Multi-platinum-selling pop-punk icons, Good Charlotte are set to release their sixth
studio album "Youth Authority" on Friday, July 15th. The album is preceded by first
single "40oz Dream" which features an accompanying comic-book style video by artist
Josh Madden, which premiered on RollingStone.com. The song received its Worldwide
first play on Zane Lowe's "Beats 1" show on Apple music.
Formed in the mid-90s, Good Charlotte have five albums and two collaborations under
their belt. The band was integral in establishing a global critical mass for the pop-punk
genre. The group's 2000 self-titled debut laid the foundation with the singles "Little
Things" and "Festival Song".

Kscope re-issue debut album 'We Just Did What Happened And No-One Came' from UK
based, Mercury Prize Nominated experimental art rockers Sweet Billy Pilgrim on CD and
LP. The CD version will be presented in a digipack with 4 page colour booklet and the LP
version on 180g black vinyl.
2015 saw the UK's unsung heroes of experimental art rock Sweet Billy Pilgrim, join the
Kscope roster and release their label debut & fourth album 'Motorcade Amnesiacs' to
critical media acclaim.
'Motorcade Amnesiacs' followed on from their critically acclaimed album 'Crown and
Treaty', which was awarded a coveted five stars by Mojo and featured as Album Of The
Week in The Sunday Times and its Mercury Music Prize-nominated predecessor 'Twice
Born Men' released on David Sylvian's Samadhi Sound label.
It was their 2005 debut album 'We Just Did What Happened and No One Came' that
brought Sweet Billy Pilgrim to media's attention, by being awarded four stars by Mojo
magazine and with The Sunday Times stating it was "a rather special debut" & making the
track "Stars Spill Out of Cups" one of their songs of the year.
As far as underground heroes go, few are more critically acclaimed, yet hidden from the
mainstream eye, than Sweet Billy Pilgrim. Loved by their fans and revered by the kind of
tastemakers whose opinions adorn adverts and posters on a regular basis, the four-piece
have always sat firmly but unwittingly on the very fringes of commercial success. Over an
almost decade-long career their star has glimmered quite literally from a shed in
Aylesbury, the birthplace of their debut album with the prescient title 'We Just Did What
Happened And No-One Came'.
It is with the debut that Kscope begins a re-release campaign for Sweet Billy Pilgrim - the
2016 version has been remastered by Sweet Billy Pilgrim's Tim Elsenburg, has new reimagined cover artwork and also features sleeve notes written by Elsenburg.

‘Falling Deeper', released in 2011 on Kscope was the fully orchestral album
from Anathema. This 2016 CD version will be presented in a digipak with a
4 page colour booklet.
'Falling Deeper' continued where the acclaimed 2008 album 'Hindsight' left off. The album
featured new arrangements of songs and haunting melodies from the band's earliest days
as pioneers of heavy music.
It was an album which excited old and new Anathema fans equally. The band took a fresh
musical and lyrical approach, transforming songs such as 'Crestfallen', 'Kingdom', 'Sunset
Of Age' and 'Everwake', which features the incredible voice of Anneke van Giersbergen.
Produced by Daniel Cavanagh and was recorded and mixed by Andrea Wright at the
legendary Parr St Studios, Liverpool (where the likes of Elbow, Coldplay and Echo and the
Bunnymen also recorded albums). With orchestral arrangements from Dave Stewart who
worked so successfully with Anathema on 2010's 'We're Here Because We're Here' which
was awarded Classic Rock's Prog Album of the Year as well as a host of other accolades.
Anathema have spent the vast majority of their career making music that defies
description. Formed in the mid 90s, they have risen to become one of the UK's most
cherished and critically acclaimed rock bands. The band are currently creating the follow
up to 2014's worldwide acclaimed studio album 'Distant Satellites' and companion concert
film 'A Sort Of Homecoming'.

