When the Chris Robinson Brotherhood headed into the studio to begin recording their
new album, 'Any Way You Love, We Know How You Feel', no one knew just what to
expect. These would be the band's first recordings with new drummer Tony Leone
(Ollabelle, Levon Helm), their first since the departure of founding bassist Mark
"Muddy" Dutton, and their first time producing themselves. But as anybody who's been
following the CRB can attest, this is a band that thrives on the unexpected.
If you need proof, just go back to 2012, when they first emerged on the national stage by
releasing not one, but two acclaimed full-length albums within a few months of each
other. Critics hailed their sprawling debut, 'Big Moon Ritual', as a revelation, with Uncut
calling it a "tenderly-executed piece of work…[that's] both earthy and transcendent",
while The Independent raved that Robinson had "finally found the ideal vehicle to indulge
his taste for 'Cosmic California Music.'" The reviews were similarly ecstatic for its
immediate follow-up, 'The Magic Door', which was praised by Relix as "classic rock in the
finest sense." The band's relentless tour schedule brought their shimmering acidAmericana around the world for a staggering 118-date tour, firmly establishing the CRB as
the new standard-bearers of the psychedelic roots torch.
In 2014, they returned to the studio for 'Phosphorescent Harvest,' a masterful collection
that showcased the blossoming songwriting partnership between Robinson and guitarist
Neal Casal. Rolling Stone raved that the album was "electrifying…boast[ing] a vintage rock
vibe that's at once quirky, trippy, soulful and downright magnetic," and Guitar World
called it" a treasure trove of soul that advances the band's bluesy, kaleidoscopic sound."
On each of those albums, the songs and arrangements had been locked in prior to the
sessions, but heading back into the studio for 'Any Way You Love,' Robinson purposely left
as much open-ended as possible, embracing the line-up changes and leaning into the
virtuosic improvisational chemistry that's always made their live shows such enthralling
spectacles.
Not coincidentally, Robinson also cites it as perhaps the best recording experience of his
life. The band relocated to northern California for the sessions, recording on the side of a
mountain overlooking the foggy Pacific Ocean and channelling the natural majesty and
melancholic weather of their surroundings into the album's eight, epic, immersive tracks.

D Generation needs no introduction. Often credited for keeping NYC punk rock alive in
the '90s, these five friends with unmistakable chemistry are widely regarded as one of
the most important and unsung rock 'n' roll bands of the past twenty-five years.
This is their first album in 17 years and is by the original line up.
Before they'd ever been signed, D Gen played sell-out concerts at such seminal New York
City venues as CBGB, the Continental and Irving Plaza. Gear was trashed, bottles broken,
authorities called, venues shut down, record execs turned away... but the lucky few
hundred who were at these gigs were instant converts. A "scene" was born.
Now the classic D Gen lineup - Jesse Malin, Danny Sage, Howie Pyro, Michael Wildwood

Andy has had chart success with Amen Corner in the 60s and solo success in the 70s,
along the way he has played with 100s of top musicians.
Cardiff born Andy Fairweather Low first established himself as frontman with chart
topping 60s group Amen Corner and soon reached teen idol status. Amen Corner scored 6
memorable hits between 1967 and 1969, with “(If Paradise Is) Half As Nice” reaching no.1
in January ’69.
In 1974 Andy began a solo career and scored a top 10 hit with “Reggae Tune” in
September of that year, and the following year reaching Number 6 with the memorable
“Wide Eyed And Legless” highlighting his characteristic voice. 1975s ‘La Booga Rooga’ was
the album that featured “Wide Eyed And Legless” and thus far remains Andy’s biggest
selling album. Andy has always surrounded himself with a stellar cast of musicians and
just some of the luminaries contributing to his 1970s solo albums were Gerry Rafferty,
Georgie Fame, Bernie Leadon, B.J Cole and Kenney Jones. Andy’s last solo album around
this time was 1980s self produced ‘Mega-Shebang’ featuring his trademark mixture of
styles.
Throughout his career Andy’s services as a vocalist and guitarist have been sought by a
who’s who of bands and musicians either on a touring basis or as a recording artist.
Amongst this highly impressive list are: Jimi Hendrix, Roger Waters, Eric Clapton, David
Crosby, Van Morrison, Jeff Beck, Phil Collins, Sheryl Crow, Richard And Linda Thompson,
Chris Rea, The Band, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Page and hundreds more.

