länger gewünscht und kommuniziert. Nach reiflicher Überlegung
und in Absprache mit dem Vorstand hat sich nun auch Frédéric
Bächtold entschlossen, zu diesem Termin sein Amt ebenfalls zur
Verfügung zu stellen. So kann der Generationenwechsel in der
pädagogischen Leitung auf ein Mal stattfinden, eine neue Generation kann gemeinsam beginnen, was von Vorstand und Leitung
positiv bewertet wird.
Das nach heutigen Kriterien übliche Auswahlverfahren für
die US-Leitung ist bereits abgeschlossen. Der Vorstand hat sich für
einen ehemaligen Mitarbeiter entschieden, der die Konzeption der
Schule kennt und von ihr überzeugt ist, die Qualitäten für diese
Leitungsposition hat und zudem ein breites fachliches Wissen und
Erfahrungsspektrum mitbringt. Da für ihn noch eine Arbeitsbewilligung eingeholt werden muss, als US-Bürger, wollen wir seinen
Namen hier noch nicht nennen. Wir hoffen, dass das verstanden
wird. Die Ausschreibung der Stelle für die Leitung des CH-Systems
ist erfolgt. Der Vorstand hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt eine gute, qualifizierte Nachfolge bis Herbst 2008 zu finden, damit genügend Zeit
für die Einarbeitung bleibt.
Mit diesen Schritten wird die vorgegebene Zielstruktur zum
Schuljahresbeginn 2009/2010 umgesetzt sein. Wir sind überzeugt,
dass eine qualifizierte Leitung zur Verfügung stehen wird, um die
Werte und Qualitäten der Schule in die Zukunft zu tragen und den
Wandel im Bildungswesen nach den Leitideen der Schule anzugehen. Ein Generationenwechsel findet, gut und sorgfältig geplant,
nach unserer Ansicht, im richtigen Moment statt.
Die Zurücktretenden werden der Schule als erfahrene Lehrpersonen, Familienhäupter, Tutoren und Bereichsverantwortliche
weiterhin zur Verfügung stehen.
Information zum Verfahren wegen des Lawinenunglücks vom 14. März 2006
Die Gerichtsverhandlung wurde auf den 29. August 2008
festgesetzt. Wir sind froh, wenn diese lange und belastende Zeit
nach über zwei Jahren zu Ende geht und hoffen auf eine sachgerechte Beurteilung durch die Experten und den Einzelrichter. Wir
sind soweit vorbereitet, dass unabhängig vom Urteil die Geschicke
der Schule gesichert sind.

News from the Director of the U.S. Program
Veränderungen in der Leitung der Schule –
Generationenwechsel.
Die jetzige Leitung der Schule wurde 1995 vom Vorstand eingesetzt. Bis dahin gab es eine 3er-Leitung. Um die Arbeit und die
Verantwortung auf mehrere Schultern zu verteilen, wurde die
Leitung an fünf Personen übertragen. Sarah Hudspith und Frédéric Bächtold übernahmen die Leitung des CH-Systems, Kathleen
Hennessy und K.C. Hill diejenige des US-Systems. Als Geschäftsführer amtierte weiterhin Hans Willi, der diese Funktion seit 1979
innehatte. Zum Schuljahr 2005/2006 verliess Kathleen Hennessy
die Leitung auf eigenen Wunsch, K.C. Hill übernahm die alleinige
Verantwortung für das US-System. Nach dem Lawinenunglück im
März 2006 trat K.C. aus der Leitung zurück und Kathleen Hennessy
übernahm ad interim wieder dieses Amt. In dieser Zusammensetzung wird die Schule heute geleitet.
Im Zuge des Krisen- und Qualitätsmanagements wurde die
Leitungsstruktur der Schule mit dem Ergebnis reflektiert, dass
eine kleinere Leitung Vorteile bringen könnte, z.B. mehr Klarheit
in den Zuständigkeiten. Nach einer eingehenden Analyse hat der
Vorstand dieses Anliegen aufgenommen und die Zielstruktur mit
3 Personen festgelegt: Leitung CH- und US-System und Geschäftsführung bilden die Bereiche. Um die Aufgaben und Verantwortungen weiterhin professionell wahrnehmen zu können, wurde ein
erweiterter Leitungskreis mit den Bereichen Internat, didaktische
Leitung CH- und US-System geschaffen.
Wie möglicherweise schon bekannt ist, teilweise haben wir
darüber informiert, sind Veränderungen schon vollzogen oder
sind in Bearbeitung. Ein Generationenwechsel steht an. Die 3.
Leitung nach Edith und Paul Geheeb soll die Schule in die Zukunft
führen.
Bereits zum Schuljahresbeginn 2007/8 konnte mit Dr. Barbara Hanusa die didaktische Leitung des CH-Systems besetzt
werden. Michael Schreier wurde vorerst als Projektleiter Qualitätsmanagement in die erweiterte Leitung berufen und wird ab
Schuljahr 2009/10 den Bereich Internat übernehmen, das hat die
Leitung bereits beschlossen. Beide bringen die Befähigung für
diese Bereiche mit.
Seit kurzem ist bekannt, dass die gesamte pädagogische
Leitung zum Schuljahr 2009/10 wechseln wird. Sarah Hudspith
und Kathleen Hennessy haben ihren Austritt aus der Leitung schon

