"Der Mai ist gekommen, die Bäume schlagen aus, darum bleibe, wer
Lust hat, mit Sorgen zu Haus". Bei uns kommt der Herbst und die
Bäume schlagen nicht aus und es wird schon ziemlich frisch am
Morgen, wir Wanderer aber bleiben trotzdem nicht zu Haus und
versuchen jeden Monat etwas zu unternehmen um den Klub
zusammen zu halten. Wenn das Wetter nicht mitmacht, verwirklichen
wir Plan-B, den sozialen Aspekt. Was ist verkehrt mit einem
Frühschoppen? Auf jeden Fall besser als zu Hause herum zu "brodeln".
Was sagen die Sachsen:"Das Leben ist schehn, man muss es nur
verstehn."
Unser" Function-Kalender" ist ziemlich leer, ist da wirklich niemand
der diese Funktion übernehmen will?
Im April Newsletter sind zwei Kardinalfehler begangen worden.
Mike's Co.Za Beitrag war vom April 2011 und das Datum für die
Wanderung war auch falsch. Ich bitte um Entschuldigung. Sich selbst in
den Hintern zu treten ist hart und es tut weh. Man kann fünfmal etwas
durchlesen und man findet immer wieder etwas verkehrt. Von
normalen Schreibfehlern reden wir gar nicht, Ich lese jeden Tag
Zeitungen und finde immer etwas verkehrt, und das von professionellen "Proof-Readers".
Leider sind in dieser Ausgabe keine Bilder von der Wanderung.
Niemand hat zeitig Bilder eingereicht.

Hail the Beer !
In the Cape Argus 30. March2012 was an article all about beer. The
article was fairly long but I only picked a few good points. It says, beer
is glass for glass less calorific than wine. Beer is a also rich in B
vitamins - riboflavin (B2) - niacin(B3 )-pyroxidine(B6) - folate(B9)
and cobalamin(B12). It contains far more nutrients than any other
alcoholic beverage. Barley husks make beer rich in silica, a mineral
vital for producing strong connective tissues - such as skin, hair and
nails - as well as maintaining bone density. Low bone density increases
the risk of developing the bone-thinning disease osteoporosis. The
average beer is between 3.0 and 5.5 percent alcohol and wine between
11 and 14 percent. It is said, a glass of red wine is contributing to
protection against heart disease. Studies show that beer works just as
well.
But the best thing the scientists found out is, that beer is
better for rehydration than water after a heavy workout, because
the salts, sugars and vitamins in beer replace all the lost calories.

Did you know: A GPS makes use of 24 GPS satellites, launched into
precise orbits each 10,9000 miles above the earth costing 12 billion dollars.
Each satellite weighs about 2000kg and is approximately 5 metres in length
with its solar panels extended. They orbit the earth every 12 hours. 4
satellites are kept in reserve ready to be launched into space to replace
expiring or faulty satellites. They have an average lifespan of about 7 - 8
yrs. An average GPS, communicates with at least 4 of these satellites, at
the speed of light, to get an accurate reading of its position on earth, and its
coordinates.

Der Winter kommt, die "Schwalben" fliegen wieder zurück, unsere zwei
Enzian - Wanderführer sind gesundheitlich in Genesung aber noch nicht
ganz einsatzfähig, deshalb machen wir wieder etwas gemeinsames. Am
Elsie's Peak waren wir schon einige Zeit nicht mehr. Da gehen wir hin.
Wir treffen uns bei der Total-Garage am Ende vom Glencairn Express way
(M6). Dann fahren wir zur Golconda Road und gehen von dort aus auf den
Gipfel. Der Abstieg ist auf der Fish Hoek Seite, aber dann gehen wir über
den Sattel zurück nach Glencairn. ( ca. 3 Std. )
Nach der Wanderung? Vorschlag: Ein Bier im Western Arms in
Lakeside?