The trio Building Instrument exist in a sort of fantasy-filled no man's land between
electronica, organic pop and something more mystical and fantastic. On their second
album, 'Kem Som Kan A Leve', their mode of expression is deeper and more
dreamlike, the soundscape is broader and more substantial, and their music is still
extremely addictive and strangely catchy.
The members of the trio Building Instrument are Mari Kvien Brunvoll (vocals, sampler,
zither, percussion, kazoo), Øyvind Hegg-Lunde (drums, percussion) and Asmund
Weltzien (synth, electronics). Drummer Øyvind Hegg-Lunde plays in two bands that
have released records, Strings & Timpani and Electric Eye, and has toured with José
Gonzalez and his band Junip. Keyboard player Asmund Weltzien makes a vital
contribution to the new soundscape on this album with his expanded palette of sounds.
The album 'Kem Som Kan A Leve' was made in the course of a two-year period, and
some of the material was composed for a concert inspired by the art of Kurt Schwitters,
which was commissioned and performed at the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter at
Høvikodden, outside of Oslo, in September 2015. The concert marked the opening of a
new, permanent Kurt Schwitters exhibition at the art centre, and was arranged as part
of the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival.
The album was recorded in the legendary "Studio", a hall in the Henie Onstad
Kunstsenter, the same week as the Schwitters concert was given its world premiere.
The album was mixed by producer Jørgen Træen together with Anders Bjelland.

In between, the duo took time out to self-record and produce Summat's Brewin', an album that
celebrates the 'spirit of the small' whilst exploring the nation's fascination with alcohol,
released on their own micro label Hum Records. Walking away from the tried and tested route
of a two yearly major record release to self-release a concept album may have seemed a
foolish move for a band that were courting so much attention from the
national press and BBC Radio 2 and 6. However, for Belinda and Heidi, it was an invaluable
opportunity to move into the shadows for a time and explore an alternative path of repose,
reflection, listening and sharing, culminating in Shadows.
Shadows conveys the vast expanse of human emotion, from tenderness to sensual melancholy,
boundless joy and hope to anger and grief, from dogged determination and grit to the
disturbing and deeply unsettling. Under careful consideration are those who live their lives in
the dark, whilst others are gently lifted out of the dusk, from Belinda and Heidi's own, deeply
personal shadows, to the crimes committed behind closed doors.
At the core of the album is the Steinway grand piano, recorded at MOMA; the Museum of
Modern Art, Machynlleth, interwoven with Belinda and Heidi's instinctual, close harmonies,
which have been compared with the most celebrated harmony duos from early Simon &
Garfunkel to the iconic Kate and Anna McGarrigle. They were recently praised by BBC 6
Music's Tom Robinson; 'They sing together in the way that families do.
Accompanying the duo on Shadows is a selection of highly expressive, sensitive musicians;
Pete Flood (Bellowhead) contributes drums, percussion and sampled bicycle sounds, Michele
Stodart (Magic Numbers) provides warm, lyrical electric guitar, bass and ebow, while Andy
Seward (Kate Rusby Band) offers beautifully fluid double bass lines, Jude Abbott
(Chumbawamba) adds sprinkles of trumpet and flugelhorn alongside the deceptively simple,
stirring viola playing of BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner Rowan Rheingans (Lady Maisery).
Shadows is mixed by Neil Ferguson (Leveret, Coope Boyes & Simpson) and mastered by Denis
Blackham at Skye Mastering.

Many people are familiar with the movement of songs and tunes from Britain
to North America, but this project presents American dance tunes that came to Britain as
well as some tunes from England and Scotland that in their rhythmic quality seem to
pre-figure ragtime music.

The unifying theme of this CD is syncopation, the significant characteristic of Ragtime. Ragtime
came to public notice in the 1890s in America and, within months, Europe, too, fell under its spell.
There were none of today's mass media methods of communicating music yet it spread like
wildfire. As shown by Vic Gammon and his friends with the tunes in this collection, syncopation
had existed in traditional tunes since at least the eighteenth century which begs the question
were Scots playing ragtime years before Scott Joplin had his first piece published?
Dr Vic Gammon recently retired from being Senior Lecturer in Folk and Traditional Music, but
continues to be a guest member of staff at the International Centre for Music Studies at the
Newcastle University. He is also a singer, plays concertina, melodeon, tenor banjo and mandolin
and has recorded extensively. His 'friends' include Sandra Kerr ("Bagpuss'), noted fiddle player
Stewart Hardy, Desi Wilkinson from the Irish band 'Cran' and BBC Folk Award nominee, Dan
Walsh.

The legendary American Folk singer's career had been seriously knocked off course by the
McCarthy witch-hunts into Unamerican Activities in the USA affecting artists believed to be
communists. At one stage Seeger was facing a ten year prison sentence, but he managed to
visit the UK in 1958.
The concert was recorded and issued by the Folklore label which emanated out of the Dobell's
record shop on Charing Cross road in West London. In 1964 he was back again and at one concert,
at Manchester's Free Trade Hall, he was recorded again.
Both concerts on this set are typical Seeger material of that time. He talks about his friends
Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie and champions new songwriters like Tom Paxton and Malvina
Reynolds. The concerts also give a wonderful insight to how Seeger worked an audience and had
them eating out of his hand. His ability to engage the audience is an object lesson for young
performers. The Folklore LPs had limited circulation and the Manchester concert has never been
heard before. The booklet comes with an informative essay about Pete Seeger by Joe Stead.

Norwegian bassist Mats Eilertsen has been a strong and supportive presence on a dozen
ECM sessions to date. With Rubicon he steps forward to present his own music, with an
international cast.
The album features compositions originally written in response to a commission from the
Vossajazz Festival. All About Jazz reviewed the premiere performance: “Rubicon proved to
be a very dynamic work. Eilertsen ensured that each of the instrumentalists took their
share of the spotlight, brought together combinations of players that emphasized tonal
variation, and created ensemble sections bursting with life.”
After fine-tuning the material on tour, Mats brought his septet to Oslo’s Rainbow Studio,
where Manfred Eicher produced this definitive version of Rubicon in May 2015.

The colours of The Magical Forest glow in this remarkable recording which
brings together the improvisers of Sinikka Langeland’s ‘Starflowers’ quintet with
the singers of the Trio Medieval.
Langeland, singer-harpist and verse-maker of Finnskogen in Eastern Norway, here looks at
of regional traces and fragments of ideas about axis mundi, the world tree.
“I have transformed these fragments and some parallel stories into songs that are
encircled by instrumental passages and improvisations by the musicians. Mircea Eliade
comments on axis mundi that, ‘every Microcosm, every inhabited region, has a Centre;
that is to say, a place that is sacred above all.’”
The Magical Forest was recorded at Oslo’s Rainbow Studio in February 2015, and
produced by Manfred Eicher.

Natural is the latest collaboration between musical travellers and kindred spirits Nicola Conte
and Stefania Dipierro, the culmination of a relationship rooted in a shared belief in the

The Italian duo is set to take 2016 by storm with a sensual, sumptuous and highly accomplished
record, firmly anchored in the traditions of Brazilian bossa nova, samba and jazz.
Stefania and Nicola first came together as members of the seminal 90s musical collective Fez,
with Nicola leading the group. This period, one full of inspiration and discovery, laid the seeds for
Natural. Though Stefania lent her enviable vocal talents to many bands over the years and Nicola
went on to an illustrious production career, outside of a handful of tracks from Nicola's album Jet
Sounds, it was not until now that the stars aligned again, allowing these two mercurial talents to
merge their musical sensibilities once again to access the deep spirituality that is at the core of
their approach to sound. Stefania's ongoing musical journey has ensured that her connection to,
and understanding of jazz runs deep, as she resoundingly demonstrates throughout Natural. With
Nicola once again in the production seat, the album serves as the defining showcase for her
inimitable vocal talents.
Alongside original compositions from Nicola and others, Natural also tantalisingly promises some
inspired re-interpretations of classic Brazilian and jazz pieces: Trio Tenura's exemplary bossa
groove A Gira and Steve Kuhn's beautiful The Meaning of Love are among the tracks respectfully
imbued with an updated resonance. The scintillating blend of jazz and bossa alongside a

Kristian has become well known for his rhythmically punchy yet clean and soothing tone.
However, on this album he explores his interest for breaking up the guitar's pure sound, revealing
a teenage passion for rock and fusion, which becomes apparent in the compositions themselves.
“Islington Twilight”, “Everyman” and “When He Goes Out To Play” all have a dark rocky edginess,
though there is still the Nordic beauty of Kristian's roots in his writing and playing. The title track
is an earthy, almost folk-inspired waltz that develops with both instinct and logic intertwined
while Nosda floats on an elegant groove with a spacious dreamy melody.
Kristian's recent collaboration with pianist Bruno Heinen on their interpretative project Postcards
To Bill Evans turned many heads in 2015 and acknowledged his great love and inspiration for the
late guitarist Jim Hall. Fable is a nod to this through its groovy swing and understated melody and
Cool It is based on Airegin, the famous composition of Sonny Rollins the sax legend with whom
Hall so famously worked with in the sixties.
Silent Storm is released on Jellymould Jazz, a record label dedicated to promoting exciting jazz
artists based in the UK. These include Stan Sulzmann/Nikki Iles, Sam Leak's Aquarium, Hannes
Riepler and Tim Thornton.

Norwegian trio led by bass master Arild Andersen. Also featuring pianist Helge Lien and
drummer Gard Nilssen (Bushman's Revenge). This live recording was made in April 2016 and
includes an interview with Andersen by JazzThing’s Götz Bühler.
Born in Norway on October 27 1945, Arild Andersen has been one of Europe’s leading bass
players since the early 70s. Andersen started out as a member of the Jan Garbarek Quartet (6773). The group also included Terje Rypdal and Jon Christensen. In the same period he played in
the local rhythm section in Oslo for visiting American musicians. He worked and recorded with
Don Cherry, George Russell and Sam Rivers during this years.
He recorded 21 albums in his own name for ECM. Bill Frisell, Ralph Towner, Nana Vasconcelos,
Paul Motian, Alphonze Mouzon, Kenny Wheeler and John Taylor are among the great musicians
that can be heard on these albums.

Original LP from 1979, dusted off and presented for new audience to enjoy. The Kit-Cat band was the
house band of the Kit-Cat night club in London that opened his doors in 1924. The ten-piece band
was assembled by Jack Hylton, Britain's best known bandleader at the time and was directed by of Al
Starita, a saxophonist from Boston.
Producer Chris Ellis recently rediscovered the Kit-Cat LP that he produced in 1979. On hearing it again
he felt that it was worthy of being dusted off and re-presented. Ellis has kept the original notes by the
late, great Brian Rust. The Kit-Cat programme, illustrated on the front of this cd, was given to Ellis by his
dear friend Margret, Duchess of Argyll.

Newly repressed after being unavailable for over 3 years.
ROB was an enigmatic recording artist from Ghana who cut two albums for the
legendary Essiebons label in 1977. This is the second and it has become prized amongst
collectors in recent years.
The title track from this LP was always one of the most popular on the first Soundway
release Ghana Soundz and over the years Soundway have been asked many times to reissue the LP in it’s entirety. A stranger, slower offering than his more dancefloor funkladen and Spartan first LP, this record sees ROB in similar territory but with the tempo
switched down and the introspection turned up.
ROB’s trademark horns dominate and are supplied by the Mag-2, an army band founded
by leader Amponsah Rockson, who named it after the army unit the band played for the
“magnificent” second battalion. In 1977, Rob traveled to the coastal town of Takoradi in
search of Mag-2, which had an entire section of its line-up dedicated to horns, with the
intension of laying out his proposal to them. Luckily for Rob, the band took him up on it.
With religious overtones and a broody, slightly off-key atmosphere at points it’s certainly
one of the stranger afro-funk records to come out of West Africa but with tracks like Loose
up Yourself and Make it Fast, Make it Slow he nails the funk for sure.

Californian bandleader takes to the stage with The U.N., you'll get an adrenalin-shot of
pure escapism. Happy Bastards is aptly titled. These twelve new songs are an industrialstrength blast of glass-half-full optimism, with the band's self-styled brand of party blues
jostling with funk, soul, rock and roots.
"I'm trying to bring a different interpretation of what people think the blues is," says Andy. "Not
all blues need to be sad and lonesome. I love acts like Wilson Pickett, Marvin Gaye, Buddy Guy,
The Band, Samantha Fish, Houndmouth - all these acts that really made the blues their own
style".
There have been great studio albums before - try 2014's acclaimed third release Half A Man - but
none have bottled the band's frantic live energy quite like Happy Bastards. "We got the record
produced by Rick Parker (Lord Huron, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Scott Weiland Band) and John
Avila from Oingo Boingo," says Andy. "Having those guys on your side was huge. They get that we
are a live band, so they set all of us up live and we basically all played together until we all got it
right. It was an amazing thing to make a record like how they made records in the '70s".
Co-written by the frontman, guitarist Shawn Eckels and Kenli Mattus, these all-original songs are
emotionally resonant and rip-it-up exciting, driven by the chemistry between the core U.N. lineup
of Ernie Chang (sax), Andee Avila (drums) and Supaman (bass). "I basically picked my favourite
musicians from around the world," explains Andy of the cosmopolitan vibe.

Tony Burrows, David Martin and Sue & Sunny formed ORIGINAL CAST in the mid 70’s who
released their epic "First Night" single to great critical acclaim.
All the group members were well known in their own right with Tony Burrows having sung lead
vocal on "Love Grows" Edison Lighthouse (1970 UK number 1), White Plains UK 1970 Top 10 hit
single "My Baby Loves Loving" and also as The Pipkins "Gimme Dat Ding" - UK 1970 number 6.
David Martin was a successful songwriter with his songs being recorded by The Carpenters, Barry
Manilow ("Can't Smile Without You"), Elvis Presley to David Essex. He also found time to form a
band with his song writing partners called Butterscotch who made UK Top 20 in 1970 with "Don't

Todd Carter's eclectic interests allowed him take another tangent or two. He traveled, he
taught. And he also made an album, 2013's Songs for a Traveler, that featured great songs from
our country's heartland, dating back to 1850 and moving up as far as 1950. Then, after
producing the artists Bernardo Palombo and French artist, Leopold, Carter immersed himself in
the songbooks of Country greats, Townes Van Zandt, Merle Haggard and Ray Price. And then
the boy knew it was time to put together Lead me to the Water.
This remarkable album is where Carter's various influences cohere into a consistent, kickass

Some of today’s bands play 60s garage rock. Only a handful play Merseybeat, and
even fewer are so-called ‘Shadows bands’. And then we have Perry Dear and the
Deerstalkers…
They operate within a timeframe that goes from April 1962 to circa December 1963,
when 6-string bass instrumentals had their heyday. Today this is an almost forgotten
genre, but for a little more than one year’s time this was a serious competitor to both
the Shadows-type bands and to Merseybeat, which really took off during 1963. The
genre’s characteristics is first and foremost that the solo instrument is a 6-string bass
(but not a baritone guitar) and that the musical arrangements, as well as the
instrumentation, are a bit more ‘advanced’ than with pure Shadows-type bands and
beat bands.
It’s therefore with pride that Jansen Plateproduksjon now are releasing three records
with this group. Its members' previous merits go from instrumental rock in groups like
Kåre & the Cavemen, Mobsmen and Burt Rocket, to more typical Merseybeat, or just
beat music, in Peter Berry & the Shake Set and The Indikation. But all five of them agree
that Perry Dear and the Deerstalkers’ music is some of the best they’ve produced so far.

Following the critically acclaimed release of 'Lost West End' in 2015, an album
highlighted in The Sunday Times as an "Essential New Release", Stage Door Records
continue the series with ‘Lost West End 2’. The album features a glittering ensemble
of West End vocalists including Hannah Waddingham, Michael Crawford, Colm
Wilkinson and Paul Jones.
Ranging from 1970 to 2008, all the musicals featured had relatively short London
residencies and although they weren't always met with critical praise, they nevertheless
contain interesting, memorable scores and performances that deserve to be heard.
The diverse selection of shows featured include the 1977 Cameron Mackintosh
produced musical revue 'After Shave', 'Fire Angel' a rock opera adaptation of
Shakespeare's 'The Merchant of Venice', 'Hair' composer Galt MacDermot's 'Isabel's A
Jezebel' and musical biographies of Sir Francis Drake ('Drake's Dream), Napoleon
Bonaparte ('Napoleon'), Winston Churchill ('Winnie') and James Dean ('Dean').
Although the shows didn't last, their music lives on and this collection affirms that the
musicals featured are well worth rediscovering.

Lombardi is a composer, pianist and visual artist of international stature thanks to his
extraordinary repertoire. For several years he has directed the festival Nuova Musica Italiana e
Nuova Musica Internazionale in Rome. Daniele Lombardi has taught piano at the Giuseppe
Verdi Conservatory in Milan.
Thirty-four plaques containing fragments of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy are dotted around
the historical centre of Florence. They were placed there at the beginning of the 1900s and were
intended as a reminder of those people and places that had left their mark on the city and its
history: a few lines from the boundless ocean of the poem floating adrift.
Divina.com was written as a mixed media piece to be sung by David Moss and comprises
ensemble, live electronics and video. It was premiered on 5 July 2004 in front of Michelangelo’s
David at Florence’s Galleria dell’Accademia. The current audio edition is the live recording of that
event.
Divina.com comprises thirty-six episodes, one for each epigraph and a further two, which refer to
Michelangelo, who had written some of Dante’s verses next to the sketches in two of his
drawings. The various excerpts are in syntactical order linked to the unfolding of the composition.

York Höller was born in Leverkusen and studied from 1963–70 in Cologne with Bernd Alois
Zimmermann, Herbert Eimert, and Alfons Kontarsky, among others. His participation in Pierre
Boulez’s analysis seminars at the 1965 Darmstadt Summer Courses motivated him to explore
serial music.
After temporary employment at the Bonn Opera House, he worked in 1971/72 in the West
German Radio’s Studio for Electronic Music, whose artistic director he was from 1990 to 2000.
Höller has received numerous awards, and many works were written as commissions from
prominent ensembles.
The works on this recording span many years of his compositions and are expertly performed by
the Minguet Quartett accompanied by Markus Bellheim on piano on some of the works.

René Wohlhauser is an internationally active and creative composer and interpreter: In 2013,
the label NEOS began its CD series ‘Wohlhauser Edition’.
Wohlhauser (composition, piano, baritone, conductor) was born in 1954 and grew up in Brienz
(Switzerland). Experiences as a rock and jazz musician, accompanist and improviser have
accompanied and continue to accompany his principal activity as a composer of contemporary art
music (including chamber, orchestral and stage works). He received his training at the Basel
Academy of Music, studying with Robert Suter, Jacques Wildberger and Thomas Kessler, also
attending composition courses with Kazimierz Serocki, Mauricio Kagel, Herbert Brün and Heinz
Holliger.
Duo Simolka–Wohlhauser, from Basel, specializes in the interpretation of contempo-rary vocal
music and carries out annual tours of Switzerland and various major European cities (e.g. Basel,

When the first concert of the series founded by the composer Karl Amadeus Hartmann (later
designated as musica viva) took place at Munich's Prince Regent's Theatre on 7 October 1945, it
marked the birth of an important new cultural event in post-war Germany.
Up to the present day, this oldest concert series for New Music still brings together the world's
most important artists - conductors and interpreters alike - in the field of new and the newest
music, also continuing to set new standards for the interpretation of new classical music with the
outstanding Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
The SACD presented here is a good example of this: Ligeti's Lontano - a classic! Murail's Piano
Concerto completed in 2012 - interpreted by Pierre-Laurent Aimard - and Benjamin's Palimpsests
of 2002. All three works conducted by George Benjamin himself - one can't do any better than
that!