It has been a big spring for the school and yet, the school continues to flow in a strong current such that even historic occurrences
rush past as one paddles furiously to stay in the current. The first
marvellous achievement is that the school is now officially accredited! (see p.4) In April, the school had a visit from an external
accreditation team from CITA (Commission for International and
Trans-continental Accreditation). Two of the visitors had made
a preliminary visit last spring and they were very positive about
the Ecole, giving us valuable tips for what we still needed to do
for the decisive accreditation visit. When the four-person team
did come about a month ago, they were all enthusiastic about
the school and lauded our efforts, pedagogy, atmosphere, and
diversity. While we have received a certificate of accreditation,
we are still eagerly awaiting the detailed and, we understand,
very positive report. The visiting team was able to tell us at the
conclusion of their three-day stay, that we had passed all 12
standards as well as every indicator in each standard, which is
apparently highly unusual. Aren’t you proud to be associated
with such a school?!
And now the big news you’ve all been waiting for…a successor for my position as the director of the U.S. System has
been selected by the Board of Governors. We do not want to
mention his name as we do not yet have a work permit for him,
but we can say that he is a former teacher who was exceedingly
knowledgeable and inspiring in his area, as well as a highly
competent mountain guide and all-round mountaineer. He is of
impeccable character, and those of us who know him are excited
about having him return to the school. He and I are in frequent
communication by phone and e-mail, and he is already taking
on some tasks which are possible from a distance. It is a relief
and pleasure to be able to share the work with someone of his
vision, clarity, competence, and fine intelligence.
For myself, while I was hoping to step down this summer
already, I have agreed to continue for another year since I will
have assistance from across the ocean. In order to ease my
load, Sharon Miller-Horn, another former Ecole teacher who
met her husband here many years ago and so ended up staying
in Switzerland, will be coming with her family for one year as
Interim Dean of Academics. Sharon has been teaching foreign
languages in Swiss schools in the Basel area, and is thrilled to
have the opportunity to work at her beloved Ecole again. I, too,
am happy to have Sharon’s able assistance with the critical job
of guiding the academic work in the U.S. Program.
So, there are a few changes around here and I am very
excited about them. I feel confident that the school is headed in
a productive forward direction and am pleased to be part of it.
With your continued support of the school’s still unique vision
and concept, the Ecole will continue to flourish.

Ecole d‘Humanité achieves CITA Accreditation

It is a sign of the times that quality management, standards and
accreditation are expected of businesses, schools and other institutions. Natalie Lüthi created the American High School program
for the Ecole back in the 1950‘s. Every year for half a century the
Ecole has produced high school graduates who went on to study
successfully in colleges and universities in the United States and
indeed all around the world. Three years ago, for the first time, a
university in Berlin challenged one of our high school graduates,
refusing to recognize her high school graduation from the Ecole.
Two years ago another student had to choose a different Canadian
college to attend: one of them would not accept her because the
Ecole was not an accredited high school. Finally, the Association
of Swiss Private Schools decided five years ago, on 8 May 2004,
that all schools who wanted to continue to be members of the
Association had to become accredited.
These factors pushed us to contact the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA), an organization
that certifies schools around the world (so far, over 32,000 schools
in 100 countries). They sent us a wonderful woman named Noelle
Branch to help us prepare for the accreditation visit by a team of
experienced educators in April. They were totally impressed with
the Ecole and unanimously agreed that the Ecole is a school that
meets CITA‘s standards. Our official certificate of accreditation
was sent by CITA’s Board of Governors on May 7.
With our new accreditation we are covered for all situations
such as the ones described in the first paragraph. I guess that
means we‘re finally “professional.“ I trust we can continue to be
an excellent school, too.

