Our Journey
REAVELL - Since 1898
REAVELL engineering teams have been at the forefront of high
compression systems for an accumulated two centuries.
Combining class-leading technology leadership with a unique
pedigree, our systems prove to be the solution of choice.
REAVELL started life 110 years ago on the 11th of June 1898
as REAVELL & Co Ltd. Engineers. Founded by Sir William Reavell
on Ranelagh Road in Ipswich, the organisation specialised in
steam engines and quadruplex compressors.
Valued by engineering organisations and institutions for its
durability and quality, REAVELL compressors were used during
the construction of the London Underground, the infancy
stages of submarine warfare and the starting of diesel
engines on British battleships and transatlantic ocean liners.
During the next decades, REAVELL equipment increasingly
became popular across the world, leading the way in the
usage of Compressed Natural Gas as a fuel source or in the
establishment of REAVELL quality as the unchallenged global
benchmark for Heliox deep sea breathing.
A company of the CompAir Group since 1969 and still based
in Ipswich, albeit in a brand new Technology Centre opened
in 2005, the organisation now has over 100,000 sq ft of
manufacturing and office space and 110 years of continuous
engineering excellence and commitment to total
system solutions.
Combining state-of-the-art product development and
stream-lined assembly sections with the industries’ leading
refurbishment capability and a unique unit testing facility;
REAVELL’s HQ is the envy of the industry.

MAKO - Since 1952
MAKO Compressors was founded in 1952 by Jordan Klein,
a successful dive shop owner and operator from Miami, Florida.
The name “MAKO" comes from the Maori word for “large blue
shark“ and encapsulates the brands core capability advantage
of breathing air compression.
J. Klein was an underwater cameraman and director for more
than 100 major motion pictures including Thunderball, Flipper,
Splash, Cocoon and Jaws.
Moving to Ocala in 1977, 5 years after joining REAVELL, the
brand is now the specialist compression integration arm and
knowledge centre for breathing air applications. Home to a
highly specialised and skilled workforce, breathing air systems
are shipped to global recipients.