Nedelle Torrisi's last breakup was bad – "not throwing-clothes- out-of- a-window bad",
she laughs now, but gruelling enough to leave her feeling blue and alone in Los Angeles.
"I was frustrated at the thought of starting over again, because it also dissolved the band
we were in [Californian pop duo Cryptacize.] The silver lining was that I didn't have to
negotiate any musical decisions anymore."
A few months later, the Sufjan Stevens and Ariel Pink collaborator found herself with a
batch of "unhinged, romantic, boy-crazy songs" that seeped romance from beneath every
airy stroke of keyboard, lush 90s-R&B- throwback vocal and crisp drum machine clap. The
resulting album, Advice From Paradise, now re-released on Tin Angel Records, finds hope –
revelling in the uncertainty, excitement and butterfly-flutter nerves of pulling yourself up
from the ground and beginning again.
The daughter of a priest-turned- jazz drummer father and ex-nun turned pianist mum,
Torrisi grew up in California steeped in music. Music was "a given, not a choice" in her
house, she recalls fondly – "I chose the violin and my brother chose the clarinet, and we
both studied the instruments into our twenties."
That devotion pays off on Advice From Paradise, a record with whip-smart musicality to
match its infectious heartbreak. Can't Wait sees wailing twin guitars fade to a slow jam
saunter with shades of Toni Braxton, singing about longing for someone in unrelenting
rain. Double Horizon is a Beach House-ish harpsichord pop dream that Noisey called
"sunshine-filled, poppy and blissful." Don't Play Dumb meanwhile is a tale of romantic
game-playing set to gorgeous MIDI calypso synths and accompanied by a video that saw
Nedelle cause trouble in a Target store – she and the clip's director, Travis Peterson, were
actually kicked out of the supermarket twice while trying to film.
Featuring contributions from Julia Holter and Dev Hynes, the album was recorded in two
weeks with Haunted Graffiti member and former housemate Kenny Gilmore, with whom
Nedelle "slept at the studio and worked all day until we became cross-eyed." Then,
disaster struck. "So, the album was missing in Russia for four months," says Nedelle,
incredibly. "The story is crazy, involving Russian friends, a nice taxi company, and a lot of
luck, but we got it back!" It's a good thing they did – moving and warm, Advice From
Paradise is a sprawling pop paradise of its own, full of such insight into the trials and
tribulations of the dating game, it came as no surprise to fans three years ago when Torrisi
launched her own love advice column, (and now a video series, too) on
advicefromparadise.com.

Flamingods are set to return with 'Majesty', the band's third album and debut
release on Soundway Records. 'Majesty' is the follow up to the band's critically
acclaimed 2014 second album 'Hyperborea'.

With this new album the five-piece have taken their sound in a new direction with a rich and
multi-layered album brimming with diverse influences that reflect their multi-cultural

'Majesty' was written and arranged with a conceptual narrative, cohesive both musically and
lyrically, following the story of protagonist Yuka on his journey of enlightenment. The record is
split in two, morning/light/good (tracks 1-5) and evening/dark/evil (tracks 6-10) that unravels
track-by-track as the record plays out.

Godfather of Glam, Marc Bolan. Featuring live versions of T. Rex’s greatest hits, recorded at

Having come to the end of the psychedelic path, The End decided on a change of musical
direction and a change of name, arising from the ashes as Tucky Buzzard in 1970 and retaining
the line-up of guitarist Terry Taylor, organist Nicky Graham, drummer Paul Francis, bassist Dave
Brown, and vocalist Jimmy Henderson.
The first album, recorded with Madrid Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Waldo De Los Rios,
contained some last vestiges of the band’s previous existence. But the second album, produced
by old associate Bill Wyman with Glyn Johns at Olympic Studios set out the band’s template of
bluesy rock, a leading genre at the dawn of the 70s. Mick Taylor makes a guest appearance.
For the fourth and fifth albums, the band was signed to Deep Purple’s own Purple Records. Bill
Wyman continued in the producer’s chair, but the departing Nicky Graham was replaced with a
second guitarist.
The booklet features photos from the collection of Terry Taylor, Bill Wyman’s right hand man in
the Rhythm Kings for the last 25 years, and extensive annotation by Alan Robinson.

crew Roll Deep, MC Flowdan. Carving his own path with his debut on Tru Thoughts, the

Out of the attics of the insane comes one of the most overlooked rap classics of its era, full of
bizarre boasts, ice-cold and meteor-hard beats, and the best bad examples. You couldn't say no
even if you wanted to.
If The Analog Brothers didn't exist, the weirdest scientists couldn't have invented them. Or
perhaps they never existed. Maybe it's possible this was all a demonic 31st century hallucination
cooked up by Kool Keith and cyborg alien pimps peddling flesh and white fluff acid. But how else
to explain the ultra-rare, ultra-magnetic artefact left behind: 'Pimp to Eat'. Originally dropping
from the skies in 2000, it is being re-released by Mello Music Group.
There are few clear things amidst the craziness. The centrepiece of the record is Pimp Rex (AKA
Rex Roland), the legendary Angeleno hustler, who did production for Body Count and chorus on
Ice-T's 'I'm Your Pusher'. He enlists his longtime collaborator Ice Oscillator (Ice –T), Keith Korg
(Kool Keith), Marc Moog (Marc Live) and Black Silver (Silver Synth).
All we really know comes from the abstractions assaulting our eardrums. Rex Roland's tribute to
the old analog sound, eerie synthesiser and pimp-slapping 808 drum machines. Ice-T and Kool
Keith trade bars like a rap Scully and Mulder.