Es ist ein Zeichen der Zeit, dass man von Firmen, Schulen und
anderen Institutionen Qualitätsmanagement (Festlegen und
Einhalten von Standards) und Akkreditierung erwartet. Bereits
in den 1950er Jahren schuf Natalie Lüthi das «American High
School Program» für die Ecole. Seit einem halben Jahrhundert
hat die Ecole jedes Jahr SchülerInnen mit einem «High School
Diploma» entlassen, die erfolgreich an Colleges und Universitäten
der USA und sogar überall auf der Welt studierten. Vor drei Jahren
weigerte sich das erste Mal eine Universität in Berlin, das «High
School Diploma» einer Ecole-Schülerin anzuerkennen. Vor zwei
Jahren wurde eine andere Schülerin von einem der Colleges in
Kanada abgewiesen, da dieses ihr Diplom nicht anerkannte, weil
die Ecole nicht akkreditiert war. Schliesslich entschied sich die
Vereinigung der Schweizer Privatschulen vor fünf Jahren, dass alle
Schulen, die weiterhin Mitglied der Vereinigung bleiben wollen,
eine Akkreditierung vorweisen müssen.
Diese Gründe drängten uns dazu, Kontakt mit der «Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation» (CITA)
aufzunehmen, eine Organisation, die Schulen in der ganzen Welt
zertifiziert (bislang über 32 000 Schulen in 100 Ländern). Die CITA
sandte uns Noelle Branch, die uns wunderbar auf die Zertifizierung vorbereitete, die schliesslich im April von einem Team von
erfahrenen Pädagogen vorgenommen wurde. Sie waren sehr
beeindruckt von der Ecole und einigten sich einstimmig darauf,
dass die Ecole als Schule die Standards der CITA erfüllt. Unser
offizielles Akkreditierungszertifikat wurde uns am 7 Mai vom
«Board of Governors» zugesandt.
Mit unserer neuen CITA-Akkreditierung sind wir nun bestens
für oben beschriebene Situationen ausgerüstet. Ich denke, das
heisst, wir sind endlich «professionell», und ich vertraue darauf,
dass wir auch weiterhin eine hervorragende Schule sein werden.

Barbara Etter widmet sich ihrem eigenen Töpferatelier in Meiringen und gibt leider keine Keramik- und Tonkurse mehr an
der Ecole.

The sister organisation of the Ecole - Lüthi-Peterson Camps
- will be holding their 60th anniversary celebration in the Ecole
from July 3–6. The camps were founded by Natalie Lüthi right
after World War II, in 1948, and many one time campers, counselors, and directors have been and still are students, helpers
and staff in the Ecole. At Present the following: Natalie and

Ich wollte einfach ein Gespür
für Falten bekommen und dachte mir das ist die beste Lösung!
Mit hell und dunkel Kontrast und den roten

unheimlich viel Zeit gebraucht, aber um so mehr
bin ich auf das Endergebnis stolz.

Ich habe schon

die Ecole kam,
hatte ich das
erste Mal richtig

doch wir wussten, dass die Lehrerin die Ecole verlassen würde, so

Ausstellung
Das Schmieden
des Schwertes war
eine aufwendige
Prozedur, die aber
sehr viel Spass
gemacht hat. Einer
der spannendsten
Augenblicke war
das Härten des Schwertes, weil
man nicht genau wusste, ob das
Schwert sich biegen würde, und
das hätte die ganze Arbeit von
Tagen kaputtgemacht.
Es war ein schönes Erlebnis, das Fertigstellen des Schwertes, weil so viel
Arbeit und Herzblut darin steckte.

First I made the overall
shape of the leaf on two
separate plates and sawed
them out. On one of them
I sawed out a little design,
then placed them back
together and soldered them onto each other.
When the outer piece was finished, I put the
enamel in the spaces.
This necklace was the first thing I have made
in silver.

