The 2016 Fall Conference may be our most informative yet, with protection topics covering a wide range of industry concerns. Here’s a brief overview of the work put into this year’s event: SOECPTT 310 “State & Federal Elections” – Joe Ewig, Ohio Grocers Association The 2016 Election cycle is shaping up to be one of the most talked about and arguably one of the most unpredictable to date. Ranging from the presidential and congressional elections, that likely will determine which political party will have control of the substantial policy in years to come, to Ohio's elections, that will set the groundwork for future statewide elections – 2016 will be an extremely pivotal election year. “New Overtime Rules: Are You Ready?” – Matt Austin, Roetzel & Andress, LPA The Department of Labor released a signicant change to the law that governs whether employees are entitled to overtime compensation. The intent of this change was to award overtime eligibility to most managers and supervisors working in retail. OGA's employment relations attorney, Matt Austin, a partner with the Ohio-based rm Roetzel & Andress will make sure that all participants are fully prepared to comply with the new law that takes effect on December 1, 2016. “Insurance: A 360 Degree Compliance Solution” – Tom Wagoner, Accelerated Benets Long-time OGA Partner, Tom Wagoner of Accelerated Benets, will offer a complete solution to ensure your company's insurance compliance. He will cover the topics of ERISA, ACA, HIPPA, COBRA and FMLA. “Protecting Your Business” – Chad M. Irwin, PNC Bank Learn about the latest payment risks, statistics, and measures that can be taken to mitigate internal and external threats to your business. Chad, Irwin, Business Banking Treasury Manager from PNC Bank shares the latest and provides insight into protection concerns from the nance point of view. “Reducing Charitable & Solicitation Fraud” – Beth Short, Ohio Attorney General’s Ofce How much do you know about the people who are collecting donations in front of your store? Unfortunately, too many people are willing to take advantage of the generosity of others. The Ohio Attorney General's Charitable Law Section will provide some tips on how retailers can protect their goodwill and their customers in reducing potentially fraudulent solicitations and making sure that limited charitable contributions nd their way to organizations that will put them to good use. “Protecting Your Coupon Investment” – Dan Shaul, Missouri Grocers Association Do you treat your coupons like cash? Does your coupon program drive sales? Are you in charge of your coupon program or is it in charge of you? Find out the do’s and don'ts of couponing in today's multimedia age, as Dan Shaul from the Missouri Grocers Association presents the latest information on the topic. “The Food Safety Top 10” – Kelly Stegner, Associated Wholesale Grocers, Inc. In today's competitive supermarket and grocery store environment, food safety has taken a forefront to ensure the protection of consumers. Selling safe and wholesome food is a commitment retailers make to their consumers but it also helps protect their business as well. We will take a look at the Top 10 areas this year to focus on to protect your name in the grocery industry. “Protecting the Heart of Your Organization – Employees, Customers & Brand” – Will Matty, CardioReady, Inc. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the #1 cause of death in the US and can strike anyone, anywhere at any time. The only practical means of saving a SCA victim is with the shock from an Automated External Debrillator (AED). Fortunately, AEDs are very affordable, safe, and simple to use. AEDs are no longer being ignored in the grocery space; more and more grocers are deploying AEDs in stores to save lives and protect their employees, customers and brand – 2015 FMI AED survey results support this trend in wider AED adoption. “Protect and Connect” – Candice Lockwood, Wells Fargo Advisors Recognizing fraud trends in the industry and focusing on them are to minimize your risk. In addition we will touch on new ways to connect with your customers across multiple media streams and how to do it safely. ! OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS !
