SIGNWAVE U SER MANUAL
SIGNWAVE FUNDAMENTALS
SignWave is a digital door card solution consisting of three distinct components:
 SignWave Door Cards - a system of touchscreen tablets located at room entrances displaying
room and event information
 SignWave Service - a central hub distributing appropriate event information to each door card
 SignWave Dashboard - a graphical user interface used to configure and monitor the
SignWave Service and door cards devices
A simplified diagram of a SignWave Server and three SignWave Door Cards is depicted below.
The SignWave Service uses the local area network to collect and distribute event information to
each door card at the appropriate time.
The SignWave Dashboard is a graphical user interface providing methods to monitor and configure
door cards. The SignWave Dashboard is part of a larger program, called the Traffic Manager Dashboard.
The Traffic Manager Dashboard also provides methods to adjust SignWave Service settings, manage Traffic
Manager Dashboard users, and more.

NAVIGATING THE SIGNWAVE SERVER
The device on which the SignWave Service is installed on is referred to as the SignWave Server.
The SignWave Server desktop offers shortcuts to the Traffic Manager Server, Traffic Manager Dashboard,
and FileZilla. Each of these programs is used to manage a different aspect of the SignWave Service.
FileZilla is merely a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program used to transfer images from the
SignWave Server to the door cards. When event information is updating but door cards are not receiving
new images, it is most likely because FileZilla is not running. The system tray of the SignWave Server
should always contain a FileZilla icon, indicating the program is open and running.
The Traffic Manager Server displays the IP address of the SignWave Server. The Traffic Manager
Server offers additional functions when MediaZone Pro Players are configured to communicate with the
Traffic Manager.
SignWave is designed to work with MediaZone Pro to create digital reader boards. Reader boards
display all events for a location on one digital sign. Please refer to the MediaZone Event Display
Documentation and MediaZone Pro Editor User Manual for information pertaining to managing and
configuring MediaZone Pro Players as digital reader boards.
The Traffic Manager Dashboard monitors and configures door cards, and can be used to configure
various SignWave Service settings as well.
By default, the SignWave Service displays current and upcoming events only. Past events may be
shown by altering configurations in the SignWave Service program files. Please contact the Keywest
Technology Support department for assistance with implementing this feature.

SIGNWAVE U SER MANUAL
TRAFFIC MANAGER SERVER
The SignWave Service must be installed before any door cards can be configured. This is because
the IP address of the SignWave Server is used to configure each door card. The server’s IP address can be
acquired in the Traffic Manager Server Network Structure tab.
T O L OCATE THE S IGN W AVE S ERVER IP A DDRESS :
1. Double-click on the Traffic Manager Server icon on the SignWave Server desktop.
2. Select the Network Structure tab in the Traffic Manager Server.
3. Select the Main Server icon in the tree-based hierarchy area; the IP address of the Main Server
is the IP address of the SignWave Server.
The Main Server will be the only item shown in this area, unless MediaZone Pro Players are
configured to communicate with the Traffic Manager.
The Activity Logs, File Manager, EAS, and Email Settings tabs contain information and functions
used for MediaZone Pro Players only.
The Admin tab can be used to manage user access to the Traffic Manager Dashboard. However,
the Traffic Manager Dashboard offers a User Accounts page, and this page is the preferred method to
create and manage users. After the initial setup process, the Traffic Manager Server has little to offer
SignWave users.

TRAFFIC MANAGER DASHBOARD
The Traffic Manager Dashboard is used to monitor and configure door cards after they are
installed, and to configure several SignWave Service settings. The Traffic Manager Dashboard opens in a
web browser, and the login credentials correspond to that of a user set up in Traffic Manager Dashboard or
the Traffic Manager Server.
Note: One user is created by default during the installation process; this user’s credentials are
admin and admin.
Each page in the Traffic Manager Dashboard has a similar layout, with a page title and currently
logged in user displaying on the line running across each page. Buttons for the page reside just below the
line, and links to each page in the Traffic Manager Dashboard are displayed in the top right of all pages.