I have finally come to the point
where I feel that I can control
the flow of glass and use my inspiration freely, my designs are
growing. I love to make big hollow beads with many dots and
many combinations of bright
colours. I concentrate mainly on
the centre piece of the necklace and then make
the necklace beautiful and fun.

goodbye to someone, when the last
thing you said to

close to enough for
my friend Peter. Out
of everyone I know,
including myself, he
was the one who
deserved everything
great in this world,
and it’s just not fair
that it was taken
from him so early. He had so many plans, like a trip to Holland this
summer with his friend James, a camping trip to Canada with his
best friend Cory, and starting his freshman year at St. Lawrence
University. He was even just a few days shy of his first trip to Paris.
My days with Peter were never boring. He was always telling
me a funny story or making a funny joke. I could sit with him for
hours (which I often did) and never sit through a dull moment. I
loved Peter’s eagerness to please people, always trying to keep
the moment light with a joke or a funny impersonation of someone. His ability to make people laugh and smile is something I will
always admire. He, without knowing it, was the spotlight in most
situations. He was joyful and optimistic about life, both inside and
outside of the Ecole.
I remember Peter coming home from a day of ski touring and
I asked him how it went. He said “I’m not going to lie; that was one
of the most physically challenging things I’ve ever done.” But then
he went on the next tour that was scheduled. There were so many
great things he still had left to accomplish, and it brings me to tears
to think he won’t be able to achieve such greatness. He once said,
after the 4 day hike he went on with Fränzi and Frédéric Bächtold
in October, that he wanted a marriage like that one day. A marriage
where he and his wife could just sit and talk about their day, their
kids, their life together, and never get bored. That is something he
had to look forward to. His Fränzi was out there, and I’m sad she
never got to meet him. Petey and I had a lot in common, like our
taste in music, our questionable dance moves, our fondness for
lame jokes, our love for Golden Retrievers, funny movies, and our
top secret “Friction Fives”. He always let me take naps on his bed
during mittagsruhe, and I started to feel like I was being intrusive.
Until one day he admitted that he liked when I took naps on his bed,
because then at night when he would go to sleep, his pillow would
smell like me. I guess he thought that wasn’t such a bad thing.
It was really special for me to be here with him the week
before his death. He was always so happy. He went snowboarding
almost every day. We ate dinner together almost every night, and
had such a great time just sharing each other’s company. He was
the happiest I’ve seen him in that last week, and I’m glad it was
then that he had to go. He was my best friend here, and it kills me
to think that I didn’t say it as often as I should have when I still had
the chance to. Even though I have only known Peter since August,
he has made such a positive impact on my life. I’m truly blessed that
I was able to share my past year with such an amazing person. Like
the quote from one of his favourite songs says: “I’m glad I didn’t
die before I met you…” I am sincerely grateful I got to meet you,
Peachy. I love you, I’ll miss you. “Jennie Sue Bissou”

Spring
Un mardi ensoleillé, au début du mois de mai, à 12.20 précisément, toutes les têtes des «écolianers» se sont tournées vers la
place des sports, parce que les Neuchâtelois sont arrivés. «Who
are they? What are they doing here?» De telles questions étaient
demandées par tout le monde.
En fait, avec ces Neuchâtelois, il s’agissait d’un groupe d’élèves de l’Ecole secondaire de Neuchâtel. Durant la semaine intensive,
un groupe d’écolianers les avaient visités dans leur Ecole et durant
deux trimestres nous avons écrit des lettres pour apprendre le français et eux pour apprendre l’allemand. Pour nous, c’était un plaisir
d’avoir ces gens ici. Je me rappelle que j’étais très nerveux quand
les Neuchâtelois étaient ici. Mais après une première rencontre sur
la place principale où on avait fait quelques jeux et une première
présentation pour mieux se connaître, le temps a passé trop vite.
Les élèves de Neuchâtel ont reçu des «guides personnels» qui
leur montraient l’Ecole. Pour les cours de l’après-midi, ils nous ont
alors accompagnés dans nos cours pour découvrir notre système
scolaire. Malgré quelques difficultés, on a trouvé des places pour
nos visiteurs où ils pouvaient participer aux cours: Ils ont fait du
bois avec Micha, le Yoga avec Till, du Mosaïque avec Verena, du
Volley avec Roman et Jurina, du Rugby avec Lena, du Djembé
avec René, les billes en verre avec Helen, etc. etc. Ca leur a fait
beaucoup de plaisir.
Après le troisième cours, tout le groupe de 24 personnes a
mangé dans la salle à manger. Je crois qu’ils n’ont pas beaucoup
apprécié l’attitude dans la salle à manger. Comme nous étions assis
avec toutes les personnes, quelques-uns portaient une casquette
ou un bonnet et des autres se sont embrassées à la table. Eux, ils
ne connaissaient pas ces habitudes de l’Ecole…

