20 left in the first over time period. Peyton scored on a direct kick, which sailed into the high corner of the net to give the Sabers the 2011 Championship which is the THIRTEENTH Souhegan Girls’ Soccer Championship. Sophomore Mikaela Sullivan was called on to make only one save and that save was OUTSTANDING, as she made the diving save three quarters of the way into the first half. The Souhegan defense was solid throughout the game and the tournament as senior Shelby Belak and freshmen Cara Griffith played well. In addition to the team’s thirteenth title, it was head coach Dwayne Andreasen’s 100 career victory. Semi-Finals vs Bedford Souhegan Girls’ Soccer Team Advances To Finals The Souhegan Girls’ Soccer team advanced to the finals of the Division I NHIAA Finals as the Sabers defeated the Bedford Bulldogs 2 to 1 in overtime. With less than 10 second remaining in the game, sophomore Peyton Kent scored the tying goal. After the Souhegan Sabers had trailed a majority of the second half (approximately 39 minutes) Peyton found a loose ball at the top of the box and scored. In over time, freshmen Cara Griffith scored the game winning goal after only 1 minute and 33 sec- onds of over time. The Sabers will play in the finals on Saturday at 4:30 on the Larkin Field at Southern New Hamsphire University (Manchester) against Hanover. Hanover defeated Souhegan in a come from behind over time games earlier in the season by the score of 3 to 2. In previous action the Sabers advanced in Division II tournament play. The Souhegan High School girls’ soccer team, ranked number one, defeated the eighth seeded John Stark Generals of Weare 1 to 0 to advance to the semi finals of the Division II NHIAA tournament. In what was a tense game throughout the eight minute contest, the Sabers’ lone goal was scored with five minutes left in the contest on a goal by senior Caroline Stone. Cara Griffith assisted on the game winning goal. Sophomore Mikaela Sullivan was in net to register the shut out. She made five saves on the day. The team defense was outstanding, led by senior Shelby Belak. Sophomore Madison Learned led the Sabers offensive attack. Souhegan then went to the semi finals Thursday, November 3rd against the number four ranked, Bedford Bulldogs. Senior Captain, Caroline Stone scored two goals on the night. Sabers Shut-Out Generals, 7-0 The Souhegan Girls’ Soccer team defeated Coe Brown Academy of Northwood 7 to 0. The win advances the top seed Sabers to the second round of the Division II play-offs vs John Stark Generals of Weare. The Sabers offensive attack was led by sophomore Peyton Kent who had two and assisted on three of her teammates goals. Also scoring for the Sabers were senior Caroline Stone (2 goals), Junior Agnes Chretien, Sarah Lafleur and sophomore Madison Learned, Sophomore Korina Hahn, Junior Morgan Ireland and senior Erin MacDonald each had an assist. In goal, sophomore Mikaela Sullivan turned in the shut out with ten saves.