SIGNWAVE DASHBOARD
After logging in, the Traffic Manager Dashboard opens to the SignWave Dashboard page. This
page displays thumbnail screen captures and information about each of the connected door cards.
Wikipedia defines a screen capture as “an image file which shows the content of a computer's screen at the
moment of [the] shot.” This page will automatically refresh every two minutes to display the most updated
door card information and screen captures.
The first item of information is the SignWave ID number; this is used by the system to track each
door card that is connected. The Description is the name of the room as it was setup in the event
management software. IP is the network address, or IP address, of each door card. Check-in is the last
date and time the door card “checked-in” with the SignWave Server.
The Status of each player is shown as text, as well as by the indicator light in the bottom right
corner of each door card cell. Green indicates the door card status is good, and it has recently checked into
the SignWave Server. Red indicates the door card status is in error, or more specifically, that it has not
checked into the server recently. When the door card is in error, the text related to that door card also
turns red. A door card may still be showing the correct information on the physical display screen, even if it
is not checking in at that time.
In the image above, the door card associated with the Gallery is in error status because the door
card has not checked-in in almost two hours. (This was concluded by comparing the last Check-in time with
the current time.)
Hovering over the buttons on this page generates a pop-up window listing selections. The currently
chosen selection is displayed in bold. Clicking on an item in the Thumbnails menu changes the size of the
door card thumbnail. Door cards may be shown or hidden based on their status, and sorted according to
their division, name, or check-in time.

DEVICE CONFIGURATION PAGE
Clicking on the thumbnail image of a door card in the SignWave Dashboard opens the SignWave
Configuration page for that door card.
The layout of event information on the door card, referred to as the template, is selected on this
page. This page offers many other settings, such as clock format, text color, background image, and more.
When settings in this page are modified, the page must be saved or any changes will be discarded!
DEVICE CONFIGURATION BUTTONS
The Save button saves the door card device configuration settings, or all settings on this page.
Save Globally saves all of the current device configurations to all door cards, including the Room
Name text. Save Globally can be extremely helpful when numerous changes need to be made to all door
cards. For example, it may be easier to Save Globally and correct the room name text for each door card
than it is to change multiple settings on each door card.
The Delete button deletes a door card from the SignWave Server and erases the current
configuration of the Keywest Door Card program. The door card can be reconfigured by repeating the
steps in the Assigning a Door Card to a Room section on page 23.
Cancel returns to the SignWave Dashboard page without saving any changes made in the
SignWave Configuration page.

TEXT
The first area, labeled Text, can be used to modify what text is shown in the upper left corner of the
door card. By default, the Room ID populates the Room Name field. This field may be edited in the
scenario that a different name is desired than the name assigned in the event management software, or to
change the room name to accommodate certain groups of guests.
SETTINGS
The Settings area contains many important fields for configuring the door card devices.
Aspect Ratio is the ratio of width versus the height of the door card; the standard door cards
shipped from Keywest Technology have an Aspect Ratio of 16:9.
CLOCK
The Clock field offers four different time formats, with options to include the current date or to
remove the clock from displaying on the door card screen entirely.

FONT AND BACKGROUND COLOR
Font Color determines the text color of all text displayed on a door card: room name, clock, and
event information. Selecting a color field generates a pop-up color grid window. Selecting a color box
closes the window and the hexadecimal color code for the new color is displayed in the Font Color field. A
color may also be selected by typing a hexadecimal color code in the Font Color field.
The Background Color field functions in the same manner, but this field defines the background
color of the door card. Changing the background color will have no effect while the background image is
enabled. Please see the Images section on page 13 for more information about disabling the background
image.
PREVIEW DWELL
Preview Dwell is the amount time prior to an event’s onset that the event information is displayed
on the door card. Events only preview when there is not information displaying about a current event. For
example, when the Preview Dwell is set to five minutes and the door card is not currently displaying
information about an event, the event information will preview on the door card five minutes before it’s
start.
An event preview will not be displayed when event are scheduled back-to-back.

TEMPLATE
The Template defines the layout of a door card, or where and how events are displayed on the door
card screen. SignWave offers eight templates, but template six and seven display information from fields
only available when the SignWave Service is linked to Delphi EMS.
Each template image demonstrates the event information layout. Title corresponds to the title of
the event entered when it is scheduled in event management software, and Name refers to the Group
Name.

SIGNWAVE U SER MANUAL
TEMPLATE VARIATIONS
Template one and eight display the event information in a list form. An arrow indicates which event
is currently taking place. The only difference between these two templates is the order of the Title and
Name, as is demonstrated in the template thumbnails.
The remaining six templates show the current event only. An arrow to the right of the screen
indicates another event follows the currently displayed event. An arrow to the left indicates another event
preceded the current one. Dragging a finger across the door card in a horizontal motion displays the
proceeding and following event information. Please see the section called Dragging Functions on page 19
for more information about this subject.
Template three and five offer interactive buttons once the door card touchscreen is activated. The
functions of these buttons are covered in the Touch Screen Functions beginning on page 19.
Template two and three display both the event title and event name, with template two placing the
title over the name and template three placing the name over the title. Template four and five display the
event name only. These two templates are identical apart from template five’s interactive buttons.

