Warwick will welcome an estimated 30,000 visitors to the 23rd annual Applefest on
Sunday, October 2, from 10 am to 5 pm. The festival will host over 240 craft and food
vendors, a variety of free live-stage performances including music and dance groups,
carnival rides for children, and an apple pie baking contest.
On the Friday and Saturday before Applefest, families can also enjoy rides, music
and food when the Warwick Valley Community Center hosts two fun pre-Applefest
Carnival evenings at Stanley-Deming Park. The Carnival will be open on Friday,
September 30 from 5 pm to 10 pm; and Saturday, October 1 from 4 pm to 10 pm, with
a $15 wristband price on those two evenings only.

Chamber Supports St. Anthony Hospital at Awards
Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce President Garrett Durland represented
the Chamber on August 11, 2011 as hospital administration and employees gathered to
celebrate the hospital’s prestigious national award for patient satisfaction. St. Anthony
Community Hospital was in the top 15% for the nation and top 10% for the state.
October is National Arts and Humanities Month
In celebration of National Arts and Humanities month, the Orange County Arts
Council encourages Chamber members to take advantage of the art related events and
activities happening this month. The Orange County Open Studio Tour South will be
held the weekend of October 22 & 23 with an opening reception on Friday, October 21
at the Seligmann Estate in Sugar Loaf. The tour is self-guided of local performing and
visual art studios and venues. Maps may
be found in local libraries, restaurants
and shops. Fifty-one Orange County artists will be opening their doors to demonstrate their work and engage people in the

Great Jazz & Farm Aid
Warwick Valley Jazz Festival musicians performed at the Warwick Farm
Aid Benefit on Sunday, September 25 to
bring in funding for this worthy cause.
The Warwick Valley Jazz Festival
was held in August for the second smooth
year, and turned out to be quite a successful four-day event. The great American
musical art form, better known as jazz,
was celebrated in a host of local venues—
heard in such popular Warwick haunts
as Coquito, The Dautaj, Warwick
Grove, and Utopian Direction Books &
Art. The Village of Warwick Concert
Series and the Music in the Courtyard
Concert Series also held a coinciding fourteen-show festival this summer.
Festival organizer Steve Rubin wishes to
thank the venue owners, sponsors, audience, and the wonderful musicians who
made this all possible.

It is mid-September, and we are still recovering
from Hurricane Irene. Most of us are okay, but
our Black Dirt Farmers are suffering enormously
from ruined crops. As is typical of our wonderful
area, a grass roots fund-raising program was
instigated by Paul Caskey, Ray Bryant and
Cheryl Rogowski, titled Warwick Valley Farm Aid. In order to facilitate
distribution of the proceeds, an application process for farmers is currently
being developed. The Chamber assisted this worthy effort by collecting
credit card donations on our WVCC website, absorbing all of the credit
card fees. Thank you to all who came together to help our people in need –
it was truly appreciated!
On September 13th, after a stressful period of “nail-biting,” we were
blessed with a night of perfect weather for our 18th annual Taste of
Warwick. The 24 area restaurants provided a delectable variety of
samplings for nearly 300 guests. The event was enhanced by the Warwick
Valley Winery & Distillery’s new outdoor patio space, and the E’lissa Jones
Trio provided fabulous music, contributing to the memorable evening. A
heartfelt thank you goes out to this year’s major sponsors: St. Anthony’s
Community Hospital and Aspen Environmental.
The Warwick Merchant’s Guild has never been more active, and their
efforts have been exceptional thus far this year. Recent events included
the Sidewalk Sale and the quickly-becoming-famous Ladies’ Nite Out.
Enthusiastic congratulations are extended to all our hard-working
merchants.
Our 23rd Annual Applefest, true to form, promises to be a spectacular
event yet again. It is good to remember that many non-profit organizations
benefit from this one-day fund raiser every year.
To give you a little “heads-up” on upcoming fall Chamber events: Our
72nd Annual Chamber Dinner, November 12th at the Warwick Valley
Country Club, will be a “not to be missed” event. December 8th will see
our festive Holiday Mixer, this time being held at Catlin Garden’s new
facilities. Get your reservations in early for both celebrations. We hope to
see you there! As is my habit and pleasure, I’d like to share some Chamber
statistics for the last three months: 9 ribbon cuttings; 12 networking events;
31 new members. Speaking of networking… it’s a great idea and a proven
method of increasing awareness of who you are and what your business is
about. I hope to see you all at our fall luncheons, dinners, and mixers!

Shred Event Saturday October 8
Greater Hudson Bank, N.A. has had a busy third quarter, officially joining the Warwick Valley Rotary Club, serving beverages at the club’s Senior Barbecue. Greater Hudson Bank has
been elected to serve on the Citizen of the Year and Silent Auction
committee. Greater Hudson Bank will also host a Shred Event
on Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 9 am to Noon. Bring your
