An outstanding natural area - The Pays des Sources is at the foot of the Hautes-
Fagnes, Belgium’s finest nature reserve. It offers countless possibilities for walking,
horse-riding or cycling in the fens, the forest and the surrounding countryside. You’ll find
some magnificent scenery and some outstanding natural sites.

Traditions and folklore - The Pays des Sources is greatly attached to its history
and to keeping up traditions. A wide variety of events are organised to carry on the
region’s traditions: the “Vieux Métiers” (Old Trades) in Sart revives rural life in the early
20th century, the “Franche Foire” offers a reconstruction of medieval life in Franchimont castle, the “Laetare de Stavelot et ses Blancs-Moussis” is the finest carnival
procession in the region, the “Bal aux Lampions” is an old-style dance…

Jalhay-Sart is situated at the foot of the Hautes-Fagnes (High Moors) in one of the most beautiful
nature reserves in Belgium. Numerous footpaths, secluded pathways and bicycle trails cross our forests

Surrounding the site of an abbey classified as an Exceptional Heritage Site of Wallonia, Stavelot has the
appearance of an 18th century town with its majestic main square, its stone and half-timbered houses,
its alleyways and fountains. At this historic and cultural heart of the Haute Ardenne are three museums, a
treasure of religious art, the historical site of the Battle of the Ardenne in December 1944 and a full cultural
programme with international festivals of music, theatre, chanson française, jazz and story telling.
Like everywhere in the Pays des Sources (Land of Springs), water has carved an exceptional landscape as
in the beautiful Amblève valley with foaming fountains and washing troughs , old water mills by lively rivers,
ancient tanneries, streams and ponds.
In Stavelot, the Fountain of Wolves dating from 1769 has an exceptional chronogram.
The large Stavelot forest, born in the fens of Francorchamps and Hockai, is cut by the Amblève river which
gushes from the Waterfall of Coo.
It offers dozens of kilometres of walks to discover peaceful hamlets, forgotten mills and legendary stones
set in the heart of the most beautiful landscape of the Ardenne.

Rund um den Sitz einer Abtei, die als „außergewöhnliches Kulturerbe Walloniens“ unter Schutz gestellt
wurde, hat Stavelot das gut erhaltene Bild eines mittelalterlichen Städtchens aus dem 18. Jahrhundert
zu bieten, mit ihrer majestätischen Grand-Place, ihren Stein- und Fachwerkhäusern, ihren Gässchen und
Brunnen.
Als historisches und kulturelles Zentrum der Hochardennen verfügt Stavelot insbesondere über 3 Museen,
einen religiösen Kunstschatz, historische Schauplätze der Ardennenoffensive von Dezember 1944 und permanente kulturelle Animation mit internationalen Musik-, Theater, Chanson-, Jazz- und Märchenfestivals.
So wie überall im Land der Quellen, hat das Wasser ein außergewöhnliches Erbe geschaffen, wie z.B. im
schönen Ameltal wo Brunnen und Waschplätze, alte Mühlen an fröhlichen Flüssen und alte Gerbereien,
Bäche und Weiher nur so sprießen. In Stavelot enthält der „Wolfsbrunnen“ von 1769 noch ein außergewöhnliches Chronogramm.
Der große Wald von Stavelot, hervorgegangen aus den Vennflächen von Francorchamps und Hockai, wird
durch die Amel in zwei Teile geschnitten, die am Wasserfall von Coo so richtig in Fahrt kommt. Er hat eine
Vielzahl von Spazierwegen zu bieten, die zur Entdeckung von friedlichen Weilern, vergessenen Mühlen und
legendären Steinen einladen, die im Herzen der schönsten Landschaften der Ardennen eingefasst sind.

Charming rural community situated at the foothills of the Ardenne, 10 mins from Spa and at the intersection of
regions as different as the Pays de Herve, the Plateau Ardennais or the Pays de l’Ourthe. Theux will surprise you by
its idiosyncrasies in history, culture and geography, but also by its old village farms, manors and castle. Theux is a
listed historic centre known for its beautiful architecture dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. You can admire
the Perron (symbol of freedom) and the famous church of Saint Hermès and Alexandre, dating from 11th century,
the old bridge at Polleur, … Passing through more than ten villages: Jehanster - La Reid - Polleur - Hodbomont Marché - Oneux - Spixhe... you will discover the pleasure of spending time in the countryside.
With more than 20 possible walks you will marvel at the colours of spring and summer and at the shimmering
landscapes of autumn. The fauna is ever present and you are likely to meet hinds, stags or wild boar crossing your
path. You will also be surprised by the diversity of the flora, in its natural state such as in the woods and the fens
or worked by man such as in the Charmille. There are also underground streams, caves and their legends, the
Chafour, the mineral springs, the magnificent walks, the superb view points.
In Theux, there are also attractions such as the animal park (Forestia) with its adventure park for big and small and
at Franchimont, the ruins of the 11th century medieval castle. In the communal mill, entirely restored, you will be
initiated into the ancient techniques and traditions of agricultural life.
Whether you spend one or many days in Theux, you will be seduced by its charm and conviviality and you will not