IMAGES
Three images can be used to customize door card appearances: they are the Logo, Background, and
Default images. The Logo image displays in the upper right corner of a door card. The Background image
fills a door card screen and the Default image displays over a large portion of a door card when there is no
event or event preview information. The picture below demonstrates the size and placement of the each
image on the door card screen.
To load a new image on the door card, the Enabled checkbox must be checked. Click on the Browse
button to open a file explorer window. Select the desired image and click Open. Once the image is
selected, it must be loaded by clicking the Upload button. Browse selects the path to an image file, and
Upload brings the image file into the Traffic Manager Dashboard so it can be sent to a door card. The
preview area displays an image after it has been uploaded. Saving the page saves the image as part of the
door card’s configuration file.
The next time the door card checks in with the SignWave Server, the image will be downloaded and
begin displaying on the door card screen.

USER ACCOUNTS
The User Accounts page manages user access to the Traffic Manager Dashboard. Requiring user
authentication to login to the Traffic Manager Dashboard provides secure access to door card settings.
User accounts can be created or deleted, as well as modified, in the User Accounts page.
Clicking New opens a blank User Account page. Enter the appropriate information in the fields and
click Save to create a new Traffic Manager Dashboard user. Clicking the Reset button on the User Account
page reveals an area where the password may be set.
An existing user can be edited by checking the box in front of the user’s name and clicking on Edit,
or by clicking anywhere in the blue area associated with each particular user. This feature can be used to
reset a lost user password or to modify access restriction of existing users.
The System Layout checkboxes pertain to MediaZone Pro Players only. To grant a user access to
the User Accounts page, enable the Administrator checkbox. The EAS (Emergency Alert System) functions
pertain to MediaZone Pro Players as well. Without checking any boxes in the settings area, users will have
access to the SignWave Settings, SignWave Calendar, SignWave Dashboard, and Dashboard pages.

PLAYERS’ DASHBOARD
The Dashboard page displays information and a thumbnail screen capture of each connected
MediaZone Pro Player. If only SignWave Door Card devices are being utilized, then this area will be empty.
MediaZone Pro Players must be configured to communicate through the Traffic Manager before they will
be displayed in the Dashboard page. For more information about the Players’ Dashboard, please refer to
the Traffic Manager Dashboard User Manual.
SIGNWAVE CALENDAR
The SignWave Calendar is used to schedule events when the SignWave Basic Service is installed.
This page has little to offer when a SignWave Service linked with event management software is installed.

SIGNWAVE SETTINGS
SignWave Settings holds several server configurations to aid in management of SignWave.
ROOMS
The first area in SignWave Settings page is the Rooms area. This area displays all rooms configured
in the SignWave Service, regardless of if a door card has been assigned to the room.
The Subrooms feature was added for scenarios such as when one room is partitioned, or when two
rooms will share one door card. Please contact the Keywest Technology Support department for more
information about Subrooms functionality.
SIGNWAVE SERVICE FUNCTIONS
The next area, SignWave Service, hosts controls to Start, Stop, and Restart the SignWave Service.
The SignWave Service may also be stopped and restarted using Windows Task Manager. The Username
and Password server credentials required to execute these commands in the SignWave Service area are
the username and password used to login to Windows when the SignWave Server device boots up. The
Domain field requires the ‘Full computer name’ of the SignWave Server. This information can be found in
the System window of the Windows Control Panel.
The last area, File Options, can be used to download the Traffic Manager Dashboard Log File. The
Import and Export buttons load a new schedule when the SignWave Basic Service is installed. Import and
Export buttons in this area offer no additional functionality when the SignWave Service is tied to an event
management software.

TOUCH SCREEN FUNCTIONS
The View by Day, View by Week, and View by Hour buttons display event information in different
layouts. View by Week offers information about the room events scheduled in the upcoming days.
Additional touch screen functions include sending an automated email to Keywest Technology for support,
and scheduling an impromptu event at the door card instead of through the event management software.
DRAGGING FUNCTIONS
Upcoming events scheduled in the room can be seen by dragging a finger across the screen in a
horizontal motion from right to left. The arrows at the vertical edges of the door card indicate events
proceeding and following the current event. If there are no other events, dragging will have little effect.
Repeating the right to left motion displays the next event, while moving in the opposite direction displays
the previous event.
The image below shows a door card in movement from one event’s information to the next.
When events are displayed in list form, dragging a finger across the screen in a vertical motion
moves the list of events up and down on the door card screen.

