The Messner Family
We welcome you all, our loyal customers, to our 2008
catalog. We hope you find that we are, as always, continuing
our mission of creating “Very Fine Using Gear.”
The company was started with the philosophy that we could
bring together a family of Craftsmen and Artisans, each from
different walks of life, yet skilled and committed to their
trade. These individuals created items that were not easily
found in the hometown tack shop. The High Country Cowboy
Company’s catalog provides an opportunity for customers to
access these special and original products, helping support
the tradition of the Great Western American Art Form.
Our family of craftsmen have changed and grown over the
years but the mission still holds true. All of us here at High
Country Cowboy Company are dedicated to supporting our
craftsmen and women as they continue to create their special
products. These products take time to produce, and each is
infused with years of experience and skill and reek of the

our Saddles /
We started this company to meet the needs of
everyday working cowboys. Those folks who make
their living spending hours on horseback and in the
saddle. We still have many customers who regularly
take 50 mile loops, who rope and doctor cattle alone
and ride a number of different horses in any given
week. These customers expect a saddle to be a good
influence on a horse's health and attitude as well
as positioning the rider for maximum performance
and comfort. We take our saddle making seriously,
from a custom tree built to our specifications,
to the careful attention to detail in our overall
construction.
We’re proud of the way our saddles look, but we’re most
proud of the way they work.
When you call to inquire about ordering one of our custom saddles we can send you
a Custom Saddle Order Packet. This will include types of horses, styles of riding and all
possible options. Each made to order saddle is one of a kind and will reflect your input and
our best efforts. The options list is extensive and will be quoted when you order or ask for
an estimate. Saddles pictured are saddles we have made for our customers in the past and
illustrate different option combinations and the prices that they carry. Delivery is between
7 to 9 months upon receipt of a 50% deposit. Time frames can vary and if we could build our
custom saddles any faster without sacrificing quality we would.
If we don't wish we could keep the saddle,
we won't ship it.

Custom Saddles examples /
The most critical parts of the saddle are the tree, the ground seat and the rigging. They are hidden on a finished saddle, but that’s where the saddler’s
art really matters most. Our ground seats are sculpted of several pieces of leather and shaped to sit you in, not on the saddle, and to balance you
comfortably where you are most in harmony with the horse. The rigging needs to pull the saddle close to the horse as evenly as possible from the fork to
the cantle. Our rigging designs pull the saddle down evenly and insures a sound horse and a secure rider no matter how demanding the use.

Pramer's Wade
Andrew was looking for a saddle that
would allow him to do all the different
activities he enjoyed from reining to
trailriding. His is a Ray Hunt Wade, 4
1/2” cantle with leather Cheyenne roll,
2 3/4” x 4” wood post horn with rawhide
binding, inskirt plate rigging with a
rear dee, loop seat, exposed stirrup
leathers and 5” rawhide covered bell
stirrups. The tooling is full running W
border and hand carved floral.

Three Rivers Wade
Three times a charm for this Ray Hunt
Style Wade with a full basket and running
w border. A 3x3” horn and 4” cantle with
a leather Cheyenne roll and inlaid padded
seat. Flat plate rigging with a rear dee and
some custom accessories such as a tooled
horn and initials on the back of the cantle
make this one-of-a-kind for a Texas cowboy.
Will’s Classic Visalia
Will’s a Mounted Ranger and
was looking for a saddle that was
functional but with a little classic
style. It is on a Visalia tree, #4 Dally
horn latigo wrapped, 5” cantle, loop
seat, exposed tooled stirrup leathers,
three piece seat, 8 string set, drop O
rigging with rear dee, full running W
border with Oak Leaf tooling on swell
and 4” half covered Visalia stirrups.

This saddle is built on a
Bowman tree, #4 Dally

Well's Lazerus
Greg wanted a saddle that
rode like, looked like, and
lasted like his 50 year old
Porter. We obliged - Porter

"crazy legs" tooling. Mule hide

Kings 3B
This saddle was built on a Visalia 3B tree.
It has a #4 dally horn 3” high, a 4 ½” cantle,
in-skirt flat-plate rigging with rear dee, and
an inlaid and padded seat. Roughout leather
for the jockeys and fenders and exposed
stirrup leathers. Finished with a full Running
W Border tooling. The saddle is trimmed in
rawhide on the horn, cantle and gullet.

Saddle Pricing
There are lots of choices to be made in designing a custom saddle. Some involve function,
some aesthetics. It's a combination of the two that creates the unique saddle you will be
proud to own and ride for a lifetime. When you place your order we’ll make sure to ask all
the questions necessary to make sure what you want is exactly what you get. Below are
just a few of the items to consider when beginning the design process on a new saddle but
by no means is it a complete list. Call us to request your Custom Saddle Order Packet for a
more in-depth look into the custom saddle process and options available.

This base price includes choice of tree, rigging style
and smooth or rough out premium Hermann Oak or
Wickett and Craig leather. 14/16 ounce for working
weight saddles and 12/14 ounce for trailriding

tan leather that can withstand the abuse of hard work yet
is supple enough for ground work. The zippers are laced
in so that they can be easily replaced and the fit can be
adjusted for bulky winter long johns and trousers.

Collecting Horsehair
1. Holding the tail in your hands, part and move up to the tailbone. If you cut
the hair from the middle of the tail, the tail will not appear to have been cut.
Be sure to get the longest hair possible.
2. Separate a small amount of hair, about the width of a pencil, for small
projects, such as necklaces and bracelets. Cut a larger amount for shuflies.
3. Tie the hair with a rubber band or hair tie. Loosely coil the hair and place
it in a Zip lock bag for shipping. Write your name, address and phone number
on the bag and send to HCCC.
