Mr. Royce McCarty, Elementary Principal, stated that the m e e t ing is designed to help in the " b i g j o b " of getting the k i n d e r g a r t - n e r ready for school. P a r e n t s will have the opportunity to meet with the kindergarten t e a c h e r s , school nurse, visiting teacher, and administration p e r sonnel. Mr. and Mrs. Roland DePagter of Oostburg, Wisconsin, a r e p a r e n t s of the groom. For her m a r r i a g e , the bride selected an A-line gown of ivory linen. Venise lace edged the e m p i r e bodice and tea-cup sleeves, and outlined the square, detachable train. Matching lace edged the mantilla headpiece and she c a r r i e d a bouquet of calla lillies and g r e e n s . Her s i s t e r s . Sparta PTA Spotlights Area Jobs At this time of year, those f a m ilies with teen aged young people a r e increasingly aware of the necessity f o r planning for the f u t u r e . In line with these thoughts and questions, the Sparta High School Parent T e a c h e r Ass'n is presenting a timely and helpful p r o g r a m at 7:30, Tuesday evening, April 18. Under the guidance of Mr. La Gene Quay, High School P r i n cipal, and Mr. Merlin Kraft, F a ther V i c e - P r e s i d e n t of the PTA, a panel discussion, presenting the various work opportunities open to Sparta youth, will be presented. SeveriU different channels will be explored, including the Health P r o f e s s i o n s , by Dr. Frank L. Bull; Agriculture, by Mr. Kraft; Conservation Work, by Mr. Paul Durham, of the Conservation Department; Industry, by Mr. Allen Witbeck of the Sparta Foundry Division of the Muskegon Piston Ring Company; and Mr. G e r r i t G e r r i t s e n of the Extensole C o m pany will talk on another phase of local industry. All high school and Junior high school p a r e n t s and their young people a r e urged to take advantage of this opportunity for help and enlightenment on this most important subject. The annual upheaval known as Spring Cleaning has hit the Lady-of-the House who t r i e s with little p e r suasion to enlist the help of everyone around in sprucing up every corner of the house f r o m attic to basement. MRS. WILL (BEULAH) PIKE of Fifteen Mile Road underwent emergency s u r g e r y at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids last Friday afternoon. She expects to be in the hospital for a week to ten days. Her room number is 224. MR. AND MRS. BERT SAUR spent the weekend in Saginaw with their daughter and sonin-law, Virginia and Richard White and family. On Saturday they drove to Lansing to Michigan State University for an open house for the veterinary students. Their son, Dennis, plans to enter the College of Veterinary Medicine there next fall . On Sunday afternoon they enjoyed a trip through Delta College where their granddaughter, Diane White, attends college. MRS. CLEO (ROSE) CHASE of Maple Street entered Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids on Tuesday of this week for surgery. MRS. ALICE LAMOREAUX OF Maple Street has been quite ill at her hom e f o r a couple of weeks but is somewhat improved. MR. AND MRS. PETE NELSON of River Road attended the funeral of Mrs. Lylah Davis on Monday in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Davis, a f o r m e r Sparta resident, was the grandmother of the Nelson's daughter-in-law, Mrs. J a m e s (Marilyn Humeston) Nelson of Grand Rapids. MR AND MRS. OLIVER L BUTLER and daughters, Susan and P im, of Caledonia, and Michael Wone of Whitehall spent last Saturday evening at the home of Mrs. B u t l e r ' s mother, Mrs, Michael Allen of Maple Street. Wednesday, April 12, 1967 ERNIE DAVENPORT, who has been in St. M a r y ' s Hospital, Grand Rapids f o r some time, underwent s u r g e r y again last week and is recovering in isolation and intensive c a r e . MRS. ROSE WHITE of Maple Street spent a few days at her home here and is now staying with her daughter, M r s . Victor Stegenga at 519 Northland Drive in Rockford. TIMI STEBBINS AND DOUG HEUGEL spoke to the Sparta Lions Club on Tuesday evening, April 11, on their experiences as delegates f r o m the Sparta Methodist Church to the Washington D.C.- New Vor k Seminar last February. His p a r ents went to F o r t Shaw Air Force Base in S. Carolina and brought him home in time to attend his grandparents' open house on Sunday. Miss Margaret Stevens Is July Bride-Elect Mr. and Mrs. Alfred P. Stevens, Eighth Avenue, Conklin, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Margaret Ann, of Jefferson Avenue, Grand Rapids, to Randy Joseph Youngs, son of M r . and Mrs. Robert J . Youngs of Race NE, Grand Rapids. A July wedding is being planned. Both are graduates of Sparta Area High School. The bride-elect Is also a graduate of Davenport College of Business. Film To Be Shown at Mamrelund A film entitled " A Time for Burning" will be shown at 8 o'clock on Sunday evening, April 16, at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church of Kent City. This film deals with r a c e - r e lationship and has been proclaimed an outstanding r e l i gious film involving actual individuals r a t h e r than actors as the main c h a r a c t e r s . It was filmed in Omaha, Nebraska. " T i m e ' and " L i f e ' magazines have written about this film which has received national r e cognition. The Rev. Donald Johnson, p a s tor of the church, extends a c o r dial invitation to attend the showing. There is no admission charge. A f r e e - w i l l offering will be taken.