SIGNWAVE U SER MANUAL
VIEW BUTTONS
Template three and template five offer interactive buttons on the door card. These buttons appear
only after the door card screen is touched.
View by Hour displays one event on the door card screen; this button will have no effect if a
template between two and seven is selected, because View by Hour is the layout of those templates. View
by Day displays event information in a list, the same as template one and template eight’s layout. View by
Day will have no effect if template one or eight is selected.
Activating the View by Week button will change the event information layout of the current day to
a list view, and the standard buttons are replaced with buttons corresponding to each day of the week.
Activating a weekday button displays a list of the events for the upcoming days.
These buttons correspond to a calendar week running Sunday through Saturday. Once a weekday
has past, the next week’s events are not considered future events until the start of that week. For example,
on Mondays, six of the seven weekday buttons will display upcoming event information. By Thursday, only
the Friday and Saturday buttons will display upcoming event information. Events scheduled for Sunday
through Wednesday are now considered the past, and will not be displayed when the button is activated.

REPORT BUTTON
The SignWave Service PIN number is requested after activating the Report an Issue button.
Successful entry of the PIN number reveals a statement across the door card, “A member of the helpdesk
will be sent. Confirm or cancel the request.” Buttons to confirm or cancel are displayed at the bottom left
of the screen.
When confirm is selected, an email is sent stating help has been requested at that door card
location. The email address that receives this notification was assigned during the installation process. This
email is very simple, merely stating the time and location of the door card the issue was reported from.

INSTANT EVENT
Instant Event allows for an event to be added through the door card instead of the through the
event management software calendar. This feature also requires a PIN number for access. After the PIN is
entered, a configuration page appears. This event information will behave as a regularly scheduled event,
using the template currently selected for this door card and previewing the event for the dwell time
specified in the device configurations.
The Purpose of the event will be the first row of text displayed in a large font, similar to where the
Title is placed in the majority of templates. The words “Instant Event” display below the event’s purpose in
a smaller font, where the Name is shown in template number two.

ASSIGNING A DOOR CARD TO A ROOM
This section is a duplication of the SignWave Door Card Installation Guide. It is included in this
manual for easy accessibility after SignWave has been installed. However, door cards will retain their
settings after rebooting, losing network connectivity, and the majority of other issues the system may
encounter.
Once the IP address of the SignWave Server has been acquired, door cards can be configured to
communicate with the SignWave Service. The first screen of the door card setup wizard is the Welcome
page, providing a quick overview of the SignWave software capabilities.
Activate the Next button at the bottom right of the touchscreen to go to the Server Setup page.
If the Welcome page of the setup wizard is not open on the tablet, activate the Keywest Door Card
program by touching the icon in the applications menu.

SERVER SETUP
The IP address of the SignWave Server must be entered in the Server field. Default settings prepopulate the fields in the door card setup to ease the configuration process. Replace the default IP address
of “192.168.1.80” with the actual IP address of the SignWave Server. If the IP address of the server was not
provided, please see the Traffic Manager Server section on page 5 for more information about locating the
IP address.
The Username and Password fields correspond to the credentials of a default Traffic Manager
Dashboard user created during installation: admin and admin. Since these credentials are created
automatically during the installation process, these fields do not typically need modified. However, any
username and password corresponding to a Traffic Manager Dashboard user can be entered.

LOCATION SETUP
Touching Next at the bottom right moves to the next step in the wizard, the Location Setup. This
location associates each door card with the appropriate room. The Property ID required for this step was
defined during the SignWave Service installation. If the Property ID was not provided, please contact
Keywest Technical Support for assistance in locating the Property ID. After entering the Property ID, touch
Done to close the touch keyboard and then touch the Refresh button on the Location Setup screen. This
loads all rooms configured in the SignWave Service.
Tap the drop down arrow to select a room for this door card. A list of rooms displays in a pop-up
window, including rooms that have been previously assigned to a door card. This is so a room with multiple
doorways may utilize multiple door cards. Tap on a room name to select the Room ID for the door card;
the green dot indicates which room is currently selected.
Note: Correct information must be entered in the Server Setup fields and the Property ID before
the door card is able to retrieve a list of available rooms.
Exact steps to door card Location Setup are detailed on the following page.
