Verkehr /Traffic
Neben einem dichten Busnetz
verfügt Stockholm über eine
U-Bahn (Tunnelbana) mit drei
Linien und eine Strassenbahnlinie in der Innenstadt. Mit
dem Fahrrad ist man auf den
meisten Wegen aber schneller
unterwegs. Aufgepasst: Die
Taxipreise sind nicht reguliert
und variieren stark. Die Taxis
müssen ihre Richtpreise deshalb am Fenster anschlagen.
Zu empfehlen sind Taxi Stockholm und Taxi Kurir. In addition to a dense bus network, Stockholm has an underground system (Tunnelbana) of
three lines and a tram line in the
city centre. Distances can be
­covered more swiftly with a
­rented bike. Be aware that taxi
rates are not regulated and vary
wildly. Taxi drivers are therefore
required to post their rate guidelines in the window of their
­vehicle. Recommended: Taxi

In a nutshell
Gamla Stan, die kleine, runde Insel, auf der der historische Kern Stockholms mit vielen schmalen Gassen angeordnet ist, gehört den Touristen und dem schwedischen
König. Der Stadtteil Östermalm protzt mit Edelboutiquen
und herrschaftlichen Stadthäusern. Im architektonisch
eher nüchternen Grossstadtviertel Norrmalm finden sich
die besten Einkaufsstrassen der Stadt. Im Szeneviertel
Södermalm konzentrieren sich viele coole Shops und Cafés um den Mariatorget (Mariaplatz), ebenso in Hornstull
und «SoFo» (South of Folkungagatan). Die Museumsinsel
Skeppsholmen bietet einen wunderschönen Blick auf
Gamla Stan und Östermalm. Das Grün auf Djurgården –
Stockholms Nationalpark – kann sich auch in ein ausgelassenes Bunt verwandeln, wenn der Vergnügungspark
Tivoli Gröna Lund seine Tore öffnet.
Gamla Stan, the small, round island upon which Stockholm’s
Old Town and its warren of narrow lanes is built, “belongs” to
tourists and the Swedish royals. The Östermalm district
boasts upmarket boutiques and grand houses. The best
streets for shopping are found in the architecturally nonde­
script district Norrmalm, which is laid out in a grid system.
In Södermalm numerous cool stores and cafés are clustered
around Mariatorget (Maria Square) and also in the Hornstull
and “SoFo” (South of Folkungagatan) neighbourhoods. Mu­
seum island Skeppsholmen offers a magnificent view of
­Gamla Stan and Östermalm. The green of Djurgården – Stock­
holm’s national park – can give way to gaudy colour when­ever the ­Tivoli amusement park, known as Tivoli Gröna Lund,
opens its doors.

renowned throughout the city.

­September. Despite the fact that
the entire city is surrounded
by ­water, this summer venue in
the Kungsholmen neighbour­
hood is one of the few locations
that is right by and actually on
the ­water. Locals like to congre­
gate here to enjoy a drink, while
the DJs spin their sounds.

Swiss connection: the Hall­
wylska Museet is the private pal­
ace of Countess Wilhelmina von
Hallwyl, heiress to one of the
largest fortunes in Sweden, and
her husband, the Swiss Walther
von Hallwyl. In 1920, this build­
ing from the late 19th century
passed into the possession of the
Swedish state with the proviso
that it should be made accessible
unchanged to the general public.
The palace contains works of
art that Wilhelmina von Hallwyl
collected over the course of
­several decades.

sunken war ship that has been recovered in the fifties and sixties
from the clay grounds just a short way from the city of Stockholm.
Back in 1628, the Vasa survived just two squalls and a little more
than a kilometre of sailing before it sunk and was forgotten for
roughly 300 years before it found this new and carefully main­
tained home in Stockholm, the Vasamuseet.”