Skitouring 2008
Le soir, nous sommes montés une autre fois à la place des
sports où on a fait un feu et où on a joué des jeux divers. David
avait organisé un match de foot et Min avait appris que les Neuchâtelois étaient pas mal au Basket. Durant l’heure de silence, tous
les visiteurs et quelques écolianers ont dormi dans la grande salle
et on a vu le film «Die Herbstzeitlosen».
Durant le mercredi matin, on a pris les élèves dans nos cours
académiques. Ils l’ont aimé pour la plus grande partie, même
qu’ils pensaient que les heures étaient très logues. En chimie par
exemple, ils ont apprécié de pouvoir faire des expérimentations
parce que dans leur Ecole cela ne se fait pas.
Pour le repas de midi, les Neuchâtelois nous ont invités à
manger des Pizzas dans le restaurant à Wasserwendi. L’après-midi,
nous avons eu une excursion dans la gorges de l’Aar. Il faisait beau
temps et très chaud, donc c’était agréable parce que dans la gorge
il faisait un peu plus frais. Après la marche, le prof nous a offert
une glace et nous avons fait des photos sur le terrain de jeu.
Ensuite, les Neuchâtelois sont retournés chez eux et nous
sommes remontés au Hasliberg. Mais avant le départ, nous n’avons
pas oublié d’échanger les adresses e-mail.
Le feed-back de cet échange linguistique était très positif:
tous les Neuchâtelois avaient dit que l’Ecole est une Ecole spéciale
et très bonne, sauf les manières à la table (haha). Pour nous, la visite
était une bonne occasion pour appliquer nos connaissances de
français, pour se faire des nouveaux amis et des nouveaux ennemis.
Je pense c’est une bonne idée de faire des échanges linguistiques
pour améliorer la connaissance de la langue et apprendre quelque
chose d’une autre culture.

Konfirmationslager der Ecole d‘Humanité 2008

Am 10. Mai 2008 ist unser Konfirmandenunterricht ins Konfirmandenlager nach Brienzwiler gewandert. Wir liefen von Goldern
über Meiringen dorthin. Etwa um 19 Uhr kamen wir bei unserem
Aufenthaltsort an. Ein älteres Bauernpaar stellte uns ihr Strohlager
zur Verfügung. Wir richteten uns ein, assen Picknick und machten
uns einen gemütlichen Abend. Ein paar Kameradinnen gingen im
Bach neben dem Bauernhof schwimmen.
Am Pfingstsonntag standen wir um 5.30 Uhr auf. Wir fuhren nach Zürich in den Pfingstgottesdienst im Fraumünnster. Es
wurde viel gesungen. Der Pfarrer hat erzählt, warum Pfingsten
gefeiert wird und danach gab es ein Abendmahl, bei dem wir
allerdings nicht mehr dabei waren. Wir gingen an den Zürisee
und picknickten. Danach hatten wir frei und konnten in Zürich
spazieren. Um 14.30 Uhr trafen wir uns alle am Großmünster in
der Altstadt wieder. Dort verbrachten wir ca. 2 ½ Stunden und
mussten Fragen beantworten und abzeichnen …

