Shawn Lane has been recognized as the fastest guitar player ever, but from our point
of view, he was primarily a composer of melodies that deeply reached the soul.
We made a unique Excalibur guitar for him which features a flat fingerboard with
probably the lowest string action in guitar-making history.
He played this guitar from the day he got it, until the day he sadly died in 2003.
We kindly thank his family for allowing us to continue building Shawn's signature
guitar series.
Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal is THE guitarist of this generation. He has inspired musicians worldwide
with his extraordinary technical skills and, simply stated, he has conquered the guitar. In addition
to being an amazing player, Ron has proven himself as a prolific composer and arranger.
The Bfoot features a 5-way custom pickup selector switch, a killswitch to create special effects, and
a tremolo that rests on the body.
Bumblefoot's inventiveness made use of a sewing thimble for playing slide guitar. The removable
thimble has been conveniently placed on the guitar body for quick access.
Finally, to continue in unconventional style, this series has two different logos.

The master element of the guitar's sound and
comfort is the neck. It always receives
particular attention every time we develop new
concepts to improve its performance. Because
the neck is hand finished, each one can be
verified by our luthiers. They will make sure
nothing was overlooked. And our reputation is
proof that your hands will feel it!
A zero fret has always been fitted on all of our
instruments. This slightly higher fret balances
open or fretted string notes, ensures perfect
string height and minimizes string friction to
help avoid detuning when using the tremolo.
We've been able to harden it so it lasts longer
and made it removable so it's easier to replace
if needed.

To manufacture the neck, we use the same
maple wood selected by great classical
instrument makers for centuries. This wood is
cut in Europe's forests and dried naturally
before it will be used. The humidity level is
strictly controlled while it is stored.

10/90 Neck System™
This exclusive advanced concept of 10%
carbon and 90% wood replaces the traditional
metal truss rod with a dense carbon strip to
reinforce the neck. Employed for over 20 years
on all Vigier guitars and basses, this concept
makes the neck strong and stable during
climate change. To get a full sound, we never
believed it was logical to drill a hole through a
neck and then insert a rod of metal inside.
Necks with the 10/90 System are solid, notes
ring longer, and your sound is powerful and
precise. Wood necks with truss rods are too
flexible; they absorb the energy of the string
and shorten sustain. Our 10/90 Neck System
also contributes to tuning stability because
with wood necks, the metal truss rod rubs and
causes detuning problems while using the
tremolo.
Finish
A matte varnish is sprayed on every Excalibur,
Expert or Excess neck in order to completely
protect the wood, as well as enhance its feel
and play.

Delta Metal™ fretless fingerboard
For the accomplished musician who wants to
enter the discipline of fretless playing, we
developed the Delta Metal fingerboard in 1979.
Gold in color, it is immediately striking and
features a hard surface that will stay even for a
long period of time. It produces sustain
comparable to fretted instruments and is rich in
harmonics. Exclusively available on 4-string
bass models and 6-string guitars.
A Teflon nut guides the strings and dramatically
reduces friction at the nut, where tuning
problems are most likely to occur. Strings will
glide effortlessly and come back in tune when
players are using the tremolo or bending
strings.
It is easily replaceable and players will be able
to make any necessary changes on their own
instruments and select the nut that best fits their
preferred string gauge.
Fingerboard and frets
Each fingerboard is rectified to the one
hundredth of a millimeter to ensure it's
exceptionally straight. Frets will then be fitted,
also rectified and polished meticulously.
A Phenowood™ fingerboard is used on the
Arpege, Passion and Marilyn models. Its
physical strength and stability offer excellent
wear resistance, high response, plus neat and
accurate fretting.
Traditional maple or rosewood fingerboards are
your choice for Excess, Expert or Excalibur
models.
10/90 Neck System™

On guitars with a non-locking tremolo one of the
detuning problems occurs from the string
retainer located between the nut and the
machine heads. When using the tremolo, there
is friction at this level. We have eliminated any
friction by making the string retainer flexible; it
goes backwards when you push the tremolo
down and goes forwards when you pull it. It
almost works like the pendulum clock; it is
simple and yet very efficient!

Available in 4- or 5- string, the Passion has the
main construction characteristics of the Arpege
model. Its differences are the pickups that are
set close together and the electronic system
includes a balance control and 3-band
equalizer. The sound of the Passion is unique
and can be percussive with a lot of headroom.
Comfort
Finish
When we design the shape, we keep in mind
the harmony between the player and the
guitar. The perfect balance of the instrument
is achieved by aligning the neck with the
axis of the human body. Our guitars weigh
approximately 3Kg and are undoubtedly one
of the lightest in their category. So, for those
who play spectacular, action-filled concerts,
or just perform endlessly, we are positive
that you'll appreciate the manageability and
light weight.
The summit of quality is shown in our
finishes. Our master finisher sprays over 10
thin coats of varnish between numerous
sanding procedures. A minimum amount of
varnish is sprayed to avoid oversealing the
wood so it can vibrate, yet be protected like
on an acoustic instrument. After, we will wait
at least one month before we proceed with
the final sanding and polishing. This is state
of the art. Please refer to the end of the
catalog for the standard colors available on
each model.

Depending on the models, we can use alder, maple, or ash. Selected in Europe's forests, these
woods are real and solid. They are dried naturally for years in our factory before we cut them. The
body is made up of only two center-joined pieces, not four, or sometimes even seven pieces, like
industrial makers often use in construction.

For your playing comfort, the saddles are
hand-adjusted to precisely match the radius of
the fingerboard.
For your convenience, the angle of the tremolo
arm can be set while you're playing and
removed easily when you are not. Finally, the
Allen keys have been neatly fitted at the rear of
the headstock.

Similar to the Excalibur Surfreter, a flat mount
fixed bridge is available on the Excalibur
Supra, Excalibur Special and the Expert
guitars. It is fully adjustable and features
through-body stringing.
On the Marilyn model, a solid bridge and
tailpiece combination has been fitted.
The G.V. is equipped with Vigier's proprietary
bridge and tailpiece. State of the art in design,
once your setup is done, this bridge can be
locked in place to provide better sustain and

A solid, quick-release bridge was specially
designed to fit the Vigier bass series. To
change strings, you simply lift them away. The
saddles are set in individual tracks and have
independent height and intonation adjustment.
To help remove extraneous noise or setup
problems, the saddles are locked into position
once adjustments are complete.

These non-locking tremolos are set on the Excalibur Supra, Special, Indus, Ultra and the Expert
for guitarists that are looking for a rich and crunchy sound. The perfect tuning and stability is also
ensured through the locking machine heads that are precisely aligned with the strings, by our
traditional zero fret and by our FlexretainerTM. Another important detail is the short distance
between the bridge saddle and the place where the string is anchored. Also, each saddle can be
locked into position once intonation is set, and a small roller is located at the string break point to
minimize friction. They have as much tuning stability as most guitars equipped with a Floyd Rose.

Details
Before any pickup is mounted on a Vigier, it's
entirely controlled. Another small, but
important, detail is that most standard
humbuckers have two adjustment screws.
However, we took the time to add a third screw
so that height or tilt adjustments can be made
easily, and equal distance between the strings
and the coils cam be achieved.
We sprayed conductive paint inside the
electronic cavity, and depending on the model,
the backplate or the pickguard, to reduce hum
when playing at high volumes.
All basses have active electronics and are
powered by two 9V batteries.
