Conference news
One of the most influential personalities in the sports business industry
will take to the Main Stage during the
SPONSORS Sports Media Summit: Jürgen Lenz. He’s the man who founded
the UEFA Champions League together
with the UEFA President and General
Secretary of the time (Lennart Johansson and Gerhard Aigner), and business
partner Klaus Hempel. Lenz recognised
early on that major sporting events are
the ideal platform for international
brands. Thus the former Adidas Marketing Director developed the marketing concept for the UEFA Champions
League with his TEAM partner, Klaus
Hempel. This pioneering model for
creation of a brand and the optimal
added value for a sporting competition
is copied time and time again by other
sporting disciplines to this very day.

SPORTS MEDIA INNOVATION AWARD
EVEN MORE EXCLUSIVE
Sport has always been a driver of new
technologies, yet never before has
it been as versatile and varied as it is
today. While the industry players are
continually facing new challenges, they
are at the same time being provided
with countless opportunities through
the new world of media. It is before this
backdrop that SPONSORS is to confer
the “Sports Media Innovation Award”
for what is now the second time. Entrepreneurs, clubs, associations, developers, and all those active in the sports
media industry with an innovative idea
are invited to submit an application for
the award – regardless of whether it is
The proportion of clubs, leagues, associations and sponsors in attendance at
the event is to be increased so as to
further enhance the conference’s position as a driving force within the industry. In cooperation with its partners,
SPONSORS will hand-pick 100 decisionmakers from these fields to invite to the
SPONSORS Sports Media Summit. 100
tickets have already been allocated to
the partners and speakers, meaning that
the decision-maker quota will exceed
the 69 per cent achieved in the previous
year. Restriction to a total of 300 participants means that just 100 tickets are
freely available for sale.
their own project or that of a third party.
As a driving force within the industry, SPONSORS wishes to give aspiring industry players the opportunity
to showcase their innovations to leading sports media representatives. Not
only a project’s degree of innovation is
decisive, but also its potential to provide new impetus. The three projects
deemed the best in the online voting will
be showcased at the SPONSORS Sports
Media Summit. The winner of the Innovation Award will be announced and
honoured in a ceremony on the Main
Stage; the winning project will also be
featured in the SPONSORS magazine.
ALL FOUR PREMIUM PARTNERSHIPS EXTENDED
The organiser couldn’t be paid a better compliment: all four Premium Partners have
extended their involvement in the SPONSORS Sports Media Summit. After the Premium partnership packages were all sold out in 2011 for the first time, the companies’
decision to extend their commitment shows that the event is based on long-standing
partnerships of trust, and enjoys an excellent reputation among leading companies within the industry. Alone Deutsche Telekom, law firm CMS Hasche Sigle and
sports media enterprise Kicker online/Fussball.de boast a 14-year presence at the
SPONSORS Sports Media Summit. Last year, SPONSORS welcomed sports marketing agency The Sportsman to this exclusive circle. The Munich-based agency owns
sports rights trader The Sportsman, web TV platform Laola1.tv and online marketing
agency Gramercy Global Media, and is thus the perfect complement to the three
long-standing partners.