Ein Teil der Gruppe ging auch auf den Turm herauf. Da hatten
wir eine gigantische Aussicht auf den Zürisee und die Stadt.
Als wir wieder bei unserem Lagerplatz angekommen waren,
grillten unsere Gastgeber für uns.
Am Pfingstmontag saßen wir morgens zusammen auf der
sonnigen Kuhwiese und sprachen über Pfingsten und die Pfingstandacht in der Ecole, die wir am Abend übernommen und als
Konfirmandengruppe organisiert hatten.
Zurück an der Ecole war es nach dem Abendessen soweit. Wir
hatten etwa 25 verschiedene SchülerInnen und MitarbeiterInnen,
die den Satz «Nun aber bleibt Glaube, Hoffnung, Liebe, diese
drei; am größten aber unter diesen ist die Liebe» (Bibel, 1. Kor.
13, 13) in ihrer Heimatsprache lasen. Zwischendurch haben wir als
Gruppe gesagt, was Liebe für uns ist. Unser «Lager» endete mit
einer Abschlussrunde, Tee und Chips.

It was November of 2007, and planning was already underway for
another Shakespeare production at the Ecole. After more than 40
years, our work was in progress again, this year with Natalie Lüthi,
Sara Gordon, and Jim Lowry. The decision was made to work with
“Taming of the Shrew,” a masterpiece of literature, and a demanding headache in terms of social and “political correctness!” Should
we write a “frame” piece? This would give us an opportunity to
add commentary and allow the students to add their own thoughts
to the work of Shakespeare. But the ratio of boys to girls in the
interested students gave us a new angle to explore.
We made the decision to switch genders in the play. Yes….
boys would play the parts of women, and girls the parts of men.
Of course, we have historical justification to switch parts, boys
played the parts of women for centuries. But this was different.
We did not want to introduce “drag and cabaret” to the Hasliberg, but instead just show

a group of students who spontaneously decide to put on a play,
each student grabbing a costume piece and throwing it over their
own jeans and tee shirts.
Thus our Community was treated with a feminine Petruchio
abusing a masculine Kate. People roared with laughter at first
seeing the boys in skirts and girls in jackets. No makeup or props
were used to confuse the issue. It was just plain boys and girls
playing opposite roles. Confusing?!? Perhaps, but it started off with
laughter, and ended in an uncomfortable kiss on the foot. As the
spotlight faded, we were all left with the impression that what we
saw that night was just wrong. The subjugation of any person by
another, regardless of sex (or any other number of variables you
wish to substitute), is just plain unacceptable.
And thus, with joy in our hearts, we stood on stage both
Saturday and Sunday,
enjoying applause and
warmth in the Grossen
Saal. We missed Natalie,
who was recuperating,
but secure in our knowledge that she was doing
well. Thank you Ecole

to once again listen to
a complete work of William Shakespeare. It is
not always easy. But we
try to make it an interesting

Alfred Poeschel †
Mit Alfred Poeschel ist am 1. Dezember ein Kollege von uns gegangen,
der zusammen mit einigen anderen
langjährigen Mitarbeitenden über
fast vier Jahrzehnte zur Stabilität und
zum Gedeihen der Ecole viel beigetragen hat. Er war 1956 noch von
Paulus zur Mitarbeit geholt worden,
und er blieb auch der neuen Leitung
bis zu seiner Pensionierung 1995 ein
loyaler Kollege. Alfred wird vor allem
den Schülern und Schülerinnen in
bester Erinnerung bleiben, die bei ihm in Geschichte und Latein
auf die Maturitätsprüfungen vorbereitet worden sind und die dort
- wohl ohne Ausnahme - gute Noten erreichten. Im immer etwas
gefährdeten Maturaprogramm war er der ruhende feste Pol und
nicht nur dafür schuldet ihm die Ecole dauernden Dank.

Zuschriften
Der Tod von Alfred Poeschel hat auch mich schwer getroffen. Bei
ihm habe ich meine Lateinkenntnisse noch verbessert. Dies hat
mir für meinen Beruf als Archäologe sehr geholfen. Er wird immer
in meiner Erinnerung bleiben.
Amitai Agnon (K 1986–90)
To those mourning the passing of Alfred my Sympathy - I think of
the Ecole from time to time especially when talking to Students at
the Jewish Heritage Museum about the Holocaust and the years I
spent in Switzerland. I came to the Ecole 1942 and left 1946. Life
Magazine Issue May 13, 1946 had 2 Pages about the school its
purpose and the Jewish Emigrant Children living there… not all
the Children were Jewish - Tolerance and Respect for all creeds
were the order of the day. Mathias and Hannes von Brauchitsch
nephews of the German Commander in Chief later dismissed
by Hitler.. were also students - Kameraden at the time and Life
Magazine shows Hannes with Jewish Heinz Goldstein (my Birth
Name) I wonder if you are in touch with any of the Alumni of that
period long ago ? Beside Paulus and Edith I recall Elizabeth,her son
Wolfgang (Wolfi) Maria Weber - Herr Brunner - Datti. The school
- Ecole d‘Humanité made a life long impression on me and long
after I immigrated to the US I vis ited the School to sort of retrace
the past. I really wonder what the Ecole and its Values are today.
After all 1942 is far behind us and things are not the same.