Dieser englische Kinderreim kommt voll in seine Rechte wenn man be denkt dass diese Wanderung jetzt schon das zweitemal durch Regen be einflusst worden ist. Unzuverlässige verschiedene Wetterberichte machen
ein Entscheidungstreffen schwierig. Schon am Tag vorher rufte man an,
" gehn wir oder gehn wir nicht? Wir können nicht soviel Benzin verfahren
nur um wieder nach Hause zu gehen wenn die Wanderung wegen schlechtem Wetter abgesagt wird". Entscheidungen können erst an Ort und
Stelle gemacht werden, so haben alle die ausserhalb der Stadt wohnen
ab- gesagt.
Am Sonntag trafen sich dann nur sechs Teilnehmer am Parkplatz am Fusse
vom Lion's Head. Schwere Wolken hingen tief und es nieselte. Einstimmig
hiess es, " da hinauf gehn wir nicht". Kurt hatte eine bessere Idee, " parkt
die Autos bei mir zu Hause in der Theresa Avenue und dann können wir
von dort aus am Fusse der Apostel unsere Wanderlust erfüllen". Gesagt
getan. Es nieselte auch dort, aber wir sind ja nicht aus Zucker gemacht
und nach 2½ Std. herumwandern waren wir wohl nass, aber nicht völlig
durchnässt, dafür aber voll von gutem Mut, denn Kurt hatte uns zu einem
Frühschoppen eingeladen. Es gab "Fleischlabern", Kartoffelsalat, Bretzel,
Bier, Schnaps und Kaffee. Ja, es hat sich gelohnt etwas früher aufzustehen
und nass zu werden. Vielen Dank Kurt, Du hast den Tag gerettet, nicht nur
das, wir dürfen nächstes Jahr wieder kommen. Wie heisst es im Lied: "Wir
sind die Fürsten dieser Welt, und unser Reich sind die sonnigen Höhn".

"Verzeihen Sie", sagte Signor Veneranda, wie lange braucht man, um auf den
Gipfel zu steigen?" "Ungefähr eine Dreiviertel stunde", sagte der Sommerfriscler
nach einigem Nachdenken.
"Und zum Heruntersteigen?" fragte Signor
Veneranda unschuldsvoll. " Zum Heruntersteigen höchstens zwanzig Minuten",
sagte der Sommerfrischler, "es geht sehr schnell, auch weil der Weg ziemlich
steil ist." " Dann ist es vorteilhafter", sagte Signor Veneranda , "herunter-statt
hinauf
zusteigen . " "Sicher", lächelte der Sommerfrischler. " Es ist wirklich schade, dass
ich das nicht kann", sagte Signor Veneranda, 'herunter -statt hinaufzusteigen
"Dass Sie was nicht können?", fragte der Sommerfrischler. "Von dem Berggipfel
da herunterzusteigen","mir liegt das Heruntersteigen nicht"." Das Hinaufsteigen
ist aber viel schwerer, sagte der Sommerfrischler. " "Das sagen Sie", sagte Signor
Veneranda,"für mich ist das Heruntersteigen viel schwieriger. Und nicht nur für
mich, sondern für alle". Aber nein, da irren Sie sich", sagte der Sommerfrischler.
"Ich irre mich absolut nicht", sagte Signor Veneranda."Sagen Sie mir, wie ich es
machen soll, von diesem Berg herunterzusteigen. Bitte, sagen Sie es mir!" " Das
brauche ich Ihnen doch nicht zu sagen", antwortete der Sommerfrischler,"Sie
steigen einfach hinauf und dann gehen Sie wieder herunter".
"Sehen Sie, da haben wir's!, sagte Signor Veneranda, "merken Sie jetzt, dass es
unmöglich ist? Ich steige auf keinen Fall hinauf. Und wenn ich nicht auf den
Bergipfel steige, können Sie mir sagen, wie ich dann herunterkommen soll?
Glauben Sie jetzt, dass es viel schwerer ist, herunter-statt hinaufzusteigen?"
"Aber ich glaube, dass Sie......"stotterte der Sommerfrischler, der nicht mehr
wusste, was er sagen sollte. "Sie sollen gar nichts glauben ausser dem, was ich
Ihnen gesagt habe und ich habe mich sehr klar ausgedrückt", sagte Signor
Veneranda, Dann dreht er dem Sommerfrischler den Rücken zu und entfernte
sich kopfschüttelnd.

