Regisseurin Hella Joof wurde 1961 in Dänemark geboren. Sie absolvierte ein Schauspielstudium in Odense und arbeitete nach ihrem Abschluss 1990 für Theater, Film und Fernsehen. Ihr Regiedebüt „Shake It All
About“ erwies sich 2001 als Publikumshit – die Bisexuellenkomödie mit Mads Mikkelsen haben zehn Prozent aller Dänen gesehen. Die Rechte an ihrem zweiten Film „Oh Happy Day“ wurden 2004 von der Disney
Corporation für ein geplantes US-Remake erworben.
„Linas Tagebuch“ ist ihr vierter Spielfilm.
Director Hella Joof was born in 1961 in Denmark.
She graduated from acting school in Odense in 1990
and then worked for theatre, film and TV. Her directing debut “Shake It All About” in 2001 was a big success with the audience – ten percent of all Danish
people have seen the bisexual comedy starring Mads
Mikkelsen. The rights to her second film “Oh Happy
Day” were purchased by the Disney Corporation for
an intended US remake. “Bitter Sweetheart” is her
fourth feature film.

Bitter Sweetheart
Lina ist 15 und ein ganz normales Mädchen. Und genau das ist
ihr Problem. Sie ist normal hübsch und trägt ganz normale Klamotten. Ihre exaltierten Schulfreundinnen ziehen sich viel auffälliger an, außerdem prahlen sie schon mit sexuellen Erfahrungen.
Und genau das ist Linas zweites Problem: Lina ist noch Jungfrau.
Und weil das nicht so bleiben kann, hört sie auf die Ratschläge ihrer Freundinnen und gibt dem unbeholfenen Werben eines Mitschülers nach. Danne ist ein Eishocky-Crack und nicht besonders
sensibel, der Sex mit ihm ist für Lina eher unangenehm. Eigentlich schwärmt sie ja auch viel mehr für den gut aussehenden Außenseiter Ivar, doch der ist zwei Klassen unter ihrer. Außerdem
scheint er eine Freundin zu haben. Alles ist so aussichtslos, bis
Lina eines Tages allen Mut zusammennimmt und Ivar ihre Liebe
gesteht. Freimütig schildert die Regisseurin Hella Joof die Gefühlsverwirrungen einer 15-Jährigen zwischen himmelhochjauchzend
und zu Tode betrübt. Dabei ist „Bitter Sweetheart“, trotz der realistischen Konflikte, in die Lina gerät, ein ausgesprochen farbiger
und fantasievoller Film – „Prädikat bittersüß“.
Lina is a 15-year old, totally normal girl. And that is exactly where
the problem lies. She has normal looks and wears normal clothes.
Her exalted school friends dress more ostentatiously, and also
they brag about first sexual encounters. And that is exactly where
Lina’s second problem lies: Lina is still a virgin. And because this
has got to change, she listens to her friends’ advise and gives in
to the awkward suiting of a fellow pupil: Danne is an ace at ice
hockey and not exactly sensitive. The sex they have does not feel
so good for Lisa. Besides, she has more of a crush on Ivar, the
good-looking outsider, but he is two grades beneath her. And he
appears to have a girlfriend. Everything seems so hopeless, until
Lina musters up the courage to confess her love to Ivar. Director Hella Joof gives a frank account of the confused feelings of
a 15-year-old, between over the moon and down in the dumps.
All the while “Bitter Sweetheart” is a decidedly colourful and imaginative film, despite the realistic conflicts that Lina is confronted with – rated “bittersweet”.
