International Players Increasingly Invest In Hamburg
PRESS RELEASE
International Players Increasingly Invest In
Hamburg
Hamburg to showcase its assets at the world’s leading commercial
property fair MIPIM in Cannes to woe new investors.
Hamburg, 2 March 2015 – The real estate location Hamburg is increasingly in the focus of
international investors. While foreign investors only accounted for 28 per cent of
transactions in 2013, their participation shot up to 44 per cent in 2014, states the real
estate agency Grossmann & Berger in its market report. ”In the largest twelve
transactions of last year, international investors were over-represented”, says Axel
Steinbrinker, managing director, Grossmann & Berger. Last year’s largest transactions
took place at HafenCity, with five properties sold in the north of Überseequartier and, as
the largest project in regard to volumes, the development of the south of Überseequartier
by the French commercial property company Unibail-Rodamco. In order to stabilise the
interest of interest investors in Hamburg at high level, Hamburg will participate at this
year’s international commercial property fair MIPIM in Cannes on the French Riviera with
21 partners. Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, CEO HWF Hamburg Business Development
Corporation: ”The MIPIM is the main forum in the international competition for real estate
investments. The high share of international investments in Hamburg shows that our
commitment pays off.“ In 2014, international buyers and sellers mainly came from
France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, and, the
United States of America. In annual comparison, transaction volumes increased by
nearly one-third to 3.65 bn euro. Traditional highlight of Hamburg’s trade fair
participation is the Hamburg/HafenCity reception with EU Commissioner Günther
Oettinger invited as special guest.
The Hamburg pavilion at MIPIM will comprise as civic partners the Hamburg’s federal stateowned property management company Landesbetrieb für Immobilienmanagement und
Grundvermögen (LIG), IBA Hamburg GmbH, HafenCity Hamburg GmbH, and HWF Hamburg
Business Development Corporation. Further partners at the stand include Angermann AG,
ARGOS Project Management, Becken Group, Deutsche Immobilien, Drees & Sommer, ECE
Project Management, Europa-Center, Dr. Helmut Greve, Grossmann & Berger, Hamburger
Sparkasse, HANSAINVEST, HSH Nordbank, Procom, Quantum, STRABAG Real Estate, and
Warburg Henderson Kapitalanlagegesellschaft für Immobilien. Institutional partners at the stand
are the Urban Land Institute Deutschland (ULI), ZIA Zentraler Immobilienausschuss
(German central property commission), and Property Investor Europe. The joint Hamburg
pavilion will be organised by HWF Service GmbH.
At this year’s MIPIM, there is a significant increase from Europe’s most important real estate
markets, but also from the United States of America and Canada.
Two weeks before the official opening of MIPIM, it has become clear that countries such as
Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, Netherlands, and France will increase their participation at the
1/2
world’s leading commercial property fair by presenting more regions, more cities, and more
public and private partners. .
The German delegation, traditionally one of MIPIM’s largest, also recorded an increase of public
and private investors in 2014. Last year, the German cities of Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt,
Hamburg, Nuremberg, Munich, and und Stuttgart showcased plots and properties at MIPIM.
The federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia participated with a booth of the cities of Aachen,
Bochum, Bonn, Dortmund, Duisburg, Essen, Cologne, Monchengladbach, and Ruhr metropolis
as well as private and institutional partners. This year, the German commitment will even be
stronger, with the Lake Constance region and the EUR district Saar-Mosel participating for the
very first time.