Dear Members and friends!
The regular readers amongst you will have noticed the gremlin that crept into last
month’s article – it was the one from April 2011, not my new April 2012. The editor
must have had one Schnapps too many ☺ ☺ – not a problem – we are all human.

Anyway, Easter is behind us, you’re probably in the middle of a long weekend and
we’re already heading for mid 2012, incredible.
So, what’s new?
The “Fruchtsalat” company, Apple, has done it yet again. Welcome iPad3, what a
toy. By the time you read this, the first couple of million units will have been sold. I
wonder where all the iPad 2’s will disappear to as the new ones were launched at
the same price as its predecessors – some more electronic waste coming our
way! Will it beat the competition – we wait and see. Asus EEE Transformer is
giving them a good run for their money, as is Samsung, so it will no doubt be a
tight race.
Furthermore there are once again rumours around that June will see a new
iPhone 5 with totally new specs – something else to look forward to.
Staying in the world of smart phones, Nokia has launched its Lumina 900, the
apparent be-all-and-end-all of smart phones at present. And then there’s the Sony
Xpedia which also ranks amongst the top phones on the market at present, this
after Sony broke away from Ericsson again. You may have also heard that
Blackberry is on the verge of collapsing – there is talk that Microsoft may put in a
bid from them; other than that they are virtually bankrupt and need a miracle to
survive – whether their new Porsche Design phone will do the trick at the price
they intend to sell it at, ons sal sien.
Phew, am I glad that I do not have to make any new choices or decisions soon
with regards to a phone – one just doesn’t know what to go for any more – it’s
frightening.Then there’s this next item which sounds like something out of a
science fiction novel, but there is apparently some substance behind a report
shown on “Firstpost Technology”. Search engine giant Google is developing a
pair of electronic glasses that can stream information directly to the eyes of its
user in real time. The glasses, to be launched by the end of the year, will be more
like smartphones with the lenses serving as a kind of see-through computer
monitor. The glasses are apparently built on the company’s Android mobile
operating system (OS), and will include a mobile broadband connection, motion
sensors and GPS. Loaded with a low-resolution, built-in camera, the Google
glasses “will be able to monitor the world in real time and overlay information
about locations, surrounding buildings and friends who might be near-by,” a New
York Times report said. The glasses will be integrated with other Google products,
like Google Latitude to share location, Google Maps to search for nearby places
and Google Goggles to search images and identify what is being looked at. For
instance, a person looking at the Voortrekker Monument could see detailed
historical information and comments about it left by friends. The glasses might
also be used for virtual reality games that use the real world as the playground.
The glasses are expected to start selling at the end of the year at a price between
$250 and $600 — about the cost of a smartphone. The data will be fetched
through a 3G/4G data connection, and the glasses will retrieve information about
their surroundings through GPS and several sensors.
Now is that cool or what? Will it have a detrimental impact on our eyes, time will
tell, let’s see what the optometrists have to say once these glasses are really
launched. I would imagine though, that Google will have checked in to this already
as I doubt they will want to face court cases with a host of blinded or vision
impaired individuals, right?
What I was happy to see lately as well was the fact that “Dion Wired” have now
started opening stores in the greater Cape Town area. Up until recently these
stores were mainly located in Gautengalang. That means we now have another
electronic competitor in the arena, so, Incredible Contraption, or is it Incredible
Corruption (oops, got the spelling wrong, but sorry guys, self-inflicted), be careful
or you will lose a big chunk of business. Yeah, certain things just need to be said,
that’s the beauty of “freedom of speech”; we can say what is actually happening
and share consumer feelings amongst each other with the aim of getting
companies to take corrective action - that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?
Lots more talk about Windows 8 too, with the downloadable Beta version
available for trials/testing. Being a Microsoft product, I have no doubt that this
operating system will continue to be No, 1 in the world – all the Ubuntus and
Linuxes will have to step aside and acknowledge that this company is simply a
couple of blocks ahead of them.
A suggestion was recently made by a member that I briefly explain some of the
gadgets on offer these days, so here goes:
iPhone: Apple’s smart phone
iPod: Apple’s Music/Video MP3/MP4 player
iPad: Apple’s tablet, a mini computer that has a touch screen
Kindle: Amazon’s electronic book where you can download books from the Net
Android: An operating system competing against Apple’s IOS (op system)
Gösser: The Austrian stuff in a bottle with a green label that you drink plenty of ☺
And for all you Kindle E-Reader users out there, the Koreans have just launched
the first Android-running colour Kyobo E-reader, multi-touch, 14 cm screen, as
good in sunlight as the E-ink versions – but hey, this was bound to happen, the
grey-scale reader now soon as archaic as the Dead Sea scrolls.

Innenpolitik Europa
Schauen wir uns die Situation in Österreich an, dann gibt es keine Spur von
instabilen Verhältnissen. "Wir gehören zu den Vorbildern in Europa," so sagte
Bundeskanzler Faymann.
Der Nationalrat hat am 28. März das Konsolidierungspaket der Bundesregierung
beschlossen, das in den kommenden fünf Jahren Einsparungen in Höhe von 27,9
Mrd. Euro einbringen soll.
Österr. Budgetdefizit fiel 2011 deutlich geringer aus als angenommen. Laut
vorläufiger Zahlen der Statistik Austria (vom 29. März) lag das gesamtstaatliche
Defizit bei 2,6 % des BIP ( oder 7,8 Mrd. Euro). Damit wurde die Maastricht Grenze von 3% signifikant unterschritten.
Der Ministerrat hat am 27. März den ÖBB-Rahmenplan beschlossen. " Trotz
Sparsamkeit und nochmaliger Überarbeitung aller Vorhaben werden wir jährlich 2
Mrd.Euro in Bahnprojekte investieren.
Europa International
Bundespräsident Heinz Fischer absolvierte vom 11. bis 13. April einen offiziellen
Besuch in Portugal. Begleitet wurde er von seiner Frau Margit sowie von
Finanzministerin Maria Fekter, Sozialminister Rudolf Hundstorfer und einer
Wirtschaftsdelegation.
Die Kroatische Aussenministerin Vesna Pusic absolvierte am 30. M ärz ihren
ersten offiziellen Besuch in Wien. Gastgeber Aussenminister Michael Spindelegger
erklärte nach dem Treffen mit Pusic, Österreich werde seine Unterstützung für
Kroatien auch nach dessen EU-Beitritt im kommendem Jahr fortsetzen.
Der tunesische Staatssekretär im Ministerium für Internationale Zusammenarbeit
und Investitionen, Alaya Bettaieb, traf am3. April anlässlich eines Arbeitsbesuches
mit Finanzsekretär Andreas Schieder zusammen. Erörtert wurden die politische
und wirtschaftliche Situation in Tunesien sowie mögliche bilaterale Kooperationen
und Investitionen.
Österreichisch - serbische Kooperation gegen Drogenschmuggel. Die Balkanroute
spiele beim Drogenschmuggel unvermindert eine Zentrale Rolle, Heroin-vor allem
aus Afghanistan- werde über die Türkei, den Balkan, Italien und Österreich nach
Westeuropa transportiert, explizierte Serbiens Innenminister Ivica Dacic am 18.
März. bei einer Pressekonferenz in Wien.

Am österreichischen Arbeitsmarkt machte sich im Monat März bereits eine
Frühjahrsbelebung bemerkbar,
informierte Sozialminister Rudolf
Hundstorfer erfreut.
Die Wirtschaftsforschungsinstitute Wifo und IHS prognostizieren, dass sich
Ösrerreichs Wirtschaft trotz eines schwierigen internationalen Umfelds
positiv entwickelt und in Schlüsselbereichen gut aufgestellt ist.
Beim Treffen der OECD Umweltminister in Paris vom 29. bis 30. März wurden
Srategien diskutiert, wie sich wirtschaftliche Weiterentwicklung und
Umweltentlastung vereinen lassen.
Österreichische Erfinderinnen und Erfinder bekommen zusätzliche Unterstützung.
Das Innovationsministerium hilft Klein- und Mittelbetrieben mir der Initiative
"Markt Bonus"Erfindungen zu vermarkten und neue Märkte zu erschliessen.
Der sogenannte "Global Cities Index"
Index erscheint alle zwei Jahre und bewertet
insgesamt 66 Städte in punkto wirtschaftliche Aktivität, Humankapital, Informatinsaustausch, kulturelles Erben und politisches Engagement. Wien verbesserte sich im
vergleich zum Ranking von 2010 um fünf Plätze und belegt nun Rang 13.
Neuer Businesspark nahe der Shopping City Süd (SCS) hat die Gemeinde Wiener
Neudorf geplant. Bürgermeister Christian Wöhrleitner verfolgt die Idee eines