Dear
I was a helferin for Familie Bächtold during the 1989–90 school
year, and loved every minute of it. Even though I am now busy
with a family and career of my own, I still think of the Ecole and
its impact on me everyday. Thanks to all who still live comfortably in my memories!
Becky Greenhow (H 1989–90)
After the Ecole I studied art in Chicago, Illinois and then Berlin, Germany. Soon after graduation I moved to San Francisco,
California and created art for video games for several years. I
discovered a real passion for film and moved to Los Angeles,
California. After directing a couple of short films, I became a
production designer which is what I do now. I married my wife
Kristy on the Greek island of Santorini in 2005.

I‘ve been living in the US for 11 years now, first on the East
Coast (New York, New York) and for the past 6 years on the
West Coast (Los Angeles, California). I‘m an active performer
(trumpet) of various styles of music (Contemporary/Classical,
Jazz, Salsa, Mariachi, World music) and teach as well. I live in
the San Fernando Valley, California with my boyfriend, two
iguanas and my motorcycle :), love

Wow! What have I done? Thirty years have passed by, I have
gone through everything, traveling, business, deaths, baby, divorce, opportunities, challenges, amazing to be alive in this
marvelous world!
I live in Mexico in the rain forest among Maya ruins and an
amazing nature full of exotic animals waterfalls and beauty. The
Ecole… mmmm I remember it like one of the most beautiful
times in my life … I hope life will take me to Switzerland some
time again, I`ll go to the Ecole for sure, to drop some tears of
joy and grow a tree there …
Mario Gomez Mayorga (K 1987–88)
After the Ecole I began my banking career at Bank of TokyoMitsubishi in Zurich. In between I fulfilled my dream of traveling
around the world thanks to Swissair. Now finally made my way
into Private Banking at Credit Suisse in Zurich and moved to
the sunny right side of lake Zurich and enjoy up-market lifestyle
with my family.
David Koehl (K 1995–98)
Nach der Ecole besuchte ich das 10. Schuljahr in Zürich, machte
ein Jahr ein Praktikum in einer Kinderkrippe und habe schlussendlich dann das KV gemacht. Gleich danach bin ich für 3
Monate nach Südamerika, meine Wurzeln väterlicherseits zu
erforschen. Jetzt arbeite ich als Team Assistant in einer IT Firma.

Nach einem wechselvollen Leben wohne ich nunmehr mit
meinem Mann in Griechenland auf der Insel Kos und habe jetzt

After the Ecole I spent a year in France at College Cevenol
and then returned to the United
States to graduate from my local
New Hampshire High School. I attended college in North Carolina
transferred to Emerson College in
Boston, Massachussetts to major
in Visual Design in Communication
Arts. I was a freelance graphic designer for 12 years (Final Proof Design & Publishing). In 2003 I
«retired» from freelancing & took a full time job at Dartmouth
College as a graphic designer--I enjoy the work & try to spend
as much time outdoors as possible playing in this beautiful area
of New England. I have 3 wonderful children, Jessica Erin, Troy
Alexander, and Nikolai Arndt. Jessica was named after one of
my roommates at the Ecole! My husband, Dennis, is a jack-ofall-trades inventor, builder & carpenter. We enjoy renovating
our house, kayaking the many lakes in New England & the
ocean. I play soccer in the New Hampshire Soccer League for a
local women‘s team; I coached elementary school boys & girls
(k-8) in soccer for 13 years and have coached all 3 of my kids. I
continue to play the violin (rock ‚n roll/electric) … on occasion
in public. Anyone who wants to come up to ski, snowshoe,
hike, bike, etc… is welcome to stop by for a visit, a meal and
a bed!