New release by David Corley following the highly acclaimed debut "Available Light"
album. David endured a not-so-idyllic childhood on a horse farm in the town of Lafayette
in Indiana despite loving, close knit family relations with his grandma Annabelle, mother
Sarah, sister Annie and their two dogs "Moose" and "Ox".
When he was nineteen, David had a series of ecstatic visionary and mystical experiences.
After leaving the University of Georgia at the age of 20, he travelled across the country
delivering trucks, and began to read and write obsessively. By the time he went back to
University of Georgia, he started to develop his voice as a songwriter, often breaking in to
the Fine Arts Building to play his wild, original music on a grand piano in the middle of the
night.
His subsequent jaunts ultimately drove him to live off the land for a few years in a remote
cabin on a mountain in Georgia. If his heart hadn't exploded at the age of 40, David
reckons he would still be there... but chose to recover from his surgery in his hometown of
Lafayette, Indiana.
At the age of 53, Corley releases his debut album, Available Light, produced by Canadian
multi- instrumentalist Hugh Christopher Brown. Then things go very fast, and within a few
months after release David tours Italy, Ireland, UK and the Netherlands with BJ Baartmans
and his band Wild Connection.
The collaberation works so well that promoters, punters and press alike all rave about the
energetic and powerful performances. And also David, producer Hugh Christopher Brown,
and the band record new tracks on off days.
But then, after an impressive set at the Take Root Festival in Groningen, David announces
the encore and hits the stage floor struck by a massive heart attack. After intensive
treatment at the University Medical Center, Groningen and a long and restful recuperation
at home, David is now "in better shape than ever before" and together with Cristopher
Brown he finished the tracks he recorded in Studio Wild Verband alongside a bunch of
new songs.
Here presented as Lights Out, David's very personal expression of life after death!

vinyl for this series features his selections from the last three albums from the nine.
'The Last Guitar' happened after his trek to the Himalayas with the Love Hope Strength
Foundation. Searching for something? yes , but writing songs on the way and playing with words,
the resulting album felt like a last hurrah. 'Riven ' on the other hand was a far more epic affair and
'Nix' was a much more simplistic naked affair recorded over 10 days. 'Fresh and simple' as Nick
says.
Son of the legendary UK singer-songwriter Roy Harper, Nick was born in London and raised in
Wiltshire. Having played the guitar from the age of 10 and surrounded by the likes of Keith Moon,
Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and Dave Gilmour as he grew up, it was no surprise when Nick made
his recording debut on his father's Whatever Happened to Jugula? in 1985.
To call Nick a superlative singer/songwriter could put his highly lauded guitar talent in the shade,
and to call him a guitarist's guitarist might slight his distinctive, soulful voice and passionate
songs. Not forgetting the wild ride that is one of his live shows - from personal introspection to
biting political satire via a charmingly caustic wit that would make Groucho Marx proud. He often
segues from his own compositions to well-loved covers he makes his own - he takes on Presley,
Zappa, Jeff Buckley, Led Zeppelin, Monty Python and Public Enemy (yes, on an acoustic guitar).
He also has the alarming ability to break guitar strings almost by sheer force of will… and then

Fish Out of Water are a young electric folk band from the South Coast of England. A new
generation of folk musicians, the band follow in the vein of bands such as Fairport Convention,

Five members, aged 20-23, deliver a fresh and energetic re-imagining of traditional folk music,
blending traditional and electric instruments with rock dynamics and elements of electronica. This

The majority of the album was recorded live by Red Square Analog in the Drawing Room of
Highcliffe Castle, one of the most significant remaining examples of Gothic Victorian architecture.

Seven albums in and there's still no predicting what New Celeste will conjure next. You could
quite easily be forgiven if you follow the inevitable Celtic rock label that's so often hung round
their neck by the unthinking or the even more confused, generic folk rock. All of which hint at
but could never define the band. New album A Perfect Sky is an impeccable addition to a line
of carefully crafted and considered releases.
With a steadfast frontline of founder Iain Fergus on vocals and guitar, lead guitarist Steve Reid,
fiddler Gavin Marwick, bass player Jerry Soffe with drummer Max Saidi, the range of inspiration
and influence is as wide as the horizon to horizon landscapes of their Scottish homeland. There's
even room for reunions, former associates Graeme Duffin (Wet, Wet, Wet) and Rod Dorothy
(Barbara Thompson) add deft touches on guitar and violin respectively.
Brought to life in studios from London to Skye via Oxford, Glasgow and Canada, then impeccably
mixed by Bob Prowse the core intentions strategically pieced together to create an acoustic
centred, electrically driven collection which is intrinsically rooted. A Perfect Sky superbly displays
the creative credentials of New Celeste, which with the opening Such A Lovely Day, bounces along
agreeable acoustic pop in every second. Seven Seas is a flamenco drenched ode to lost love,
whereas Love & Freedom displays the band's love of traditional themes with a typically clipped
Fergus vocal and a lilting hook line that both historically and stylistically speaks of no other place
than Caledonia.
Instrumentally New Celeste exhibit equal flair and understanding Petite Quimperoise has classical
inclinations with a jazz undercurrent, The Sunshower is a rolling chase between fiddle and
acoustic guitar, Jig Celeste a freewheeling, whirling dervish leads handily into Sorry a vox
drenched, Beatlesque construction in which twin guitars duel and twist around each other over a
jumble of ponderable romantic questions.

Three days after the death of his father, Memphis (and Muscle Shoals and Miami) music legend
Jim Dickinson, Luther Dickinson opened the doors to the family’s Zebra Ranch studio in
Independence, Mississippi and recorded Onward and Upward, an album of gospel songs and
hymns over the course of a few hours.
Luther, one third of the North Mississippi All-Stars and past member The Black Crowes, was
joined by an ad hoc group dubbed “The Sons of Mudboy” (an homage to his late father’s
influential rock band Mudboy and the Neutrons) who were all close to Dickinson the elder and
wished to address his loss in a musical way. The Sons of Mudboy include two veterans of the
original Mudboy: the late Sid Selvidge (guitar, vocals) and Jimmy Crosthwait (washboard, vocals).
Also on the session were Jimbo Mathus (guitar, mandolin, banjo, vocals) formerly of the Squirrel
Nut Zippers and of the South Memphis String Band, Steve Selvidge (guitar, dobro, vocals) and
Paul Taylor (washtub bass) as well as vocalist Shannon McNally.
Luther and company duplicated the sound of mid-Century era reel-to-reel filed recordings, using
only two microphones plugged directly into a two-track ½ inch tape recorder. No mixing after the
fact. The late John Fry of the world famous Ardent Studios, Memphis and the legendary Larry Nix
mastered the tracks directly from the two track to the lacquer masters. Most of the songs were
nailed in just one take with just a few exceptions and those were completed in no more than
three takes. “That’s just how we do it,“ Luther muses.

The late, great producer, raconteur, pianist, session man, artist and sage Jim Dickinson once
called Jimbo Mathus “the singing voice of Huck Finn.” Outside the South, Jimbo is likely best
known as the ringleader of the hyper-ragtime outfit Squirrel Nut Zippers, or as the catalyst for
Buddy Guy's breakthrough Sweet Tea in 2001 and Guy's Grammy-winning Blues Singer album.
The idea behind the album’s title germinated from Jimbo’s interest in regional folklore and art
forms. “I got the (Alan) Lomax book [The Land Where The Blues Began] and found myself going
where he went and those same places, the same churches are still there and I was finding these
weird country people who are backwoods bodhisattvas – oracles, rural sages who are so wise and
of the past projecting an image of both peace and rebellion.
“Confederate Buddha” is the first album I’ve written and recorded with a band in mind,” he
notes, having previously based his recordings around songs rather than players and says the
result has a “southern rock feel to it”. Jimbo’s core band is augmented by guests Forest Parker,
Billy Earhart, Luther Dickinson, Cody Dickinson, Paul Taylor, Paul Morelli, Steve Selvidge,
Lightnin' Malcolm and Brian Ledford along with Jennifer Pierce Mathus, Gin Gin Carlton and
Rosamond Posey, a/k/a The White Angels.
Jimbo describes his sound as “...a true Southern amalgam of blues, white country, soul and rockn-roll. “

South Memphis String Band consist of Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars
and the Black Crowes, Grammy-winner Alvin Youngblood Hart, and Jimbo Mathus of the

When the guys first got together it certainly wasn't out of commercial consideration. This
troika of roots-imbued musical pros coalesced through a shared vision and consuming
passion for the music of their forebears, most notably the Mississippi Sheiks, Memphis Jug
Band, Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers and other practitioners of pre-blues era roots sounds.
They've been called a "regional roots music supergroup" but it's more like three good friends
just putting it down in a very traditional way. Mathus explained, "Luther, Youngblood Hart
and myself have been musical co-conspirators for over a decade. It is only fitting that we
should come together with acoustic instruments and perform Mississippi music."
The South Memphis String Band is currently featured on the PBS show
Sessions”airing through the Spring and Summer of 2016.

The newest addition to ECM’s popular Old and New Masters Series is a box set reprising
the four albums made by Peter Erskine’s American-British-Swedish trio with John Taylor
and Palle Danielsson between 1992 and 1997. These are ‘You Never Know’, ‘As It Is’,
‘Time Being’ and ‘Juni’.
If its core concept – a piano trio led by a drummer – was unorthodox, the group was
nonetheless influential, and the recordings provide an excellent environment for
appreciating the distinctive writing and playing of the late John Taylor. The British pianist
was the Erskine Trio’s primary composer, with the drummer-leader and bassist Danielsson
also contributing pieces and the repertoire topped up with tunes by Vince Mendoza and
Kenny Wheeler as well as Cole Porter, Peter Warlock, William Walton and others.
Of his trio mates Erskine says, “We drew out our most explorative and interesting playing
from each other. Without trying to be, we were a truly unique group. I've heard nothing
like it before or since.”

Reaching into the heart of improvised music has become second nature to
British tenor saxophonist Tori Freestone and perennial colleagues Dave Manington
(double bass) and Tim Giles (drums), which is again demonstrated on their second
recording for Whirlwind, ‘El Barranco’.
Following their warmly-received 2014 release ‘In the Chop House’ and subsequent live
appearances, the trio have relished the opportunity to reconvene in the studio to record this
collection of intuitive explorations (often first takes) of predominantly original compositions,
including a pair of London Jazz Festival commissions.
The challenge of the wide-open chordless format is enthusiastically embraced by this trio,
offering an improvisational prospect which constantly evolves, thanks to their innate ability to
share ideas and spontaneously flex in new directions. Tori Freestone's characteristically voluble
tenor delivery is a key factor in this artistic process: a continuous channel of flowing, tumbling
lines arriving from a seemingly limitless, spring-like source; and the quicksilver responses and
diversions of both Manington and Giles are so genuinely realised. All of this combines in creating
delightful group unpredictability, via a mutual, carefully crafted musical vocabulary, which happily
hovers on the periphery of delineated structure.

10 CD box set featuring fifteen original albums plus bonus several dozen bonus songs from the years 195662 by the country star Jim Reeves. It includes romantic hits in the Nashville sound, from “Adios Amigo” to
“Memories Are Made of This”.
His first single, “Mexican Joe” made it to number one of the Country Charts in 1953, and so he came to the
attention of the record company RCA. There followed a long series of hits featuring his velvety baritone voice
such as “According To My Heart” and “He’ll Have To Go”. In 1967 he was posthumously awarded the highest
honour that country music can give, by being admitted to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Scott recorded the songs on 'The Couchville Sessions' fifteen years ago and is only
now releasing them not because they're something inferior that he cast aside. On the
contrary, he's releasing this album because the songs were too good to remain silent.

He also held off on releasing the album until he could get a few extra touches he always
wanted on these songs - a Guy Clark guest spot here, triple fiddles there, a Peter
Rowan vocal here. "These songs have really stood the test of time," he says. "They still
move me".

Twenty years ago William S. Burroughs was asked to record an audio version of his
favourite parts of Naked Lunch. Hal Willner and James Grauerholz produced several
sessions and recruited a team of world class musicians to help.
Famed for their Naked City involvement Bill Frisell and Wayne Horowitz contributed
their genius as well as Eyvind Kang just to name a few. The recordings were then
abandoned and collecting dust on a musty shelf as forgotten as a piece of rancid
ectoplasm on a peepshow floor.
In 2015 Hal Willner decided to re-open this unfinished masterpiece and asked help from
King Khan [a musician that he and Lou Reed admired and became fast friends with after
two fiery performances by The King Khan & BBQ Show at Lou and Laurie's request in the
Sydney Opera House]. Hal sent Khan all of the recordings and asked him to add his gris
gris to this extremely perverted gumbo... and history was made and the scum began to
rise.

Recorded live in Adelaide in 2015, this album consists of Gavin Bryars’ settings of Shakespeare
sonnets with singers John Potter and Peyee Chen and guest artist Gavin Friday as narrator,
accompanied by the Gavin Bryars Ensemble.
‘Nothing Like the Sun’ began life as a commission from Opera North and the Royal Shakespeare
Company in 2007. At the time Bryars had already produced four books of madrigals, chiefly of
Petrarch. He says: “Shakespeare’s sonnets, like Petrarch's, are full of wonderful technical subtlety
and although the form of the Shakespeare sonnet, with its three quatrains and a couplet, is
different from Petrarch’s, this enabled me to arrive at a shape for the musical setting.”
“In selecting the works to set, I preferred to focus on those that are more philosophical, choosing
sonnets that contrast the relative permanence of art against the impermanence of human life,
that focus on ideas of memory, on the passage of time, and which, when dealing with love, do so
in a more abstract way. I narrowed this down to eight sonnets: and each sonnet is set twice – first
spoken within a musical accompaniment and then sung. These more abstract sonnets, reflecting
as they do on concepts of impermanence and mortality, are inevitably pervaded with melancholy,
a quintessentially Elizabethan quality.”
It is being released in Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary year when there is a great deal of focus on
this event.

Hildegard von Bingen has the magical ability to reach out and speak to us across the centuries.
In an age when most of the medieval art which has survived has done so anonymously,
Hildegard seems to foreshadow modern notions of a composer. An avant-garde visionary of her
day, the depth and range of her music lend themselves to modern re-imaginings.
Hugh Collins Rice’s Sequentiae Hildegardenses were written over a period of 12 years in
collaboration with the ensemble Mediva. Hugh Collins Rice, a composer who has often been
drawn to the ideas and techniques of early music, was inspired by Mediva’s medieval
instruments, using a musical language which remains authentic and expressive in a 21st-century
context, whilst also illuminating the 12th-century music of Hildegard. His music references the
serene world of Hildegard's own compositions, but also reflects the darker strands in her writings.
Hugh Collins Rice was fascinated by the sonorities of Mediva’s instruments, which provide a
palette of timbres unavailable on modern instruments. As he puts it, the “earthy expressiveness
of shawms is a sound completely different from any of its modern successors. The small medieval
harp has a very subtle range of colour, and the medieval fiddle has a naturally soft veiled tone.
Together with recorders, a blended ensemble is achievable which sounds fresh and new.”
Mediva’s credo is to bring passion and life to music of the past. Featuring an international line-up
of virtuoso performers educated at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Mediva has been a
spontaneous, imaginative and successful group for over ten years, performing a range of music
from the 12th to 15th centuries. Mediva’s concerts are full of energy, passion and joie de vivre,
and the group has appeared in many of the major music festivals in the UK and on the continent.

significant piano works composed and performed by the composer

Foster's music represents the great romantic keyboard tradition at its most emotionally charged,

It is refreshing to hear new music in an idiom that is familiar yet with a musical language that is
the composer's own created with a pure intent. This is what the music of Grant Foster offers there is nothing ironic in Foster’s music - he is a romantic composer living in a post-modern age.

confectionary masquerading as music.

Before the phonographic era, the most common way to diffuse music was the mechanical
pianos (pianolas) and the fairground organs.
Works that enjoyed a short career (like Offenbach’s Diva) were diffused by this method and these
cards or cylinders constitute not just the only recordings that we possess of them today but are
also the the oldest and the nearest to Offenbach.
Malibran has issued a double CD dedicated to this “early “ Offenbach with 20 excerpts of works
including 4 titles that have never been issued on CD:
Le Papillon(1860), La Diva (1869), Le Roi Carotte (1872), la Marocaine (1879).
Of course, there are no words in the opera or operetta recordings here, but these reproductions
have the great advantage of allowing us to discover the music of Offenbach as it was diffused