Vorarlberg: Schubertiade 2012.
2012 Die Schubertiade wurde 1976 in Hohenems von
Hermann Prey gegründet, um Schubert den ihm gebührenden Platz neben Mozart
und Beethoven einzuräumen. Weitere Veranstaltungen finden vom 16. - 25 Juni
und vom 27. August - 9. September in Schwarzenberg sowie am 11. Oktober in
Hohenems statt.

Das Festival Schubertiade hat für Elisabeth Schwaezkopf in Hohenems ein kleines
Museum eingerichtet. Die grosse Sopranistin Schwarzkopf hatte ihren
Lebensabend in Vorarlberg verbracht und war 2006 in Schruns im Alter von 90
Jahren gestorben. Das Museum ist auch die Geschäftsstelle der Schubertiade und
kann besucht werden vom 15. April bis 14. Oktober 2012 auch sonn-und feiertags.

ist. . Das Eröffnungsevent des vom Wiener Volksliedwerk veranstalteten Festivals

Jährlich am vierten Donnerstag im April - heuer war dies am 26. April - findet seit
2001 der "Girls Day " oder Töchtertag statt. Ziel des Aktionstages ist es, Mädchen
und junge Frauen zu motivieren, nicht traditionelle, technisch - naturwisswnschaftliche und damit besonders zukunftsweisende Ausbildungen , Studiengänge und
Berufe zu wählen, die erfahrungsgemäss ein höheres Einkommen und mehr
gesellschaftliche Anerkennung bringen.
Viele Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund haben in ihren Herkunftsländern
Ausbildungen und Qualifikationen erworben, werden aber oft nicht ausbildungs adäquat beschäftigt und entlohnt, weilsie ihre Qualifikation in Österreich nicht an -
erkennen haben lassen. " Unsere Aufgabe ist es, die Anerkennung im Ausland
erworbener Qualifikationen zu erleichtern und zu beschleunigen", sagte Sozial minister Rudolf Hundstorfer.
Das Innenministerium hat eine neue Initiative für mehr Internetsicherheit an öster
reichischen Schulen gestartet. Ab sofort sollen 300 Spezialmittler landesweit in
Schulklassen im Einsatz sein und Jugendliche ab 12 Jahren über Cyberkriminalität,
Onlinemobbing und den Umgang mit Sozial - Medien - Angeboten wie Facebook
informieren. Oft geben Kinder private Daten und Informationen weiter, damit
setzen sie sich grossen Gefahren aus und sind leichte Beute für Online - Belästi gungen oder Mobbing", so Innenministerin Johanna Mikl-Leitner.

Sport minister Norbert Darabos war am 29. März Ehrengast bei der alljährlichen
Galanacht zur Wahl der Slzburger SportlerInnen des Jahres, wobei die begehrten
Leonidas -Trophäen verliehen wurden. Auch beim "Sport Lorbeer" in Linz Ende
März war der Sportminister anwesend.

A "FLU" Remedy
May is still change of season, and the weather is getting cooler. It is also the
time when many people are getting influenza "the Flu". I just came across an
article that said, to cut both ends off an onion , placing it into an empty jar and
placing the jar next to a sick patient at night. The onion would absorb all the
germs and the patient would feel better. It is worthwhile trying it out, it doesn't
cost much,--- well just an onion.
The article also said that onions and garlic placed around the room saved
many from the black plague many years ago. It also said, leftover onions should
not be put in the fridge or left laying around for too long, they become
poisonous. Should you get sick from eating yesterday's potato-salad, don't blame
the mayonnaise, it is probably the onion.

Ludwig van Beethoven
A tourist in Vienna is going through the a graveyard and all of a sudden he
hears music. No one is around, so he starts searching for the source. He
finally locates the origin and finds its coming from a grave with a
headstone that reads " Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770-1827". Then he
realizes that the music is the Ninth Symphony and it is being played
backward! Puzzled, he leaves the graveyard and persuades a friend to
return with him. By the time they arrive back at the grave, the music has
changed. This time it is the Seventh Symphony, but like the previous
piece, it is being played backward. Curious, the men agree to consult a
music scholar. When they return with the expert, the Fifth Symphony is
playing, again backward. The expert notices that the symphonies are
being played in reverse order in which they were composed, the 9th,
then the 7th, then the 5th. By the next day the word has spread and a
crowd has gathered around the grave. They are all listening to the Second
Symphony being played backward. Just then the graveyard's caretaker
ambles up to the group. Someone in the group asks him if he has an
explanation for the music. " I would have thought it was obvious" the
caretaker says.

Excuses given to Insurance Companies
The guy was all over the road . I had to swerve a number of times
before I hit him.
To avoid hitting the bumper of the car in front, I struck a pedestrian.
The pedestrian had no idea which way to run, so I ran over him.
The car in front hit the pedestrian, but he got up so I hit him again.
I saw her look at me twice. She seemed to be to be making slow progress on
impact.
The pedestrian ran for the pavement, but I got him.
I hit a stationary truck coming the other way because my headlights were
faulty.
The cyclist was a little wobbly and didn't seem to know how to cycle
properly, so I just went straight over him.
A truck backed through my windshield and into my wife's face. She is better
now.
The other car collided with mine without warning of its intention to do so.
As I approached an intersection, a stop sign suddenly appeared in a place
where no stop sign had ever appeared before. I was unable to stop in time to
avoid the accident.
I told the police that I was not injured, but when I removed my cap, I found
that I had a fractured skull.
The indirect cause of the accident was a little guy in a small car with a big
mouth.
I started to slow down but the traffic was more stationary than I thought.
Coming home, I drove into the wrong house and collided with a tree I don't
have.
I thought my window was down, but I found it was up when I put my head
through it.
In an attempt to kill a fly, I drove into a telephone pole.
The gentleman behind me struck me on the backside. My car then went to
rest in a bush, with just my rear end showing.
I pulled to the side of the road because there was smoke coming from under
the bonnet. I realized there was a fire in the engine, so I took my dog and
smothered it with a blanket.
The accident occurred when I attempted to bring my car out of a skid by
steering it into the other vehicle.
On approaching the traffic lights the Taxi in front of me suddenly broke.
No witnesses would admit having seen the mishap until after it happened
None of the witnesses are reliable as they had just been arrested by the
police.
I have never driven a car with power steering before, so as I turned the
wheel to what I thought was enough and found myself in a different
direction going the opposite way.
The accident happened when the right front door of a vehicle came round
the corner without giving a signal.
I had been driving for 40 years when I fell asleep at the wheel and had an
accident.
Going to work at 7am this morning, I drove out of my driveway into a bus.
The bus was five minutes early.
The accident happened because I had one eye on the Taxi in front, one eye
on the pedestrian and the other on the car behind me.
The waitress kept giving me more drinks than I needed in order to drive
safely.
I ate something nasty and then my tire had indigestion and it burst.

Two Beggars in Rome.
Two Beggars are sitting side by side on a street in Rome, Italy. One has a
cross in front of him, the other one is holding the Star of David. Many
people go by, look at both beggars, but only put money into the hat of the
beggar sitting behind the Cross.
The Pope comes by. He stops to watch the throngs of people giving
money to the beggar who holds the Cross while none give to the beggar
holding the Star of David.
Finally, the Pope approaches the beggar with the Star of David and says:
"My poor fellow, don't you understand? This is a Catholic country, this city
is the seat of Catholicism. People aren't going to give you money if you sit
there with a star of David in front of you, especially when you're sitting
beside a beggar who is holding a Cross. In fact, they would probably give
more money to him just out of spite."
The beggar with the Star of David listened to the Pope, smiled, and
turned to the beggar with the Cross and said. " Joshua, look who's trying
to teach the Goldstein brothers about marketing!"
